Am I the only one who loses the ability to buy clothes once the sun has come out ??

I am shite at buying summer clothes. I have a HUGE mental block on it.

Went out today wearing a grey spotty t'shirt and jeans with white ballet pumps and I felt like a right frump.

Winter clothes I can do, summer clothes no, I don't know what to buy, what suits me or what to avoid.

HELP

Ohh Principles have red linene trousers, I quite fancy red for a change. They look a bit baggy around the bum though, which is baxd for me, as i have no bum.

Fat Face have a nice pair of white linen trousers on my 'to buy' list - they are quite heavy, thick linen so not see through. Not tried them on yet though.

Just ordered these too

Ah yes, I work for meself so can wear what the hell I like - mwaahahahahaha!

CrackerOfNuts · 06/05/2008 19:00

Ok, will forget the red.

I like that top though Cod, I have some t'shirt tops in a similar style.

How about these? Are they VERY wrong?

Gobbledigook · 06/05/2008 19:02

The thing is to buy 'structured' or 'tailored' tops I think - not baggy or square shapeless t-shirts. Gawd, there were some horrors at school pick up today.

CrackerOfNuts · 06/05/2008 19:03

Not keen on those hundred.

Nooooooo 100x!

Gobbledigook · 06/05/2008 19:03

ahundredtimes - I'm personally not sure about the heel but like them otherwise - there are loads of shoes about in that sort of style with nicer heels or even flat. If you go to a dept store like Selfridges you'll find loads - Carvela and Nine West have some lovely ones.

SilentTerror · 06/05/2008 19:04

I didn't used to be good in summer, but then started wearing a line skirts(White Stuff/Fat Face/Boden/Great Plains) with plain vests or scoop neck tees(M & S,Tesco, matalan,TopShop) when the sun is shining, and tunicy tops(Boden,White Stff Fat Face again) over linen trousers in white, cream, grey, brown (M&S,New Look,Principles) when it isn't.
I also love dresses again Great Plains and White Stuff are good, and have a selection of short cardigans to go over them.
Legs wise, I use a gradual tanner(Nutrishimmer is good) and wear either closed in wedges from Marks,Per Una,New Look,Clarks or sandal wedges from Next or Marks when hot.

ahundredtimes · 06/05/2008 19:05

No, I CAN'T have flat.

The whole idea is to let me get my legs out. I need uplift, flattering shoes. For everyday wear. I have decided this will revolutionize my DIRE summer wardrobe.

[expectant]

Gobbledigook · 06/05/2008 19:05

I want these sooo much but just bought the Boden pair

Gobbledigook · 06/05/2008 19:06

ahundred - did you not like the Boden wedges I linked to?

ahundredtimes · 06/05/2008 19:06

Wow. Silent Terror has got this all sewn up. [impressed]

ahundredtimes · 06/05/2008 19:07

No, I didn't see. Hang on am going to find.

CrackerOfNuts · 06/05/2008 19:07

Those shoes are to die for Gobble.

Sounds impressive when written down, but I still have days when I am at a loss!
Have rooted out all my real summery stuff today and piled it with the things I have bought this year. There is far too much.I go overboard, that is my trouble!
Shoes are the big problem in summer I think.

Gobbledigook · 06/05/2008 19:12

I love them nutty - I can't justify them right now though

ahundredtimes · 06/05/2008 19:13

Actually those Boden ones and TB ones are better than the LK ones aren't they? Hmm.

But all day long? this is my problem. I'm not really the tottering type, but in the summer I need to totter or look dreadful with no legs.

Slouchy · 06/05/2008 19:22

Aah, but what about women with stupidly large (think Joran pre-recent reduction) tits? Summer dressing is hard for the likes of me cos of the buggers on my chest.

(am size 12 with size 16 hoo-hars.)

Any fresh ideas, oh style maveens? Or should I resort to tried and tested (read dull) methods of yesteryear?

ahundredtimes · 06/05/2008 19:22

This has been very inspirational.

I am going to try and go shopping on Friday, with this thread in mind. I have a party to go to on Saturday - an outdoor summer evening party. I need something for it. oooh can i have a capsule summer wardrobe do you think? Perhaps I can.

janeite · 06/05/2008 19:27

Slouchy - I'm a 12 with 34Es - I find that A-line skirts and a square necked, just touching hip length top, or linen trousers and a wrap top look best on me.
