What dress are you wearing for Christmas dinner?

I know there's are loads of threads on 'find me a dress for xyz' but I would love to hear what the ladies of S&B will be wearing for their Christmas dinner.

We walk to ours so for the last few years I've favoured trousers and a top and boots and wrap wool coat but I fancy a midi with long sleeves this year, and silk base layers because the hall is bloomin freezing . Just starting to look but id love to know what you've gone for.

Full styling details if you're willing; shoes, tights, jewellery, hairstyle?

So yes @Shakatak I will literally be wearing taffeta and slippers! Just call me Lady Mary…

I think people dressing up for a meal on Christmas Day is a bit naff

The Christmas grinch is here I see. 😏

Whether you want to go out full glam in a nice sparkly dress, or wear Christmas pjs it’s up to you. Whatever you feel like.

I'm pretty sure it is going to be this 20 quid green velvet short dress from Asda. Was pleased with it, nice and comfy! I wore it for a meal out this week for my 40th and put it to the stretch test. It passed!
I've also got a primark novelty Christmas dress if I decide to go full on cheesy! Who knows!

This does not look like Asda at all! Stunning.

@Hayley1256 loving the jacket and dress and shoes. The shoes look very Esska-esque.

I bought a sequin rainbow colour pencil skirt (Top Shop) from eBay, found it’s twin in the form of a long sleeved rainbow top but it’s so nice to have an excuse to break out the sequins and shimmer.

I also have flat diamanté buckle black shoes as well as silvery ones plus metallic trainers so a few options in case I want to be comfy.

BookishType · 09/11/2024 14:29

I’ve spent a few Christmasses in Australia. I’d far rather be in the UK, cold weather and all. It just doesn’t feel right to be somewhere hot (to me).

I haven’t decided what I’m wearing. I’ve lost loads of weight recently (thanks MJ) and I’m looking forward to wearing something fitted after about 4 years of big shapeless jumpers.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/11/2024 14:37

I’m thinking of sewing a brushed cotton tartan dress, so basically PJs in dress form.

Otherwise I’ll be in jeans and a sparkly jumper, I think.

Or I’ve got a black velvet midi dress which I’d wear with a cosy cardigan and slippers!

I think it's just that "dressing up" has become so unusual because clothes nowadays are so bloody boring and quite ugly IMO (athleisure etc). An LBD with flat boots on Christmas day is low key for me nowadays 😅

If you're going to troll Mumsnet probably best not to post about it on Twitter at the same time?

😂😂😂

Oh dear. How sad.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/11/2024 15:30

Surely being a bit naff is all part of the fun anyway?

BrendaSmall · 08/11/2024 21:21

Do people really actually get dressed up to eat a roast dinner? 🤣🤣
No different to every Sunday dinner 🤣

Oh that’s sad.

don’t you do anything special for Christmas?

no friends or family to gather with?

no celebration or anything extra treats?

Attelina · 09/11/2024 16:11

Oh dear! The troll is one of the grotty have nots who masks her jealousy by referring to people who lead more fortunate lives by calling them snobs.

You've now had a light shines on your inadequacy and I feel dreadfully sorry for you.

I’m wearing a pair of silk velvet wide legged cropped trousers from Poetry and a cashmere sweater from Brora. Suede boots and pearl jewellery. Will be travelling by car so a short wool coat.

Sounds too hot to me. Xmas day can be mild.

sad because I don’t wear anything different that I do any other day?
🤣
definitely not sad!

We have a roast, and yes, I’ve usually got a house full of people 🤣
I always get everyone a “ tree “ present, which is something small that goes on our tree and always saved for after dinner

Legend? I can only conclude that standards were much lower back in the day.

Everyone needs a hobby I guess 🙄 is there another account where she mocks MN being mocked on twitter?

Delatron · 09/11/2024 17:18

I’m eyeing up a gold sequin skirt from Sezane which I’ll pair with a short sleeve cream jumper. It can be mild at Christmas though and I’m cooking so I might need to switch the top for something else.

It's not available anymore. Although weirdly I'm searching for mine and can't find it anywhere. It's called the Joye dress😂😂
