What dress are you wearing for Christmas dinner?

I know there's are loads of threads on 'find me a dress for xyz' but I would love to hear what the ladies of S&B will be wearing for their Christmas dinner.

We walk to ours so for the last few years I've favoured trousers and a top and boots and wrap wool coat but I fancy a midi with long sleeves this year, and silk base layers because the hall is bloomin freezing . Just starting to look but id love to know what you've gone for.

Full styling details if you're willing; shoes, tights, jewellery, hairstyle?

I saw this one in Sainsburys last night. It's on a chiffony base so draped well. Sequins need that so it sparkles with movement.

Are you bored?

The world is gong to hell in a handcart - talking about sparkly jumpers and velvet dresses is a nice alternative to screaming into the void or raging at the machine imo.

That just makes it even more of a loser hobby though? No challenge or anything, just mindlessly making people's days a little bit worse for your own gratification. Well done you.

Shakatak · 09/11/2024 21:18

And yet you follow /stalk on twitter giraffe

thanks for the love 🥰

noblegiraffe · 09/11/2024 21:21

No, I don't follow you, you just randomly appeared on my "For You" feed which is increasingly filled with junk.

CaspersMum24 · 09/11/2024 21:22

Just the normal clothes I would wear anyway. I'll just get up, get dressed, walk downstairs and cook a traditional Christmas dinner for my OH and me. Maybe a cracker each. We'll maybe go for a walk with the dogs, drink some wine and eat some cheese. We might then watch "Gone Fishing" and then go to bed.

At risk of derailing the thread, I've deactivated Twitter today.

Silver sparkly top purchased from cancer charity shop today. Paired with faux leather pencil skirt. Will change after dinner so I can roll about floor with my 1 year old grandson. He's the best part of every day.

Fall for what?

No one is getting rubbed up about being called working class you absolute melt. 😂😂😂 I'm as working class as they come.

I'm not sitting down at home to eat a roast dinner as you quoted in X, I'm getting dressed because I'm going out to eat, as is the OP, if you'd read the first post properly. Many people are visiting family, many are hosting others, some are staying home and just want to make a day special.

No one else got scornful or condescending about anyones choices...pyjamas, onesies, ballgowns whatever, it was just a nice, jolly community thread...until you, but carry on sneering behind your now protected X account I guess, if it makes you feel superior.

Mlanket · 10/11/2024 07:38

I pretty much always do an elasticated waist!

Wearing some sequin trousers I got from Zara last year, will wear a jumper and boots to church but at home pop my leopard slippers on (Hush) and remove jumper as it’s too hot. Will wear normal jewellery and hair.

Mlanket · 10/11/2024 07:39

May have to change trousers for our walk, depending how muddy it is.

Mlanket · 10/11/2024 07:39

Perhaps I can pull off sequin trousers and wellies 😆

slipperyeel · 10/11/2024 08:00

This RL dress

with sheepskin slippers as we’ll be at home.
I’ll wear esska shoes for church in the morning.

Mlanket · 10/11/2024 08:05

If you're going to troll Mumsnet probably best not to post about it on Twitter at the same time?

That was my air fryer thread 😆😆

Seasidewalker · 10/11/2024 08:06

My sister will be in the UK for Christmas for the first time in 37 years 💕

I've got a red, knitted knee-length dress the tends to come out for Christmas, nice and stretchy...

What often happens though is that I slob around in PJ'S, start cooking and never actually get around to getting changed! 🤣. I might chuck a cheesy Christmas jumper on the top!

I do also have a very cheesy Primark Christmas but my sister is a bit partial to that (we often do "Christmas" at other times if the year when she's here 💕)

Totally - tuck them in and you'd be channeling your inner Abba!

Bluebellyhedge · 10/11/2024 08:35

Classic how everyone just carries on, discussing clothes and troll says you all fell for it.
I'm wearing this on Christmas day as we'll be at the pub with family and a few additions (friends of the ds) www.allsaints.com/women/dresses/abi-lace-trim-draped-midi-dress/W256DB-5.html

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/11/2024 08:39

Nothing expensive or non-washable, since I’ll be cooking and probably won’t be able to find the 🎄apron with robins on, so fat splashes from roast turkey/potatoes are usually inevitable.

NastyBoomtown · 10/11/2024 08:45

I'm in the market for a lovely winter dress at the moment. So maybe that or jeans and jumper!

Hattysbackpack · 10/11/2024 08:52

A beautiful M&S Autograph dress, midaxi with long blouson sleeves. Original price £79, I paid £8 on Vinted. One of those rare cases where it didn't look like much in the photos but it turned up and was stunning and super flattering. Rest of the family will be casual and I'll be swishing around like the Queen of Sheba, don't care!

Bluebellyhedge · 10/11/2024 08:58

I agree @Hattysbackpack there will be a mix of outfits at the pub, some will dress up some won't but I always make an effort. I enjoy it.

That's gorgeous @Bluebellyhedge do you wear tights with it, and what kind of footwear can I ask? I'd like to wear something like this in winter but I can't do sandals and bare legs in transit, due to inevitable snow and ice here.
