I know its expensive, I know its "must have", I know she is a great designer... but I am not sure I like my new bag

DH bought it for me as a present

What do you think?

Is it me, or does it look a bit, well, tacky?

TheFallenMadonna · 21/04/2008 19:01

Yes, use it.

DH once bought me a watch that I thought was a bit . Not my sort of thing I thought, There was no way I would tell him though, and he was right. I love it. And I love that he bought it too.

If you take it back and choose another one yourself, will it still feel like a present from him? Your first anniversary present?

MadameCh0let · 21/04/2008 19:01

That's a nice bag, but I could get a nicer one for half the price.

It's not bling or chav tho, so don't worry, it IS a nice bag, but so it should be!

Tutter · 21/04/2008 19:02

don't take it back

i did that with something dh got me once

felt awful about it ever since

artichokes · 21/04/2008 19:02

Aitch makes a good point about wearing it in. I am looking at it now and imagining it in a year's time, and I am liking it more. It is not that I don't like it now. It feels great, it smells great and it looks nice. Its just not what I would have chosen.

I think it would be too cruel to take it back. DH is so very proud of himself and he thinks I love it. He is beaming from ear to ear and looks so sweet.

keep it - you will grow to love it and he tried.

I like it, esp in grey.

Buda · 21/04/2008 19:07

He sounds like a lovely DH!

Happy anniversary.

I think it is a lovely bag. Yes it's expensive but he wanted you to have it.

Out of all the colours I like the brown the best.

AmazingAsRaisins · 21/04/2008 19:08

I like it, I think you should keep it and use it everyday and it will grow on you as you wear it in.

bettybeetroot · 21/04/2008 19:09

I like it but if you're not sure maybe you can change it for one you love? I love the colour too - grey looks great with most things. Not tacky at all - though I do think it depends on how/who is wearing it (ie anything posh spice wears looks tacky imo)

DarthVader · 21/04/2008 19:10

A nice bag if you dress to match ie cream outfit, make up and fancy hair, manicure etc

Wouldn't really work otherwise imo

Are you a high maintenance looking girl?

CeilingCat · 21/04/2008 19:10

Oh your sweet DH. Maybe you're feeling a bit meh about it because it is such a lot of money (unless you're really minted?). I'd find it hard to love any handbag enough to justify that sort of £££

FWIW it probably wouldn't have been my first choice of terribly expensive handbag, BUT if my DH had chosen it, that would make me love it IYKWIM?

It's certainly not an ugly bag, and it won't be bling as long as you don't dress WAGishly.

In fact it's growing on me the more I look at it. It's quite timeless really, and it will go with all sorts of outfits.

Yup, just had a final look and have decided that I am

Happy birthday!!

artichokes · 21/04/2008 19:16

Lol at the idea that I am high maintenance looking. My style is as far from high maintenance as possible. I wear mascara and powder and no other make-up.

And no we are not minted. Comfotable but not comforable enough to regularly spend near on £700 on a bag.

That is the thing. The bag is not really me and the price tag is not really us.

But I do LOVE DH for being so sweet and trying so hard and injecting a little glamour back into my life.

OofyProsser · 21/04/2008 19:17

What a lovely thing for your DH to do!

Tis OK but looks a bit formal for me - though I do have a Kelly in mid-brown croc that is so ancient and battered now that it can be used with suits or casual. I'm not sure this one will take a hammering with such grace.

And remember to put the bag well out of the way if you feel a wave of morning sickness reaching fruition.

DarthVader · 21/04/2008 19:18

Dress up to your new bag then, make his day!

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 21/04/2008 19:19

Beety

How the hell are you ?

How are your four wonderful children ??

MoreSpamThanGlam · 21/04/2008 19:20

I think its LOVELY mmm mmm mmmmmm

AitchTwoOhelicopterfraek · 21/04/2008 19:22

oh, now that i've looked at it in the grey i like it even more. use it every day, promise me. the bottom will scuff up beautifully if the leather's soft.

flowerybeanbag · 21/04/2008 19:26

I like it. Agree with Aitch, use it use it use it.

I have an embarrassingly expensive Marc Jacobs bag DH bought me a few years ago, and I used it virtually every day until I had DS, and still often do if I go out without him in tow. It's worn so well, is still beautifully soft and I don't put loose pens in to save the suede lining from leaky ink!

norkmaiden · 21/04/2008 19:26

Love it. Esp in the grey actually, looks like really beautiful bluish grey ...

What a fab dh btw! Enjoy your bag

morningglory · 21/04/2008 19:28

I think it is a great bag, but I don't think it will last more than one season.

If you aren't sure about the bag, why not exchange it for the Ebury or Carker bags, which are classics, so you will definitely get your money's worth, as well as timeless, beautiful, well=made bags.

Farb · 21/04/2008 19:30

Oh your Dh sounds lovely. What a star. You absolutely have to keep it, and use it.

I like it btw. I bet it smells really nice if you stick your head in and have a big long sniff.

DarthVader · 21/04/2008 19:33

I thought you had the cream one...I like the cream one more than the other colours as I am not sure what you would wear the grey one with?
