I've enjoyed reading these threads, although my budget is way below most of you! I have treated myself and my mum to the M&S advent calendar every year for the past number of years now. This year when I found out what was in it, I wasn't fussed, especially since it's gone up in price again! I was impressed with the contents of the Holland & Barrett one so I've bought two of them instead and I'm looking forward to us opening them.

I got teen DD the Rituals calendar a good few weeks back, I'm signed up with them and received a pre-release email with a discount code so decided to just get it and not think of the cost! She adores Rituals so I know she'll love this and isn't expecting it at all.

Re. the Aldi dupes, I find them brilliant but it's so annoying that they are only once a year and they sell out very quickly. I got the DE peptide moisturiser dupe recently and it's really good but it's sold out now and I know I won't get it again until next year! Also, in my store they display all the beauty 'specials' at the till because they said they were being stolen. But this means you can't really get to look at things - we all know how quickly the till staff work!!

I didn't realise they only release the dupes once a year. Why? Surely if there was regular stock then people could use them as a staple and there would be less of an issue with stealing/buying stock up to put on Ebay.

Have Aldi ever said why they do this? Is it just scarcity marketing?

IlovePond · 24/10/2024 18:36

Lots of the peptide and whipped cream moisturiser in my holiday Aldi, plus the SR serum dupes.

Annoyingly all reduced today - presumably to clear - after I had bought lots earlier in the week😾

Twinsandsome · 24/10/2024 18:45

I used to use and love mother dirt AO mist, would anyone here be able to recommend a similar product? I wish they still made it x

That is annoying.

Received an email from Glossybox offering their Winter box to subscribers for £25 instead of £40. There's some quite nice things in it that work out at about £2.50 each for that price so I bought it.

If anyone else has a subscription be warned the £5 code wasn't working so I had to faff around with CS to get them to refund it retrospectively. Hopefully they will have sorted it tomorrow.

Not something I ever used but it looks like Allies of Skin have something similar. Quite expensive though.

Also looks like Boots do or did something similar as this came up on Amazon.

I would like to say, that I don't think it matters what your budget is . We are all interested in your advents and also we have to remember we are all at different stages in our lives with different budgets. I have maybe splashed out more this year due to alot of sadness xx
Enjoy your advent , regardless of budget

Caramelandsalt · 24/10/2024 19:19

Didn't mean to say budget so many times.

MidnightMeltdown · 24/10/2024 19:42

@LifeInAHamsterWheel

Holland and Barrett looks really good this year. I'm surprised that it hasn't sold out yet.

I'm currently using a cleansing balm that I got in a Holland and Barrett calendar at some point and it's really good (better than some of the high end ones I've used), and it's an affordable price. I definitely plan to repurchase when I run out of cleansers.

Good point well said !

TriciaMcMillan · 24/10/2024 20:12

@Caramelandsalt absolutely right and an important message. I hope your AC gives you added cheer after your sadness.

And whatever the budget, we're all itching to get a bargain, that's half the fun - "oooh, I only paid tuppence ha'penny, but have a full sized bottle of something ludicrously expensive I'd never otherwise buy..."

Seendacut · 24/10/2024 20:19

Ooh I am looking for a skincare one, can anyone recommend any. I don't wear makeup but love skincare.

Are you keen for different brands or happy with a single one? Budget?

The Grüum one looks lovely and great value for a single brand calendar.

Budget is around £200 and id like a mix of brands.

I went for H&B as I'm not interested in makeup. It does have some body and hair stuff too though.

Boots have a skincare one. I don't know is it still available though. I ruled that one out because of the 3 fake tans!!!

@MathsFiend Returns aren’t usually accepted on beauty advent calendars, unless JL has a different policy.
Ask your DH to inspect it when it arrives to make sure everything is in tact and all of the items listed on their website match what is in the drawers

That's quite a hard one! Most of the skin care only ones are either sole brands at that price point, or much cheaper and multi brand (H and B, Boots). Thinking cap on...

Oh no. I have never bought an advent calendar but this year I just wanna treat myself. Does it help if I up my budget. I can stretch to £260 but that would be the absolute max!

TriciaMcMillan · 24/10/2024 20:49

@Seendacut slightly over budget, but the Fortnums calendar has very little makeup and seems more geared towards skincare and 'wellness'?

I think they have to accept Internet returns legally, don't they?

IlovePond · 24/10/2024 21:01

I forgot to say: It’s Thirsk Aldi that has the reduced whipped and peptide creams and serums.

Doubleraspberry · 24/10/2024 21:11

Elemis is £195 so fully skincare but single brand.

Addictedtobeauty · 24/10/2024 21:20

Liberty is also still available but again, at £250, over budget. The Boots skincare calendar is cheaper -currently £89 with code ADVENT10.

Puravida23 · 24/10/2024 21:23

@Seendacut Other ones still available include Next ( they have 2 price points) , Liberty, Harvey Nicks . They all have makeup in as well though but worth checking out. Otherwise you could consider one of the Xmas beauty bags. Spacenk has a nice skincare one at the moment and I think Cult beauty have some and will be releasing some more soon. Sephora also did some great ones last year but haven't heard anything this year
Also QVC normally do a great Elemis box around this time (keep an eye on this thread I am sure one of us will pick it up) so you could always make your own
