I couldn't see a new thread so I'm starting one!

I don't think I have favourite, or that you can say I like him nad this means I am likely to enjoy a lot of his creations. Even taking Jerome Epinette - I adore Bal D'Afrique but I find VB Suite 302 absolutely awful. They must create based on the vision of their client unless they only create for their own brand.

I was surprised to know that Jo Malone is not perfumer at all :)

IDontHateRainbows · 13/12/2024 09:10

Bal D'afrique for me from the Byredo grand discovery kit. Its pleasant enough but I don't get all the hype! Find Comfort by Rare Beauty is a very similar vibe and I think by the same perfumer, I actually prefer it so will stick with that.

AprilLady · 13/12/2024 09:30

SOTD is Hermes Ambre Narguile again. Lovely, cosy scent for a WFH day.

MiaN · 13/12/2024 09:56

They are very similar, I agree! I don't think it's the season for it but in the same time - it is so personal, we don't need to understand each other's liking.

To me, when I wear it, I literally think 'damn I smell great.' vs lets say Athalia, being something that I like to smell so much but not sure if others will enjoy on me as much on me it's so incensey to my nose. Bal D'Afrique gives me confidence that I smell clean, fresh without being too sharp, there is some interest in it - slight holiday vibe, in the same time some softness from the florals/woody notes. It came out in 2009, vs find comfort in 2023 so it still popular to recreate 14 years later. If I have to save one perfume in my collection, this is the one for me but I completely understand that some may find it boring and too light.

There is new Rare Beauty Body and Hair spray that sounds good, looking forward trying it.

IDontHateRainbows · 13/12/2024 11:22

I have gone back to my beloved Mojave Ghost (original) today - I did the trick a PP suggested and bought something small off byredo to get the 2 samples (Mg original and MG absolu) , then returned the item - Byredo are perfectly fine with you keeping the samples so no moral issue there! I definitely prefer it to the abolu so think i made the right decision to go for the original as my xmas pressie from DH - plus I got it for £100 so a lot cheaper.

As for the dupe 'inspired by mojave' oil I bought off ebay thinking it would provide a base for the edp to improve longevity - it smelled nothing like it - not sure what I was expecting for £8.50. So that's going back.

I'm over run with samples now so god knows when I am going to test them all!

hughiedoesntfight · 13/12/2024 14:31

Bibbi ghost of Tom was ok. The dry down was very similar to dear polly. But slightly more floral. Definitely prefer Dear Polly.

has lasted since about 5am though. Can still smell it. About to get a shower for the company Christmas party.

Cant decide on what perfume vibe to go for, for it. Burberry goddess is always a crowd pleaser by might go with something with more depth. Diorama maybe. Or something more bright like sunset hour or ingenious ginger or Rouge trafalgar

Magpiecomplex · 13/12/2024 15:23

Guerlain Shalimar today. My 4160 Tuesdays January Joy Box arrived yesterday so I have to decide if I'm going to be good and keep it for January!

I only know two of the mentioned and I love Ingenious Ginger but I wonder if Sunset Hour will be more night out? I probably will go for sunset hour if I was choosing out of the two as it's sweet & warmer feel. Enjoy your night

Notsosecrethistory · 13/12/2024 17:08

@happytobemrsg I tried the real Halfeti today. I like it a lot, the dupe is pretty close based on my initial test, so that's interesting. How do they get away with duping it so blatantly!?

Also tried Vanilla Powder - at last! It was not the beast I had been warned about, but then I was very reserved with my spritz. I quite like it, but not an instant love.

TheLongRider · 14/12/2024 00:10

Ex Nihilo The Hedonist today. Nice but not full bottle worthy. I can still smell it 14 hours later. I smell like spicy pencil shavings right now.

Lurkingshark · 14/12/2024 02:45

Thank you for emerging @FiletMignon . I will go sniff in liberty next time. I’ve liked the DS &Durga I've come across.

4160 Tuesdays is on my long list (getting longer) as I am intrigued by the backstory- but so many offerings. A bit overwhelming and I’m unlikely to be in Hammersmith.

SOTD Sundazed.

Millymollymine · 14/12/2024 06:21

Sotd Tobacco Volute by L'Atelier Parfum from the liberty scent kit - not keen on first spray but once it dries I love it and love how long lasting it is

IDontHateRainbows · 14/12/2024 09:19

Laura mercier ambre vanille for me today

Mackemlass79 · 14/12/2024 09:23

I think I may have round my new favourite perfume (at min anyway) I know it's not new but it is to me and I absolutely love it killian rolling in love. Anyone else like this one? There are several of killian range I really like and I personally find them nicer than tom ford that everyone seems to have about

AprilLady · 14/12/2024 09:30

SOTD is EL Pleasures. Very nostalgic, takes me back to my mid 20s.

AprilLady · 14/12/2024 09:30

@Mackemlass79 I have tried many Tom Fords. Yet to find one that was a keeper for me.

Mackemlass79 · 14/12/2024 09:51

@AprilLady I actually really like lost cherry and santal blush but I personally just find the killian range better and I haven't yet found one I dont like I just find them softer and easier to wear

I really like love don’t be shy and rolling in love. I am going to try and get 10ml of both see if it’s something I would wear. I really like their apple brandy as well, but not sure I would actually wear it.

I went with diorama last night. Decision based on the fact that I have a travel atomiser with some in that I could put in my clutch purse in case it needed topping up. It’s didn’t of course so pointless anyway lol.

My daughter is back from uni today so I am sorting through all my samples I have done a wear test on and made a decision on so I can give them to her. And a few around the 10ml size that she can have that I won’t wear. I will let her try all the ones I do like as well. She will pretty much share my collection when she is home. Today is perfumer h rain cloud. I like it so far. Very light and smells like flowers and rain.

QueefofSheena · 14/12/2024 13:22

SOTD is MM Autumn Vibes from a discovery set. I’m definitely getting pencil shavings now it has settled down. The initial smell wasn’t nice and I almost washed it off. Not a keeper

I love Autumn Vibes but it's quite marmite according to reviews

MiaN · 14/12/2024 15:05

Pistachio Gelato Kayali for me today. I don't like it still

TheLongRider · 14/12/2024 19:51

I tried a spray of Gris Charnel today, fig, fig, fig and more fig. I don't really get the tea notes on my skin, they're there alright but my skin is holding onto the fig note for dear life. It reminds me of Roger & Gallet Fleur de Figuier.

IDontHateRainbows · 15/12/2024 09:35

Byredo Desert Dawn today, from the grand discovery kit
I do like this, but knowing Byredo it will probably have poor longevity.
It's very subtly spicy but with some warmth. Quite a light scent compared to, eg mumbai noise. Has the potential to go in my Byredo 'top 3' after mumbai and mojave

Magpiecomplex · 15/12/2024 10:48

I'm wearing Amouage Sunshine Man today, having found the sample at the bottom of the box. I love it, the orange brandy note is gorgeous, but it's also eye wateringly expensive so I shall just have to keep getting samples.

IDontHateRainbows · 15/12/2024 15:55

Veronique Gabai Noire de Mai today for me - from a liberty beauty edit.

Nice but nothing special
