I'm a bit aghast at tales of hairpins in pockets and visibly dirty items being received!

Is there a trend of people wearing things out then returning them for refund?(!)

I feel more like a grumpy old curmudgeon shaking their fist at the decline in civilisation every passing day 🤣

Snowyowl78 · 27/12/2024 21:32

Yes @Stravaig i think it has to have been worn, otherwise why would you carry around hair pins in the pocket. That said, I might still keep it if Toast give me a discount! Pretty shoddy.

Happens all the time. I bought a Barbour jacket from a reputable online outdoor shop, it arrived with used tissues in the pockets 😱They were very apologetic and exchanged it for one they had thoroughly checked.

I've also had several very obviously worn items from Seasalt; a dress with a shopping list in the pocket, a robe with very grubby cuffs and a coat that reeked of perfume. It is rather off-putting.

ScottishMouse · 27/12/2024 21:51

Wow, these stories of worn items are shocking. Earlier this year, I bought the red Kaia cardigan and it had been obviously worn - and well worn at that as the wool had pilled and looked quite shabby. I returned it, later bought the same cardigan in a different colour, and although I have worn it quite a bit, it looks nothing like the state that red one came in. I cannot believe nobody noticed.

hicat · 27/12/2024 21:53

thanks for the welcomes :)

they did offer me 20% on an item that the pocket was sewn on squint. Its the last they have in stock and oh it's beautiful (embroidered textured shirt). The dirty version doesn't fit anyway, just a bit insulting! Hope i'm not coming across as very negative. I'll admit i'm sitting wearing my corduroy toast dungarees and with my donegal cardigan over my lap, and my gift card nestled under the tree. I am def a fan of the clothes.

@Stravaig I find hestra gloves are very good quality. i have reynauds so my standard for 'warm' is extremely high. I think these will work for me as middle season gloves, but it'll still be the big guns for winter!

@triggers34 aw I'm glad to hear there was a nice person working there when you were in. it's nice to go into an actual shop, so i'll try not be permanently put off. hope the dress you want makes a sale appearance :)

MiracleToast · 27/12/2024 22:17

Commiserations on all the unsuccessful sale purchases. I just got home and opened mine. The basket is almost comically disappointing. It’s so squashed that the handles don’t even stay up. It would be a good pet bed with a sheepskin but not for fifty quid—return. The velvet quilt described as mole looks like a silver grey. I’ll wait to see it in the morning light but the reviews were correct, the colour is so very different from toasts pics—return.

OrangeyLemon · 27/12/2024 22:18

Welcome back @hicat! I’ve received a despatched email now 😅
These accounts of dirty and worn clothes are quite shocking! I always strive to return asap and to wrap things so it looks like I haven’t even opened the packages! As I wait for my sale purchases I’m wondering if I should have just paid full price for something on my wish list instead.. but the sale is a good opportunity to take a chance on something and I felt like I’d been waiting forever for the sale! I was poised to purchase 😊

Snowyowl78 · 28/12/2024 10:45

Toast just replied to my email about the hair pins and they would like to offer me free delivery for my next order! Pretty crap. I already get free delivery.

ScottishMouse · 28/12/2024 10:49

Wow @Snowyowl78, that is rubbish! When I received the obviously worn Kaia cardigan they just apologised and explained how to return it!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 28/12/2024 10:51

Two more orders arrived today. The batik bandana is lovely, I shall wear that later today; the Minako trousers I do like but the elastic in the waistband is far too tight for my post Christmas stomach, they’re currently oos but I might see if there is any returns in a larger size.
I don’t like the colours of the Cleo stripe tee, so I’m not even trying it on. The Decho cap is a spare for the one I bought full price as I love it so much, and the socks, apart from being fawn not grey as described, are staying.

Snowyowl78 · 28/12/2024 10:52

@ScottishMouse i assumed they would give me a discount. It’s pretty rubbish since someone has already worn it. Maybe they think I am making it up?!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 28/12/2024 10:52

That’s really poor @Snowyowl78 .

faustina · 28/12/2024 11:14

They're not great with discounts by way of an apology for anything! I've had badly made things (to the point of unwearable) previously and they've just said sorry, send it back

I don't think I've ever had anything obviously worn though - that is really manky. When I received my bleu de chauffe bag, someone had obviously been changing the length of the strap - you could see the marks on the leather, but it didn't bother me and it didn't look used as such

@Theteapotsbrokenspout - I have two sizes of the minako trousers in a yet to be opened brown bag (just arrived). Which size are you looking for?

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 28/12/2024 11:33

@faustina I need to try the L. I’m now thinking they may be too big elsewhere as it’s only the waist elastic that’s giving me a problem, but it’s definitely far too tight.

faustina · 28/12/2024 11:38

ah - yes that's the trouble when they make the waist too tight but it's ok everywhere else - and then the next size doesn't quite work . Maybe the button is moveable?

faustina · 28/12/2024 11:41

@Theteapotsbrokenspout - ignore me. I've just opened the bag and see there is no button! Sorry

Countmeout · 28/12/2024 11:41

Sorry to hear about everyone’s troubles with orders.

My second order has arrived.

onyx dress - keeping, it’s flattering on and I will wear it the length it is , about 2/3 inches above ankle bone. Great dress for someone taller as there’s a good hem on it if you needed more length. Stripes all match up and it has French Seams.

bilberry poncho - good length on me and lovely and soft. I have lots to wear with this for an early spring holiday when the weather may be unreliable and I may need a layer or two.

bandana - keeping, I’ve also ordered this in a separate colour as an afterthought.

v necked linen dress - Fit was fine but just too much of one colour and quite ordinary, not flattering on me. Something weird might be going on with one shoulder but that part was creased and I didn’t like it on me so didn’t investigate if it was odd or just creased.

MsDastardley · 28/12/2024 11:46

I’ve just received my sale order. Only two items this time. I got the lilac seersucker dress, which is lovely. Also the denim wrap round skirt. I’ve already got this in black, which is quite stiff denim. The blue one is much softer fabric, the waist very small. I measured against black and it’s a good two inches smaller 😬. I think I will move the inside button as plenty of room on the wrap.

@Netcam all my John Lewis Brora order is being returned tomorrow. The cord dress looks awful on me. I had to size up for bust so the sleeves and skirt look too big. The other 4 things I ordered are meh. No spend 2025 might be easier than I thought if this lot anything to go by.

Question for post menopausal toasties. Have any of you experienced ever increasing chest size. I’ve actually lost weight, but increased from 34DD to 34FF. I don’t take HRT. I train 5 times a week, and happy enough with rest of body.

ScottishMouse · 28/12/2024 11:50

Ah @Countmeout i’m already sad that I sent the onyx stripe dress back, it’s a lovely one. But the stripes definitely didn’t line up on the one I got. Maybe I’ll try again if it comes back into stock.
I have ordered the v-neck linen dress too, but it hasn’t dispatched yet. I suspect the colour (stone) will be too draining though.

WaveringAverter · 28/12/2024 11:51

My order arrived today and here's the verdict for now:

  • Wide leg corduroy jumpsuit in charcoal

This one is surprisingly nice and looks great on. could've been a bit longer in the leg and the one pocket in the back always annoys me (and as a lefty it's on the wrong side too!). Might keep.

  • The Jessa dungarees in Indigo

I bought these in a 12 as I like oversize and they're quite good as well. Legs could've been wider, but I can fix that myself if needed. Nice fabric and colour. Keep!

  • Wool flannel tie front grey culotte

This is a weird one, I ordered a 10 and an 8 and the waist is too small even though I'm normally an 8-10. Plus fabric likely itchy and was creased already and I don't have time or energy for ironing wool! Both going back.

  • Loop back jersey sweater in green
Not sure about this one, like the colour, neckline is too high (what does Toast have against v-necks?). Not sure yet.
  • Textured cotton poplin wrap shirt

This is nice, I ordered it this summer but didn't want to pay full price but now I'll keep it as it's nice for layering and can be worn in summer too.

Overall largely successful!

hicat · 28/12/2024 11:51

Hmm I did receive a 20% offer after my top debacle. But there was barely an apology and very little surprise.

I finally received my dispatch email yay! I have ordered the ridiculously expensive hat (again) to try on and check whether I like it enough to spend so much on it. (That bonnet one that made me feel like I was a kid dressing up for a play). It's in the sale but still, I'll need to sell quite a lot on vinted to allow it!

I wore my silk jacquard dress on Christmas Day and got lots of ooos and ahhs. I can't work out how to wear a bra under it though. I often find my bras and toast dresses can't be friends.

I feel bad for the corduroy dungarees that have been in multiple sales. If anyone's considering them I can attest that they're amazingly comfy and get people asking me where I bought them. Pretty much my uniform at the moment

WaveringAverter · 28/12/2024 11:55

@hicat I have the cord dungarees too, in black and I love them. So sturdy and lovely fabric.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 28/12/2024 12:04

@WaveringAverter I'm tempted by the textured cotton poplin wrap shirt in ink, but I feel at a busty, short (5' 4”) size 12, I would be swamped. I wouldn’t want to wear it as a dress, only a layering piece.

WaveringAverter · 28/12/2024 12:06

I'm 1.65 (5 6"?) and it's great, will upload a pic later. I don't wear dresses only long shirts over wide trousers

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 28/12/2024 12:22

A picture would be great @WaveringAverter thank you.
