I know its expensive, I know its "must have", I know she is a great designer... but I am not sure I like my new bag

DH bought it for me as a present

What do you think?

Is it me, or does it look a bit, well, tacky?

OP posts:
Oliveoil · 21/04/2008 21:10

dh buys me underwear too quite a bit and that can be hit and miss

LOL at OO

Monkeytrousers · 21/04/2008 21:13

I really do not get this bag fetish. They are all horrible too. Kind of people who wear fur coats in June too. Tasteless

Coolmama · 21/04/2008 21:21

First of all - happy first anniversary - how absolutely lovely of your DH to go out on his own and get you such a lovely gift! - I would use it until it falls apart!! - He may have missed the mark a bit in terms of what you might have chosen for yourself, but the fact is he did it just for you! - Nothing beats that - and sometimes you just have to say "Fuck being practical!"
The upside to an expensive bag is also as and when the silvered leather on the underside gets a bit scuffed or worn, you can take it back to AH and they can restore it for you, repair if needed and clean it, so it will last ages!!

Jbck · 21/04/2008 21:27

If you think it'll get used once or twice then lie in a cupboard in it's dustbag then be honest with him.

DH bought me a lovely pendant for my last big birthday, a similar amount of money but the chain was shorter than I wear (thyroid goitre years ago makes me feel claustrophobic). I figured it was too much money and it was such a lovely gesture for me to say it's lovely then wear it once to show I liked it but put it away afterwards.

If you don't think you'll grow to love it, tell him how touched you are & how much you love him but that you'd prefer something that may go with more outfits or something more practical but just as extravagant bagwise (altho' you do have your silver shoes.............)

NorthernLurker · 21/04/2008 21:30

I like the bag - and quality always shows - but what I like most of all is the love that's gone into it! You're a lucky woman with a great bag (and dh) - enjoy

HereComeTheGirls · 21/04/2008 21:32

I think it is absolutely gorgeous! If you can afford it then enjoy it!!

MrsMuddle · 21/04/2008 21:54

I love it, and I think you'll grow to love it too, because every time you look at it, you'll remember how proud of himself your DH was for buying it. You said he's beaming from ear to ear. That's what you'll remember in five years time - not how much it cost or what else you could have bought with the money.

ButterflyMcQueen · 21/04/2008 21:56

i love it

expatinscotland · 21/04/2008 21:58

Sorry, but I find that bag not very attractive.

Nighbynight · 21/04/2008 22:01

Its elegant and feminine, I like it. But 1000 euros?????

gomez · 21/04/2008 22:07

It will bash up beautifully and you will have a couple of nappies and some wipes shoved it in this time next year. You will still be bunging it over you shoulder in 10 years time with a pair of jeans and high-line Converse. Don't keep it for good, use it and love it! Happy Anniversary.

Be honest about your feelings (which I agree with) and go and get something without a silver undercarriage ...

arfishy · 21/04/2008 23:06

I like it. If you're not dressed like a wag you won't look like a wag.

The Queen wears burberry and doesn't look like a hooligan after all.

DirtySexyMummy · 21/04/2008 23:15

Sorry ladies, but thought this was a reasonably appropriate hijack

I am looking for a new handbag, I quite like one of the Mulberry ones but can't remember what its called.. I want black, leather, must have a long over the body strap but with shoulder straps as well. I like Balenciaga but won't get one as I think they are too 'WAG'ish, and I want one thats a bit more 'rock' than 'wag'.

If anyone has any suggestions, please fire them this way.

Thank you!

Artichokes - I like that bag your DH bought you.

Not really into bags, don't like it much.

Personally I would take something small and pretty from a jewellers over a hand bag any day of the week.

For £600, probably a beautiful bracelet.

I don't get the designer handbag thing though really. They do usually seem to look quite cheap, but I think that is because the cheap shops copy them straignht away I suppose.

JulesJules · 22/04/2008 13:35

Oh your DH - what a sweetie! Lucky you! I like the bag, without loving it, but it's not really that is it - he went out and bought you a beautiful extravagant present and it's made him happy because he thinks you love it. Unless you hate it, I would not exchange it - keep it, use it to death, and er, drop some subtle hints for next time.

FYIAD · 22/04/2008 13:37

the bag itself is ok

but I would be too ashamed to use a bag that costs 675

FYIAD · 22/04/2008 13:38

mind you I'd wear a coat that cost that much so I'll shut up now

katwith3kittens · 22/04/2008 13:42

Its lovely ... lovely colour too.

Use it eveyday its fab !

And everytime you look at it you;ll be reminded of your DH !

ninedragons · 22/04/2008 14:20

I love it (though if it were for my wardrobe I'd want it in the dark brown).

I think the fact that you're not usually GBP700 bag people means it's an even more touching gesture by your husband. He wanted to blow you away with how much he loves you, and you can't fault that.

marymungoandmidge · 22/04/2008 14:32

Mmmm can understand your dilemma ! I think he has put alot of thought into it - and its very kind and generous so be careful, but you shouldn't keep something you frankly wont use (or you don't really like and just isn't you)- so ask him if he wouldnt mind you changing it - maybe for another colour (agree my first choice would be dark brown);I would explain that a white bag like that isn't actually that practical and wont last more than one season. Maybe one of the beautiful new Mulberrys in the softest leather which you could keep for years would be a bit more up your street ? Anyway congratulations....
