What dress are you wearing for Christmas dinner?

I know there's are loads of threads on 'find me a dress for xyz' but I would love to hear what the ladies of S&B will be wearing for their Christmas dinner.

We walk to ours so for the last few years I've favoured trousers and a top and boots and wrap wool coat but I fancy a midi with long sleeves this year, and silk base layers because the hall is bloomin freezing . Just starting to look but id love to know what you've gone for.

Full styling details if you're willing; shoes, tights, jewellery, hairstyle?

Do people really actually get dressed up to eat a roast dinner? 🤣🤣
No different to every Sunday dinner 🤣

It's totally different and what's with all the hysterical laughing emojis..

I think people dressing up for a meal on Christmas Day is a bit naff

Then it would appear this thread isn’t for you.

Unless you’re in downton abbey, sitting at your dining table in taffeta and slippers is just weird

Who is doing that??

MrsWhites · 10/11/2024 17:10

I’m going with a khaki satin skirt, black chunky jumper and suede boots.

MinnieMountain · 10/11/2024 18:24

This in red/pink. It’s festive and comfy.

Unless you’re religious and I’m not, then yes it’s just like any other day of the week with a roast dinner thrown in!
I can’t believe people put on best clothes and then cook dinner wearing it!

Ah ok, well Christmas is a totally different affair in my house. Definitely not just like any other day of the week and definitely definitely not just a roast dinner.

My Christmas it’s a busy, sociable, celebratory party. For which of course I dress up.

thegirlwithemousyhair · 10/11/2024 19:19

Comfy, casual and cosy for me and everyone else. Its about relaxing so no dressing up !

Parker231 · 10/11/2024 19:25

We have a cold buffet (so our new PJ’s don’t get messed up and no one wants to cook on Christmas Day) . Would love to replicate this .

Totally different CD for us this year, no boring old roast, delicious party buffet food and 18 friends and family round for games and fun. Wearing a dress v similar to this:

What dress are you wearing for Christmas dinner?
HemlockStarglimmer · 10/11/2024 19:38

I'm thinking of shorts and a bikini top. Not because I'm going abroad but because the house I'll be staying in is always soooo hot!

EconomyClassRockstar · 10/11/2024 19:58

Inspired by this thread, and by the fact that all my children and spouses will be home with us, I went shopping today and bought....Xmas pjs! Not matching but all complementing as JCrew did a really good photo as an example and I was like, Yep! So even though I have no idea what I will be wearing during the day, come the evening when we're playing games and drinking wine, I'll be in pjs!

I’m eyeing up a gold sequin skirt from Sezane which I’ll pair with a short sleeve cream jumper. It can be mild at Christmas though and I’m cooking so I might need to switch the top for something else.

I'd love a short sleeve cream sweater! Can you tell me which one you have? TIA

daisydalrymple · 10/11/2024 21:08

@ThisMustBeMyDream that is such a lovely dress for the price! And you look absolutely gorgeous in it.

Souredgrapes · 10/11/2024 21:18

Green pleated dress from Riess . Touches my body at the collar and cuffs only . I shan’t bother with the silk waste tie. 😆

WashableVelvet · 10/11/2024 21:20

Something I already own and which allows for thick tights and a lot of thermal layers underneath - but I do like to glam up a bit on any occasion. Maybe yesterday’s outfit of a bronze leather midi skirt (with proper pockets) and a burgundy jumper. Or a warm jumpsuit. All were from vinted I think.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 10/11/2024 21:25

Awwww, thank you for the lovely compliments to those who have been so kind. I've lost a hell of a lot of weight in the last 18 months, and this dress is a size 10. I've never been a 10 in all my adult life. So, it was extra special for me to fit in to (just in time for my 40th!). I've since gone on to buy size 10 jeans which (also Asda!) made me cry. Silly really! I've lost over 6st (40kg). Almost at target. This dress covers my lumpy bits, so it pleased me! Also means I can fit my Christmas Dinner in nicely 🤣.

Team dress up here. It's Christmas!
I bought this amazing red dress for a wedding earlier this year and will be wearing it for Christmas Day, any parties and for Valentines Day 2025.

You can roll up the cuffs in case anyone is worrying about them dangling in gravy. It's also cotton so I wash it properly if I spill anything. My satin dress from a few years ago never recovered sadly.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie Thanks!

Its not that outre on actually (it is very red though 😁) but DH family are all theatrical so it's fine.

Fabulous dress ! Definitely a real site, no problems with ordering and getting delivered to Uk? (If you're in UK?)

They have some great clothes in the sale

I’ve always got a house full of people, not one of them dress any different than any other day, a couple may wear Christmas jumpers though.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 11/11/2024 08:01

I feel like Cinderella on Christmas Day. I'm in the kitchen wearing jeans, UGG boots and an apron whilst my adult DD and their equally glamorous cousins drift about looking amazing. I always intend to change into something nicer after dinner but I'm usually so tired that it ends up being pj time.

and before anyone suggests they should be in the kitchen helping me - our kitchen is too small for that. They do all the cleaning up afterwards. While I change into my pjs.

AbigailB · 11/11/2024 08:11

I’m going for a green knee length sleeveless dress with a red cardigan (Xmas colours!), black tights and red heels. Will be wearing my hair up, Xmas pud earrings, red lippy and red nails.
