The little olive wood pinch pots have arrived and they're definitely staying! Also the cotton linen canvas trousers in tallow. I really like them too but want to compare with the minako trousers which arrive tomorrow as I was only thinking of keeping one pair. Tallow is a great, slightly unusual neutral colour!

oddandelsewhere · 27/12/2024 13:39

Mixed reception here to my two buys. I love the black padded jacket, it's oversized and very cosy and just looks a bit different. It's probably more Plumo than Toast.
The new season blue flared cord top is a completely different kettle of fish, I think I must have bought it while still heavily sedated! For me it's too much like a men's shirt, gathered on to the back yoke and with a curved hem. I had pictured it as a tres chic flared jacket cut in shaped back and front pieces rather than getting it's swing shape from gathering.
Anyway, a 50% success rate isn't bad, but it does leave me with a predicament. I can't wear dresses because I can't manage tights, so I need some tops which are either very warm or have room for thick thermals. I like cropped length knitwear which is very oversized width ways. Very hard to find!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 27/12/2024 10:01

First parcel from toast - cord lounge bag in blue and some socks. The bag is huge and more of a greeny blue, very useful for what I want it for - the documents I have to take to meetings. I did wonder whether I should have bought the black but this colour is far more 'me' and the socks I bought are exactly the same colour, in fact so identical that I didn’t see them at first and thought they were missing.
Two more parcels to come tomorrow, and one still awaiting dispatch.

The blue/green bag is also among the things I ordered. But I also ordered the checked grey linen bag and the dress in the same fabric, so I guess I will have to chose between the two.
A couple of months ago I promised myself not to buy more clothes, and then I ordered 21 items in the present Toast sale. Ah well, there will probably be some ill-fitting items among them, that will have to go back...

AmethystMoonShine · 27/12/2024 14:54

The wide leg cotton hemp denim trousers arrived today. They are lovely but even on my nearly 5’6” body they are too long. A shame but I cannot be bothered with getting them taken up. Fingers crossed a few other items on their way will work.

OftenOrange · 27/12/2024 15:43

It seems that none of us are having much success with the sale.
My order arrived , all but VEJA trainers a definite no and even those are a query as may be better with next size .
My returns ;
kick flare jeans , skin tight in my usual size and as I had flu can vouch it’s not me getting bigger ! May try again as reviews say to size down rather than up , so wonder if they are mislabelled.
Blue check crinkle cotton top with inbuilt tie belt , not my shape , very unflattering
Birkenstock Bostons, too big without socks .
Butternut shortsleeved cardi, only just big enough and not sure I’d wear.
Still to arrive,brown slate
cord dungarees and orange linen lounge dress ( why did I order that !!)

IlovePond · 27/12/2024 16:27

I can’t believe there has been so little in this sale in terms of items - there were at least 700 women’s items in the last winter sale - maybe more - this year there were no more than 400 on day one. Plus they haven’t added anything else since the first day - it’s very poor, imo.

I suppose I have noticed it more as I found the summer sale disappointing, plus there is nothing in this sale drop that I am remotely interested in. (Some stuff has appeared in several previous sales and I have tried it already 🙀)

I suspect this is a deliberate tactic on Toast’s part - rather than reducing all/most of the previous season’s stock, they have decided to reduce just a few bits, plus throw in stuff from previous sales.

Good for my wallet, I suppose, but it wouldn’t have hurt Toast to have chucked in a few baubles and a couple more jumpers/scarves/coats in the sale!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 27/12/2024 16:34

Maybe they’ll top it up in the new year @IlovePond . I agree it’s disappointing, although I’ve made several orders each one only contains a couple of bits. My monetary spend is much less than previous years - although I guess that’s not a bad thing.

IlovePond · 27/12/2024 16:39

True @Theteapotsbrokenspout - Toast presumably want us all to crack and buy full price. (If so, they’ll be waiting a long time for me 😹)

IlovePond · 27/12/2024 16:42

Ironically, I had decided to buy a woollen Toast coat in the sale, but the very few that appeared didn’t appeal!

In previous years, I would have been spoilt for choice! Oh well! It’s not very cold here atm, anyway !

faustina · 27/12/2024 16:43

I suppose if they're aiming to be less 'fashion' and more long-lasting wear all year round, then it makes sense to them not to reduce everything from autumn/winter 24? Less so with proper high summer clothes, but I know I've found myself wearing much more year round than I used to - eg heavyweight linen cotton - I think that's fine right now, with a big coat and boots and a jumper

Looking at JL for example, it's thousand and thousands of synthetic items, all overpriced to start with and even now I'm not sure I'd pay their prices for those things

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 27/12/2024 16:51

I think I probably agree with that @faustina I’ve certainly got better at layering. Mostly I really like the fabrics that toast use, so many things seem to irritate my skin as I’ve got older, I find a lot of synthetics really uncomfortable to wear. I’m not so keen on their viscose and I can’t wear wool, but there’s still plenty of choice.

ScottishMouse · 27/12/2024 17:12

Lying around recuperating means I am doing a lot of scrolling through the sale section to see if anything else pops up 😆 I’m very tempted by the tie neck cotton poplin shirt from last summer. I tried it then and I remember it being very oversized but swithered a lot before I sent it back. Maybe it’s worth another try at sale price. Does anyone have it and can sing its praises?

ScottishMouse · 27/12/2024 17:13

Agree totally that it is the fabrics that draw me to Toast and that there are very few other places to shop with fabrics as good. The shapes and colours are often not for me, but the fabrics tempt me every time.

IlovePond · 27/12/2024 17:24

I can’t remember the last time I bought anything from JL and I have stopped buying viscose because I always shrink it. That’s why I ignore all Toast’s ‘crepe’ dresses - of which, there seem to be many!

I really like their cotton summer dresses with pockets.

Stoic123 · 27/12/2024 17:42

Sales items received here. The napkin rings are staying - they are what I hoped they'd be. Very cute. Also keeping the Puck loopback jersey sweater as the colour is lovely and it's a nice shape on me (£55 is a good price too).

Returning other 3 items- Alda tee in Delft (neckline too high), ribbed socks in rust (colour too dull in real life) and Suki pannelled cotton linen trousers (just a bit meh).

Nothing else appeals - will see what else gets added.

Me too, I never buy Toast at full price, I can't justify it.

Netcam · 27/12/2024 18:00

I agree that the sale was disappointing. Especially as I only really wanted a Kaia cardigan.

But since JL had a green, short, boxy Brora cardigan in the sale that I liked as an alternative, I've gone for that instead and Toast have missed out on my custom. Maybe they'll add them later, but after 31st December I'm not buying anything until 2026.

The Panelled Organic Indigo Denim Trousers I ordered have been dispatched, let's see if I end up sending them back.

I almost never buy anything at full price. Only if it is something really special that I particularly want and don't think I would ever get in a sale. But most things eventually end up in a sale, and if they don't, I can probably manage without them.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 27/12/2024 18:27

I'm now regretting not using the 15% discount that they sent me a few weeks ago... I was banking on the Freya dress being in the sale and it isn't. I've decided against the Kantha pinafore - it's dry clean only and that isn't practical for me. Slightly tempted by the bags but just not sure I can justify at the moment. Not feeling enthused by much else at present.

hicat · 27/12/2024 18:59

hello all! I haven't posted on here since summer, have had lots of upheavals that distracted me from this happy corner of mumsnet, but found myself missing the toast sale chats and just caught up on the last week of posts. @ScottishMouse sorry to hear you were so unwell, i'm glad you're recovering!
@IlovePond i was in the edinburgh shop before christmas and totally had the feeling of being judged for my accent, even though I was scottish in scotland (i'm not 'edinburgh' scottish mind...) the sales assistant (with a posh not scottish accent) was extremly standoffish with me and my partner (who I was trying to show the mens clothing to). having had 10 years of living in London and visiting independant art galleries on the reg, I have no qualms with being myself in those tight atmospheres. (I actually worked in a high design shop for a spell during my studies and made it my job to make everyone feel welcome..ha!)

Bought a list of things in the sale on 22nd but I've had no delivery notices despite the order showing as fulfilled on the website. any luck with yours @AmethystMoonShine @OrangeyLemon ? also nervous now...

just wondering if anyone else has received dirty items from toast often? They always send me a dull apology, but it gets annoying. Usually when somethings running low in stock, but it was a full price nonetheless. I wonder if they know my accent online too... Considering a trustpilot review to get their attention, but it seems so unchristmassy heh. Hope you've all had a lovely festive season. I recieved green toast/hestra gloves from inlaws and a green toast bobble hat from my partner (thats actually made very close to where I live!) oh and a toast gift card from my parents :) Sorry this post was massive.

Stravaig · 27/12/2024 19:28

Lovely to see you back @hicat.

There's lots I'd like to say about what it's like being a Scot in Scotland these days, but I'm not articulate enough right now to achieve the tact required for general readership, so just a rather ineffectual heart reaction instead!

Are the Hestra gloves as cosy as they look? Rather smitten with the plum mittens this year (fortunately sold out in my size :).

triggers34 · 27/12/2024 19:41

Good evening toasties

I just want to report that I visited the Edinburgh shop today . The sales assistant was lovely Canadian accent I think . I didn't feel judged.
They didn't have much in the way of dresses - no Freya's so either sold out or about to go on sale she hinted at the latter .
I've bought a dress in the sale pin stripe shirt dress and signed up for notifications if the Selma gets returned .

IlovePond · 27/12/2024 20:02

Welcome back @hicat - it’s a shame that service in Toast can be so variable 🙀

AmethystMoonShine · 27/12/2024 20:53

Hi @hicat welcome back. I finally had my dispatch emails for my 22/12 orders today. My 23/12 order has arrived and is waiting to be sent back!

Snowyowl78 · 27/12/2024 20:57

I just opened my sale parcel. The green crinkle gathered waist dress makes me look enormous so that will go back. The Cotton Linen Wrap Jacket | Golden Sand I tried on and it has 5 hair pins in the pocket!!! Which suggests someone must have worn it. Have emailed Toast.
