@Countmeout - I don't know because they took the picture and listing off the minute they'd sold out! I was looking at gloves earlier today and found this though - it looks really nice!

@Netcam I was also an English teacher out there 1998-2000 Grin such a fun time!

FitzLea · 24/11/2024 21:24

@faustina I think it might be on the latest IG reel on Toast Islington, but you do have to look quickly.

Countmeout · 24/11/2024 21:25

Is it one of these @faustina

@FitzLea and @Countmeout - thanks, will have a look . I think it might be the mid brown? If you look on the link for the green gloves, she's wearing it It's my own silly fault for leaving it too long. They said I could call one of the shops and get them to send it, but it would be a massive faff to send back - not like just returning to Toast

Stravaig · 24/11/2024 21:32

@faustina If you search 'Bleu de Chauffe Mini Workwear Bag', switch to images, there are some archived pictures in Burgundy, is that the one you mean?

It looks a similar reddish-brown to one I got in a different style a few years ago, but that was called Peat. It sits in the background of my life as a 'travel essentials' bag, so that my passport, documents, money etc stay with me even if I'm forced to check in my rucsac. Given illness, it has been absolutely nowhere so far :) I've never owned or used a handbag in the usual sense, which gives you an idea of how gorgeous it is!

ps. If consensus is that Burgundy = Peat, am happy to try a photo in daylight.
pps. cannot get that link to work nicely! No brain.

faustina · 24/11/2024 21:33

I'm hoping to be near Mayfair tomorrow so might try to pop in if there's time (they have it there) - not the same as trying in your own house though!

faustina · 24/11/2024 21:37

@Stravaig - yes I think it was reddish brown- yours sounds wonderful! Maybe if I don't make it to Mayfair tomorrow I might take you up on your kind offer of a photo

Those were the years I was there! I was in Hamamatsu shi in Shizuoka ken. Where were you?

IlovePond · 25/11/2024 00:21

@mizu and @Netcam - I wish I had had the nerve to teach English abroad in my youth. I wanted to but various things got in the way!

I’ve been to Japan three times just before Covid and travelled between Tokyo and Hiroshima. It’s a wonderful country!

IlovePond · 25/11/2024 00:22

I guess we are on potential sale watch this week…

ScottishMouse · 25/11/2024 07:08

@IlovePond looks like they are keeping us on our toes. Last year the email came at 8am on the equivalent Monday to today. But I just received a “Selection of Gifts” email, so I’m guessing it won’t be followed in an hour with a sale email. ☹️

mizu · 25/11/2024 07:34

@Netcam Shimosa Nayakayma and Motoyawata in Chiba Ken, outskirts of Tokyo.

Countmeout · 25/11/2024 08:05

The small one this colour is called peat on the Bleu de Chauffe website @faustina . It comes in that colour ,black and a colour called cuba libre which is tan.

That’s a beautiful bag @Stravaig . Mine is this one. It’s the dark brown colour. It holds quite a lot.
I imagine the colours have subtle variations .

@Countmeout They're all so gorgeous!

When I first looked at the Bleu de Chauffe site, I saw a sort of slouchy hobo-ish bag (?) and was instantly smitten. Sadly/luckily, it was the end of a collection, soon vanished, so my lifelong devotion to pockets and backpacks was not tested!

Stravaig · 25/11/2024 08:49

Toast has been a fantastic source of bags for travel over the years. Remember the Bedouin bag (perfect passport size front pockets), the orange Nivaldo de Lima monk's bag (magically expands to hold a book, water bottle and old-fashioned fan), or the suede bucket bag (used this as hand luggage for years, despite no way of closing the top).

MiracleToast · 25/11/2024 09:24

@faustina I have the bag in my wish list! Here’s a screenshot. I love this colour way, hope Toast restocks 😭

I was disappointed to get that email this morning. I really want to treat myself, but with some unexpected expenses I've had lately I can't splash out on full price at the moment!

faustina · 25/11/2024 11:24

Thanks so much @Stravaig - that is a beautiful bag. I loved it when Toast stocked it but ordered the larger version in black from Bleu de Chauffe - because that was before bloody Brexit. I could fit quite a lot into it but I wasn't so keen on the shape (more square than yours), and the strap was too thin for the weight of the bag contents, so it cut into my shoulder

@Countmeout - is it the larger version that you have? did you order from France? Would you mind telling me how much they stung you for at customs?

I never made into London so am sitting here still wondering what to do .... the peat is beautiful

Toast are very good at choosing their bags aren't they!

Countmeout · 25/11/2024 11:57

@faustina maybe slightly outing.
I didn’t pay due to my location.
Yes it’s the larger version. Holds a reasonable amount. More than my Vive La Difference that I bought from Toast a few years ago. The fastening is still very stiff on it though.

OP posts:
faustina · 25/11/2024 12:02

Ah - thanks @Countmeout . Just like the good old days here, I guess they're not a big enough company to sort all that out - like sezane for example

Countmeout · 25/11/2024 12:03

@faustina I figured if id had to pay the total wouldn’t have been much more than Toast are charging for it.

OP posts:
faustina · 25/11/2024 12:06

Oh really? I thought they always added spurious 'service charges' on at this end and it was just a real lottery what the end total would be
