Guerlain Champs Elysee for me today. Vintage bottle and an old favourite.

MiaN · 12/12/2024 09:33

I didn't enjoy that sample kit myself, but want to test few in warmer weather. The one I kind of liked vanilla nomad made me feel off in few hours.

Strange, as it's growing on me. Seem to like it a bit more now it's settled in! Ultimately I'm not sure sana jardin will be a brand i fall in love with, but it's fun to try new scents out.

Notsosecrethistory · 12/12/2024 13:42

Yeah, I quite like Vanilla Nomad. On me it's mostly Benzoin, which is that incense-y smell, with a little vanilla.

Today I am trying the Noted Aromas dupes for Halfeti and Angel's Share. I liked the sound of both of these, but haven't tried the original on the basis that if I fall in love with them I can't afford a bottle... 😂

So, trying a dupe for the first time. According to reviews the Halfeti one is v accurate, the Angel's Share less so, but still nice.
My own initial review is that the Halfeti-alike is v nice, but far more masculine than I was expecting. And Angel Share-alike is lovely, but has a little something in the dry down that reminds me of Baccarat Rouge. An almost medicinal something... I don't know if anyone else gets that?

I'm going to have to try the originals now, aren't I!

happytobemrsg · 12/12/2024 15:14

@Notsosecrethistory Halfeti is my favourite perfume. Let me know what you think of it when you try it!

SOTD Penhaligon’s Cairo. Really like this one & perfect for a gloomy winter day.

Tomorrow I have yoga at lunch so I won’t be spritzing anything. Then I’m heading out to my work Christmas party. I’m on mat leave so feeling quite anxious. Will be rocking Halfeti to give me that boost of confidence

fivebyfivebuffy · 12/12/2024 15:42

@MiaN what's the dedcool like and the vanilla skin?

OP posts:
MiaN · 12/12/2024 15:50

Some sweet vanillas smell like burned rubber to some people, me including. Bianco Latte is the biggest offender, the new Victoria Beckham too. This is not as much of a burned rubber as them, but still has it. It is as sweet if not more sweet then Sol De Janeiro 71 but less enjoyable to my nose as it's more straight forward very sweet vanilla and not much else to my nose. You need to love very sweet vanilla

Milk I didn't even open, I sold it. I had sample set and disliked the brand - but I can't remember if it came up as pencil shavings or not. It was incredibly light, maybe I am nose blind to the notes and very oily. I feel it should be applied on skin or it can stain clothes. Even the Xtramilk - it was so light and so unremarkable to my nose. I would say while the vanilla maybe safe blind if you are sweet vanilla girl, this one isn't as it does not give much.

MiaN · 12/12/2024 16:01

my comments are for the vanilla skin mist, not the perfume. For comprising, while Sol De Janeiro 71 is too sweet for me I really like it on others, and I don't get that same rubber hint from it.

Mackemlass79 · 12/12/2024 16:30

Just recieved a,small 3ml that I forgot I ordered of nest lychee rose and I really like it. I haven't yet tried it on my skin so no idea what it's like on or what the longevity is like but on initial smell I do like it. Has anyone else had this? What are your verdicts if u have?

CorneliaStreet · 12/12/2024 16:33

I love SDJ 71, smells like freshly baked nut cookies to me. I only wear it at bedtime, wouldn’t wear it out of the house.

I only just got the Phlur Vanilla Skin mist so still trying it out, but agree it is pretty much a straight up vanilla. I’m a but disappointed with it, was hoping for some woody notes to make it a bit more interesting.

I’m currently trying out Delina for the first time as it was in my advent calendar today. It reminds me a bit of Miller Harris Rose Silence. Delina is much stronger though, one spray a couple of hours ago and I can still smell it constantly. I’m not much for rose scents, so don’t think this will be a favourite for me.

I have few samples of it from Cult Beauty GWP and I am looking forward testing it properly in few months. It's really lovely, but spring vibes and I won't fully appreciate it this time of the year.

Howmanyroses · 12/12/2024 18:47

happytobemrsg · 11/12/2024 22:43

@mdinbc That sounds lovely

@Howmanyroses I’ve been really impressed with the longevity of the fragrances in their Trade Routes discovery set but they all have a similar vibe to Halfeti so might not be for you. Maybe check out their scent profiles and see if there are enough without oud

That's good to know, thank you :)

Killian Angel's Share today, I've firmed up my view that this is definitely not for me. It's too boozy and heavy for my liking. I find Zara's dupe more palatable somehow, especially considering the price difference!

happytobemrsg · 12/12/2024 18:56

@Howmanyroses What is Zara’s dupe called?

Howmanyroses · 12/12/2024 19:12

@Howmanyroses What is Zara’s dupe called?

It's Sun Desert at Sunset, the same perfumer Benoist Lapouza created both. It requires more sprays but longevity is very good I find when sprayed on a jumper. I can sometimes smell it the following day

QueefofSheena · 12/12/2024 20:15

@Mackemlass79 I really like Lychee Rose too, I discovered a small bottle in my stash last week.

SOTD is PDM Oriana. I wasn’t keen the first time I tested it but it’s definitely better now I’ve worn it properly. Good as I have a full size bottle!

happytobemrsg · 12/12/2024 20:18

Thanks @Howmanyroses I used to wear Zara’s Cashmere Rose which had good longevity

I also heard really good things about Zara Fashionably London perfume, but don't have a shop near me. Does anyone know anything about this perfume?

Lurkingshark · 13/12/2024 02:48

@Howmanyroses the sample sets on line are quite extensive. I found shop availability variable and confusing - so many scents similarly named.

on Dedcool, space nk has testers. I disliked them all and the space nk shop person, who likes fragrances, turned his nose up and told me to try diptyque papier. 😁

Lurkingshark · 13/12/2024 02:51

SOTD Mumbai noise from byredo. I think there is something in all the byredo top notes which I don’t like but the dry down is warm, spicy. A bit of a naff interpretation of Mumbai (my family is from there) but I’ll ignore the name and enjoy the scent. Branding around perfumes is fascinating though.

MiaN · 13/12/2024 04:10

Couldn't sleep last night and though day ahead with funeral in the middle of it. I am going to go for athalia, as I need it's yoga temple vibe with me today.

Long-time lurker on these threads popping her head up 🙋‍♀️

@Lurkingshark Try Radio Bombay by DS&Durga. My family is also from Mumbai and this scent triggered such nostalgia. I felt transported.
One half of the design duo is Indian (and may even be from Mumbai, though I could be wrong) and you can tell from the perfume that she knows Bombay’s heart

IDontHateRainbows · 13/12/2024 07:50

I'm a mumbai noise lover although I sprayed it so much at first I got nose blind!
I have tried Radio Bombay and for me the only similarity was in the names, I didn't rate it very different vibe .

My Dads partner is from India and spent a lot of time in Mumbai as a child, her mum lives there now. She said the same about Radio Mumbai. I enjoyed it, but haven’t done a skin test. I think Dad was going to get her it for Christmas.

I am working from home today and wear testing Ghost of Tom by Bibbi. Apparently one of the founders is married to the founder of Vilhelm. Which didn’t actually surprise me when I read that as this really reminded me of dear polly, until about an hour in. Now it’s like dear Polly with the tea toned down and a slightly more floral note. It’s pleasant but I think I prefer dear Polly.

Actually, just as I am writing this I realise the same perfumer worked on both. Would be interesting to try more of Jérôme Epinettes fragrances to see if they all have a similar profile.

Out of Ghost of Tom and Dear Polly I would definitely go with Dear Polly. I think the dry down was more interesting. But don’t think I would go for a full bottle of that. So far my favourite tea scent has been remember me.

MiaN · 13/12/2024 08:44

Jerome Epinette is interesting one. He did all creations of Victoria Beckham, nearly all Byredo, Rare Beauty Find comfort - and so many. I know from interviews himself likes citrus opening, soft floral and woody drydown but I guess for clients he creates based on what they are looking for. He has also done most of sol de janiero including the bum bum/62 scent - I would say he has most known perfumes out there right now.

He does things for Zara and I was so disappointed when he created a dupe for Pistachio Gelato for them. Why hire such a big name to create a dupe for someone else's fragrance? Lapouza is different case as he is duping his own work for cheaper, making it accessible to more people

Yes he has done some a lot that are popular. I have just been looking up the boy smells brand as I had one of their candles a while a few years ago and it was incredible. And he has worked with them as well. As well as a lot of Zara ones.

I am just scrolling through his list to see what else of his I have tried without knowing.

I have some across him quite a bit this morning. Usually it’s Francis kurkdjian and Quentin bisch in a lot of well known fragrances recently.

Though Cecile Zarokian is a personal favourite.

MiaN · 13/12/2024 09:06

I am not MFK fan, Quentin Bisch and Dominique Ropion both have fantastic creations
