What dress are you wearing for Christmas dinner?

I know there's are loads of threads on 'find me a dress for xyz' but I would love to hear what the ladies of S&B will be wearing for their Christmas dinner.

We walk to ours so for the last few years I've favoured trousers and a top and boots and wrap wool coat but I fancy a midi with long sleeves this year, and silk base layers because the hall is bloomin freezing . Just starting to look but id love to know what you've gone for.

Full styling details if you're willing; shoes, tights, jewellery, hairstyle?

I'd love a short sleeve cream sweater! Can you tell me which one you have? TIA

I haven’t actually bought it yet! Sorry - I’ve ear marked one from M&S (they have loads of knitwear and cashmere at reasonable prices in all colours and shortsleeved.

I’ve always got a house full of people, not one of them dress any different than any other day, a couple may wear Christmas jumpers though.

Good for you.

We prefer something a bit more celebratory.

the fact that this concept is sufficiently alien to you to come on a thread and attempt to belittle posters for having a bit of Christmas spirit suggests your Christmas is a rather dour affair. So yes, still sad for you.

Me too @Havalona can’t wait. Bathing suit for the first part of the day’s proceedings and then maybe a sundress or shorts. It’ll be my first Christmas home for around 25 years.

Snap! Not been in my home country for Christmas for 25 years.

I have just bought a dress from Amazon (clearance sale and under a tenner!)

Trying not to be smug, but sorry, I can't help it - I'm so happy and excited.....

Will be wearing a sundress, or shorts and T shirt. I will not be celebrating Christmas at anyone's house nor will I be in the UK. No dress code where I'm going! Bliss.

I am so envious! Enjoy. One year l will definitely go away for Christmas to sunny climes.

I love that dress @ThisMustBeMyDream and you look fabulous in it. I've seen it in store in the black and thought it looked good value, but the green is even nicer.

How do you find the fit of those jeggings @boygirlcatdog ? Particularly in terms of how stretchy they are and the size of the waist compared to hips/legs.

They are lovely. I have have quite a big bum/small waist and I struggle to pull them up for that reason. But once they're on they fit really well.

boygirlcatdog · 11/11/2024 12:27

They do have some stretch but not loads

🤣🤣

unless you’re in my house, how do you know what my day is like!!
Just because we don’t wear the same clothes as you, doesn’t mean we haven’t got no Christmas spirit!!

I actually think it’s you belittling people!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/11/2024 17:50

Oh fgs girls. Play nicely.

Everyone is entitled to wear what they want and, as far as I’m aware, we should be saving any bickering to about 4.30 pm when the cook is shattered, the kids have failed to be sufficiently grateful or angelic and great aunty Edna has been sick after too many cherry liqueur chocolates.

Inastatus · 11/11/2024 18:19

@BrendaSmall - you started the argument with your post littered with laughing emojis mocking people who like to make an effort and dress up for Christmas Day! Ok so you don’t dress any differently but I don’t get why you are bothering to comment on a Style and Beauty post about Christmas Day outfits if it’s not your thing unless it is to belittle others and to try and make out that your way of doing things is the right way. Just live and let live!

Marchintospring · 11/11/2024 18:26

@LaurieFairyCake no, no problems at all. They are actually a European company and normally buy from that site, no idea why I linked a US one.
And Wolf and Badger stock them but way more expensive :). Comes in nice packaging too.

Although I want to know where @TheDeepLemonHelper got her lovely dress too. So Chrismassy

I commented to answer the question, asking about Christmas Day outfits!!
To be honest, I know of no one IRL who does actually dress up in their own homes or any other home for dinner, unless they’re going out to eat in a restaurant!
Defiantly wouldn’t feel like getting dressed up after cooking a roast, especially with the heat from cooking!

@BrendaSmall you didn’t even answer the question though, you just came on to mock asking ‘do people really, actually dress up to eat a roast dinner?’ 🤣😅🤣😅😂
In contrast to your experience, I don’t know anyone IRL who doesn’t get a bit dressed up for Christmas Day. But you do you.

You were sneery and contemptuous and when called out doubled down on the faux surprise and threw in some emoji style ridicule.

Obviously some people dress up for Christmas, if that’s not for you this thread is probably not for you 🤷‍♀️

DancingNotDrowning · 11/11/2024 22:51

@TheDeepLemonHelper that is an incredible dress, so impressed you made it!

Marchintospring · 11/11/2024 22:54

@TheDeepLemonHelper Thats amazing! Looks very expensive. Good job.

@BrendaSmall Thats half the fun. Wearing a fabulous outfit whilst necking fizz and shoving things in the oven at 9am is what's different to normal roasts/ days off.

I spend most of the "bit between" in pyjamas because that's the relaxed bit. Then it's dress up for New Year if we're off out somewhere but mostly it's just big coats to do Auld Lang Syne round the village green.

Onemorepenny · 12/11/2024 16:27

A dark gold dress I bought from Gestuz years ago now if it still fits.... Thick black tights, wool black socks over for pottering round the house. Just need a thick black cardigan to complete the look. Probably from Arket or Cos.

I don’t know anyone who actually gets dressed up for Christmas dinner at home, only a few people who actually gets dressed up to eat at a pub or restaurant!

I was curious if people actually do get dressed up to eat dinner at home!

@BrendaSmall - well I think this thread has shown that plenty of people do. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t wear something nice/different whether they are staying in or going out 🤷‍♀️

I have recently bought a grey jumper and skirt from Tesco ! Very silver and sparky and will wear black Fitflop boots and use a Wallis black frilled, woolly, ‘wrap/shawl’ that I got for my 50th (I’m 64 now)…
I love Christmas time ❤️🥳🎄❤️🎅

I'm wearing this to a cocktail bar with friends the week before Christmas and assuming I don't spill anything awful down it I'll be wearing it on Christmas Day too
