I want to smell amazing

I'm off to a work conference soon - can anyone recommend me a perfume that will be strong and will make people think "ooh she smells amazing" I hardly ever get that comment. I want to make an impression and my work crush is going to be there

Oh please don't go around smelling strong. It gives me and many others a really awful headache and sets off allergies.

Me too! But only with some perfumes. I find it impossible to shop in places like department stores because they reek of perfume.
I've been told by. Neurologist that it's a thing - not just my imagination, and that it's like a migraine in that it gives me a headache and makes me weirdly nauseous.
I was in a London cab at the weekend, and got in straight after a woman who had been wearing something strong and instantly felt travel sick.

@bittertwisted Anything tuberose is 🤌🏼 Will check out that Armani one...

Runingoncaffeine · 27/11/2024 09:06

YSL - Libre Intense. Recently got a sample, and it smells incredible - I’ve purchased a bottle now. Perfect notes for this time of year.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 27/11/2024 09:20

Honestly don't. I love perfume and always wear it but deliberately wearing a quantity of perfume that is going to be instantly noticeable as you move around the room is just obnoxious.

Everyone likes and dislikes different perfumes. All the Chanels make me nauseous, Aromatics Elixir smells depressing to me, and many of the classic strong ones are going to remind men mostly of their mother and grandmother. Putting your hand on his arm, smiling at him, and acting like what he says is fascinating will have 100 times more impact. And wear a normal level of whatever perfume you enjoy, for yourself.

You are not a teenage boy with a can of Lynx.

I love strong perfume. I love meeting friends and as a new one walks in they all smell lovely. I always loved being out in bars and people walking past (both men and women) and getting a good waft, instantly makes me think people have made an effort. I put on loads. I also layer it. I put it on when I’m wet when I get out the shower and then put more on just as I leave.

Seal it with Vaseline !

This reminds me a bit of my husband, who thinks other people's farts are repellent and anti social, but that his shouldn't attract comment as they don't smell.

Grin mine too.

It's difficult to recommend a scent because they smell differently on different people. My gran wore Guerlain's L'Heure Bleu. It smells like Harpic on me. Similarly my mother used to wear First by Van Cleef & Arpels - I just get the chemicals. Chanel and Guerlain don't work for me. Dior and Gucci do. No idea why.

The best reason to wear a particular scent if for yourself and because you like it.

Pegs available for eau de husband. Givenchy Gentleman doesn't mask it.

QueenOfToast · 27/11/2024 10:37

I can't recommend a particular perfume, but I have heard that the best way to get compliments on smelling nice is to use everything in the same range. So matching body wash, body lotion and perfume should keep you smelling luscious. Could work out expensive though.

butterfly0404 · 27/11/2024 11:33

If you can track it down, Rose Gold by Italian brand Montegrappa, found several sealed boxes in a charity shop In the Cotswolds whilst on a weekend away, took a chance at 2.50 each and oh my giddy aunt it's divine. It's EDP too.

You'll thank me if you do :-)

I'm late to the party here but I often wear Liz Earle no 15. I get so many compliments on it, and its a really good price.

Liz Earle no 15 is very beautiful

Pigeon31 · 27/11/2024 13:10

Molecule 01 - it's not strong enough to knock anyone out but I get more compliments about that than just about any perfume I've ever worn for work.

MorrisZapp · 27/11/2024 17:20

Ok I take it all back about Clinique Aromatics. I have just treated myself to a sample box of Maison Margiela Replica scents and I've only tried one so far: Bubble Bath.

Omg it is divine. Clean, soapy, warm, sexy. And definitely not an elevator gagger.

It's clean sheets and lingerie. Do it (after all it is Black blimmin Friday!)

Bubble bath is lovely, reminds me of clean soap in a way

DKNY woman is the only scent I've been complimented on, both times by men

It’s impossible to be allergic to
perfume that someone else is wearing, isn’t it.

Can’t see how you’d get the concentration to trigger anything more than a throat tickle.

You obviously don't have these types of allergies. If I am sitting near someone who is wearing a perfume I'm allergic to, it triggers an asthma attack.

Illegally18 · 26/11/2024 22:15

Well, yes! Do you really not get it? It's uncomfortable for other people. Even if it's beautiful. You'll be remembered as the woman who stunk of perfume!

Who cares… Better to be remembered as the woman who smelled of perfume rather than the woman who stank of BO, halitosis, fags and vape.

JPG2 has recently been brought back and is (sadly for me) not as strong as it once was but still draws compliments each time I wear it.

They really aren;t as strong are they? What has changed? perfume in 1980s would last on clothes - even on skin after a bath. But these days you have to reapply every couple of hours. Which, if it's £200 a bottle, I just can't.
