I want to smell amazing

I'm off to a work conference soon - can anyone recommend me a perfume that will be strong and will make people think "ooh she smells amazing" I hardly ever get that comment. I want to make an impression and my work crush is going to be there

DKNY Be Delicious apple (the one in the green bottle)

Comedycook · 26/11/2024 13:51

Chanel Allure...eau de parfum rather than eau de toilette

booksshoescats · 26/11/2024 13:52

I recently fell in love with Acqua di Parma Luce di Rosa. With perfume you generally do get what you pay for, and it tends to last me a long time, so although a 100ml bottle is £250 (down to £200 in Liberty currently) if that's within your budget I'd say it's very well worth it to smell expensive for a couple of years!

Penhaligons Empressa or Halfeti

OhBuggerandArse · 26/11/2024 14:27

Oh please don't go around smelling strong. It gives me and many others a really awful headache and sets off allergies.

Friendofdennis · 26/11/2024 14:38

Calvin Klein Eternity Moment is beautiful

I never usually but will be on this day as a one off. I will know about 90% of the people there and there isn't anyone set off by perfume etc that I know of (quite a close knit team) but I'll try not reach 'overpowering' levels of smell at the same time.

Does it actually smell of apples or am I being thick?

OMG the very thought gives me hives. Good luck OP.

Haha of what? Just wearing perfume?

Perfume is such a subjective thing. Scents my mum loves make me feel ill, but she doesn't like mine either 🤷

Purpleavocado · 26/11/2024 14:51

Zara Fashionably London is amazing and good value.

FourForYouGlenCoco1 · 26/11/2024 14:56

I’ve received compliments from male friends (and random strange men) when wearing Viktor & Rolf Bon Bon or Flowerbomb

DecayingRelic · 26/11/2024 14:59

I love strong perfumes, I wear

Opium
Obsession
Aromatics Elixir
Shalimar
Youth Dew
Rive Gauche

to add:

Cinnabar
Pure Poison

Defiantlynot41 · 26/11/2024 15:00

Penhaligon Halfeti gets lots of compliments, as does Jo Malone English Oak& Hazelnut or Pomegranate Noir ( Oak is more unusual)

Clinique Aromatics Elixir is lovely but is definitely one of those to squirt a bit in the air and walk through, not applied directly unless it has got a lot weaker in recent years.

And I got lots of compliments by layering it with the English Oak, but you need a very light hand as they are both strong and distinctive fragrances

Opium is criminally potent
My English teacher at school was drenched in it.
We always knew where she had been because the scent would linger for ages

DecayingRelic · 26/11/2024 15:07

I am finding recently that Opium is not as strong or long lasting as in the 1980/90s/00s

I think a lot of companies have altered their formulations🙄

They are so strong! I hated most of them, I'm afraid.

OP, do you really want to wear something strong? I love perfume but don't think it's going to make the difference between him liking you or not.

FartingAgainstThunder · 26/11/2024 15:09

JPG2 has recently been brought back and is (sadly for me) not as strong as it once was but still draws compliments each time I wear it.

MessyNDepressy · 26/11/2024 15:10

I always get compliments when I wear Caroline Herrera Good Girl.

LaundryIsNotmyFriend · 26/11/2024 18:24

I would think you need a truly distinctive fragrance to get his attention. One that poeticises your presence. That means it should ideally be one he hasn’t come across before. For that I would read the “Obsessions” section of this writer’s blog. She discusses some of the most unusual perfumes in quite an esoteric but compulsive way: https://lifeinacoldclimate.com/category/obsessions/

I bought a sample box from Perfume Society earlier this year and loved trying all the different scents without the expense of full size bottles. The two that I loved the most were:

Molecule 01+ Black Tea (eye wateringly expensive so I haven’t bought a bottle, yet!)
Lancome Idole

butterfly0404 · 26/11/2024 19:11

I've returned to my 80's favourite Youth Dew, I love it and so do many people who compliment me on it. I don't overdo it though, just a small squirt :-)

It smells very refreshing and fruity. Lasts ages. I always get compliments when wearing it.
