I know its expensive, I know its "must have", I know she is a great designer... but I am not sure I like my new bag

DH bought it for me as a present

What do you think?

Is it me, or does it look a bit, well, tacky?

Monkeybird · 21/04/2008 18:43

sell it on ebay. He won't notice

Moomin · 21/04/2008 18:43

No no no get him to take it back and have a week's holiday or car or summat else nice instead ([shock at ££££££££££££££££££££])

Typifies everything I hate about designer stuff - not the bag as such but the idea that "it's LuLu Baggins so even though it's horrid, it's 'must have". No offence to you artichoke. Get something GLORIOUS instead (although if you are sick you might want to ask him to save it til you're well enough to choose something yourself - like a fab weekend away)

WinkyWinkola · 21/04/2008 18:44

The bag is beautiful. But I only like it in cream. The silver trim looks out of sorts on the other colours.

Lucky you!

Tutter · 21/04/2008 18:44

i love it

he has good taste

claricebeansmum · 21/04/2008 18:45

I don't like it at all.
Seems a bit bling to me. And WAG-ish.
Don't like pastels and metal...

EmmyLou · 21/04/2008 18:46

What a lovely gesture though. Must admit looks a little Footballer's wives. I could just be jealous though...don't know if could live with the absurdity of spending so much on a vessel for everyday detritus.

Bet it feels wonderful though - is it all soft? Does it smell nice?

If I bought a bag at that price, would ensure that it was 'classic' and would last many years. Think the shiny bits would age/date the bag. Is there a version of the bag without the reflective bit at the bottom?

maidamess · 21/04/2008 18:47

I think it will get filthy. Suede lining? One broken Bic biro and it will be kapoot!

LadyMuck · 21/04/2008 18:47

Is it going to be your bag for this season only or is it going to have to last any longer. If the latter then I would try to swap if at all possible (where did he buy it?)

Brave bloke for buying a bag though!

TheFallenMadonna · 21/04/2008 18:48

I quite like it.

And given the circumstances I wouldn't dream of changing it...

I think it would only look tacky if the rest of you looked tacky, which I'm sure you don't. Dressed down, bling-wise, it would be fine.

AitchTwoOhelicopterfraek · 21/04/2008 18:50

i'd absolutely fuck it up by using it every day, the silver won't hold up forever. love a knackered bag, i do. i got a silver bottega veneta style bag years ago in france and got home and worried that it looked a bit glas vegas but it has aged beautifully. i use it all the time (and so it should, the amount it cost).
but if you won't use it all the time, take it back and swap it.

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 21/04/2008 18:50

It is rather splendid, but the metal bits let it down.

Happy anniversary, BTW.

edam · 21/04/2008 18:50

Aw, bless him, that's a lovely thing to do. Metallic bits/thought of 'we could have spent that on a HOLIDAY' would put me off a bit but ultimately I'd be jolly grateful that I had such a thoughtful dh.

2point4kids · 21/04/2008 18:51

How lovely of him.
I like it, dont love it though.

If you think he will be ok with you changing it then I'd swap it for a Mulberry one!

i really like it! especially in the grey

id use it every day

GrapefruitMoon · 21/04/2008 18:54

Mmm.... another one here who would have preferred a Mulberry. For that sort of money I'd want something that I would love and use for years. Think that one will look dated after a while... but, hey, it was a gift, so as long as you like it, does it matter?

luckylady74 · 21/04/2008 18:55

I love it and the thought. However, if you really don't like it then take it back and book into a spa with dh for when you sickness stops.

I like it too Bet it is better in teh flesh iykwim.grey would be gorgeous

bitofadramaqueen · 21/04/2008 18:55

It's an awful lot of money for something you're not 100% in love with... I'd try and find a gentle reason for exchanging it. There are plenty of gorgeous bags in that price range. Maybe suggest that the style/colour/fabric means that you'd only get limited use and you'd much rather have a something you can keep forever that goes with everything whatever the time of year?

nobodysfool · 21/04/2008 18:56

big brownie ponts for DH!!!
Not my bag though.....get it?
I couldn't imagine spending that kind of money on a bag especially a cream one!

JackieNo · 21/04/2008 18:57

I agree with Aitch - use it, and don't worry about keeping it for 'best'. it will probably wear well, And be more usable once you've used it. And maybe next year, in the run up to your anniversary, leave a copy of Vogue lying around with post-it notes marking the things you want.

YeahBut · 21/04/2008 19:00

Don't take it back. He'll be too terrified to buy you anything nice ever again if you do. And if you then complain that he never gets you anything nice, he'll say, "Well, I got you that posh expensive handbag and you didn't like it."
