@SaffyRosie I'm wondering if there's a difference between fine needlecord and plush heavier gauge corduroy? I've never had an issue with needlecord picking up lint or animal hair, although mine is all older Toast, nothing recent.

faustina · 19/11/2024 20:25

@SaffyRosie - I have a pair of black wool trousers which I literally only have to look at and they're covered in fluff. Maybe it's to do with the colour of the corduroy? I've had dark pear and chartreuse - oh and a navy needlecord dress but never found myself as disheartened by their fluff collecting properties

IlovePond · 19/11/2024 20:52

I have a pair of the Uniqlo cord trousers from last year that I think others on here also bought. They are heavier gauge cord and attract lots of fluff, dust, dog hair…

My find needle cord shirt from toast gets ‘dusty’ but not doggy!

triggers34 · 19/11/2024 21:07

@ScottishMouse it's a roomy dress , I'm an 18 ( due to boobs) in the Selma but got this in a 14, I've only worn it with knitwear so far and received a fair few compliments . I hope you like it . Btw I can't decide if I've imagined it but I think it may have shrunk a teeny bit , I'm 5ft 2 so not bothered but it seems not as long now it's been washed! Maybe measure before hand ?

Stravaig · 19/11/2024 21:41

Shiny pretty things list:

Birds print shirt.
Sculptural rock ring.
Hoop earrings from a couple of years ago - slightly different to the current ones?
Seed necklace and hoop earrings.
A green dress ~

Birds print dress - did it sell out instantly or was it removed?
/ or
Bandhini silk dress - with diamond shaped bodice not seam across top of bust.
/ or
Sun and Moon jacquard dress - with an extra half metre wrap in the skirt.

That's almost only 5!

Like those @Stravaig - lovely selection of jewellery in particular!

Bailiwitch · 20/11/2024 12:21

So … I’m not new to Toast - probably first shopped there in 2000 and have bought household stuff consistently forever - but I’m not sure I’ve posted on any of these threads as I lost interest in the clothes a few years ago. But now I live closer to my favourite branch I’ve taken to dropping in for a browse - and a couple of weeks ago saw the perfect coat on display by the window. It was in the Men’s section so the size small that I tried on was huge. (Actually even if it had fitted I’d have gone home and ordered online anyway - I really don’t do in person clothes shopping these days. I like time to think.)

Anyhow - I took delivery of the extra small yesterday and it’s as beautiful as I remembered.

But the packaging! It arrived loose in a huge and not waterproof brown paper bag, with two tiny pieces of tissue paper floating around inside. Matches (RIP) would have sent it in a beautiful marbled cardboard box; Net-a-Porter would have included a proper, long lasting clothes bag - so I found Toast’s packaging not just disappointing but vaguely horrifying. (I know sales packaging anywhere can be of a lower standard, but this was new season stuff.) Not sure how reasonable it is to feel distinctly miffed …

faustina · 20/11/2024 12:37

@Bailiwitch - I expect they'd say it's more sustainable to send that way? Quite a few more expensive brands offer non-fancy packaging now, sometimes as standard, sometimes as a choice. I did used to love the Net-a-porter bags though - so useful for packing and storage!

OrangeyLemon · 20/11/2024 13:24

Wyse used to send things in boxes with branded tissue paper, it felt like a real event when something arrived, but now stuff comes in cellophane inside a plastic bag. Not that I've bought much from them these days. I actually really like Toast packaging. The paper bags are quite robust and so easily recycled. I can see that if buying a winter coat a box would be nice through.

Primrosespaw · 20/11/2024 18:22

I have a beautiful wool Toast coast from about ten years ago (moths have had a go 🙄) and tat arrived in a beautiful thick cotton dust bag.

cat fluff news. I have the brown gabi cords from this season. I have three cats and they are not attracting fluff. Saving me at school on cold days doing duty. I have ordered the toffee.

I also have two of the cord baya shirts. Green and ochre. Cats hair free at this point!

Poplinskirt · 20/11/2024 18:24

My most recent order arrived in a box, however I also like the brown bags
The fit in our parcel box nicely.

Bailiwitch · 20/11/2024 20:02

Dust bags? Boxes?

Ha! So IANBU?

(Not being princessy - I’m more concerned that on a freezing wet morning, if the courier had dropped the package the brown paper bag wouldn’t have protected my lovely coat.)

Anyhow … A velvet quilt is top of my wish list. But I’m distressed that they don’t seem to sell unfitted sheets any more. I’ve been making my bed with Toast cotton / linen sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers for more than a decade - I’m sad that I can’t replace them like for like.

Edited

Mine are delivered by RM
5 steps from the van to my door and no disasters so far.
The bag is fairly sturdy

Primrosespaw · 20/11/2024 20:58

@Bailiwitch the velvet throws are a wonder. Me and the cat love them at this time of year. Very much worth it, although I did pick up two in a sale.

Snowyowl78 · 21/11/2024 11:22

Toast now has a pop up store in Tokyo! I don’t know why they are going to Japan and USA before they are going to Europe! It’s annoying. I wonder what the prices are like compared to the UK prices. The EU prices are massively inflated on the website.

IlovePond · 21/11/2024 12:01

Interesting @Snowyowl78 - I’ve been to Tokyo a few times. I can see Toast’s long tunics and trousers maybe getting a market, but it’s difficult to imagine many Japanese women going for Toast clothes, especially the very long dresses and skirts.

For example, I’m 5’4” and each time I’ve been to Japan I have felt like a giant amongst women, (as well as hugely fat 😿). Toast skirts and dresses unaltered would swamp most Japanese women. Also, apart from designer clothes, I have found Japan much cheaper to buy from than the UK, so I don’t know how much customers would be willing to pay.

Having said that, I suppose they have done their research and know what they’re doing.

I agree it’s weird they are not expanding into Europe - I suspect Brexit may have made it easier to open up in Japan than Ireland or France, for example.

Snowyowl78 · 21/11/2024 12:38

Yes I thought that @IlovePond about sizing too. I am 5’3 and have to take up most dresses. Not trousers because they are always cropped!
I guess it’s a pop up to test the waters!!

I am in the EU now and the mark up is crazy. Plus you have to pay €25 for deliver and €15 I think for returns. So if something doesn’t fit you’ll have shelled out €40 for nothing. I wish they would branch out to Europe. When they released the new collection there was some sort of blip on the website and they were exactly the same price in € as they are in £ for about 2 days so I swooped in and bought a coat!

Snowyowl78 · 21/11/2024 12:40

Lots of new Reworn. Two neat linen jackets which are lovely and this is a huge discount as they’re £225 new. Small sizes

IlovePond · 21/11/2024 12:56

Thanks for the Reworn info @Snowyowl78 -if those velvet platforms had been size 5, I think I would have succumbed!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 21/11/2024 13:23

Thanks for the reworn info @Snowyowl78 - my first ever reworn purchase the black Mary Jane’s, no idea what the sizing is like but I thought I would give them a try as I have the cordovan ones in my wish list but was unsure about the colour.

QueenJaineApproximately · 21/11/2024 13:41

Snap @Bimblesalong . I also have a nephew at York Uni and plan to visit again soon. On one visit I managed to get to Toast in both York and Harrogate and was given a sample of a lovely winter warmer to drink in store. 😊

mizu · 21/11/2024 13:56

@Snowyowl78 I saw that pop up in Tokyo on instagram. Used to live there and told a friend about it who lives just outside the city and she text back saying it was SO expensive and Japanese people were really struggling at the moment......she sent this

Hi there! That store will be open for a limited time in Shibuya😃
Extremely expensive😂😂😂😂

Their policy is great!
But ・・・in today's poor Japan,
Japan is becoming progressively poorer and poorer.😂
only a limited number of people will buy it😅😅😅

Coats (125,400 yen), sweaters (110,000 yen), skirts (36,300 yen), gloves (11,000 yen), and cushion covers (18,700 yen)

So coats are around £650 and jumpers £500!?!!

IlovePond · 21/11/2024 14:09

Thanks @mizu - very expensive!

faustina · 21/11/2024 14:37

Aren't there a lot of a certain type of British style brands over there though? Barbour, Old Town, Lavenham etc? And (from instagram scrolling) isn't there a sort of wear your clothes really oversized style too? It looks quite nice when well done. Maybe it's the same kind of audience Toast is after?
