Wedding guest panic dress too tight

spanieleyes22 · 13/08/2024 13:27

So I have a lovely dress for a wedding on sat but tried it on last night and it's v tight. The zip does do up with a lot of pulling but once it's up it feels very uncomfortable. I could wear it but with the heat as well it's goong to be an ordeal. Feel so stupid. Feel like I'm v bloated in the heat as scales is the same or a couple of pounds down. Had wanted to lose weight but didn't happen 🙈

I've ordered a couple of dresses from
Next that are coming tmw. Not sure if they will even fit though.

Had a thought - you know those satin skirts that are everywhere - I have one in white and I have a nice silky top in navy. Would that be ok do you think. It's a wedding in France. Due to be touching 30 degrees. But starts at 530 . I also have a black satin skirt and could look for a top to go with it. Wwyd. Thank you

The satin slip skirt might be a creased mess in a matter of minutes in the heat..

Skirt is like this off white colour

Do you think . Dress is polyester that's part of the problem. I tried it on last nite when it was still very hot and I was sweating buckets just getting it done up . Dresses that are coming are polyester too. Can't find a dressy dress in cotton

lol that's a terrible photo! Just basically short loose sleeves and a v neck

The white skirt with the navy top sounds nice but I'd be worried about wearing any plain white to a wedding

BobbyBiscuits · 13/08/2024 13:38

I'd steer away from the off white slip skirt. It's nice but too white and could be sweaty.
It's difficult to judge on the dress that's a little tight. If it looks good then could be worth bearing it. But just see what the new ones look like on.

spanieleyes22 · 13/08/2024 13:39

Yeh I know. Maybe I can find a silky top to go with the black skirt. If it's just a white skirt though not a whole outfit is it ok

Skirt is like this off white colour

Do not wear this to a wedding out of all the colours in the world

white satin is a bridal fabric and a navy top doesn’t offset it

AgathaMystery · 13/08/2024 13:40

M&S do cooling slips in all skin colours and 3 lengths. They are ESSENTIAL under these slip skirts. Make sure you grab one. Makes the skirt skim and float nicely and evens out bumps.

you can buy these skirts in all colours - but you know you can’t wear white or cream to a wedding, right?

spanieleyes22 · 13/08/2024 13:40

Dress looks ok when I'm standing still . Maybe I need to video myself moving in it . I feel so hot and bothered in it.

Ok. Thanks for that advice. I have a black one I'll see if I can find a top to go with it . My sister and aunt wore white/cream lace dresses to my sisters wedding!!!

Can't find a dressy dress in cotton

You should be able to find masses of cotton and linen dresses in the sales right now. Do you have a local Cos branch for instance? Anything plain can be made dressy with grooming / accessories / jewellery.

Yeh I know. I think I'm too fat for Cos. I could go to marks and Spencer and look. I keep thinking dresses are not dressy enough for evening but am probably overthinking it

I have to have sleeves. There's millions of lovely sleeveless dresses!!!!

Hope you can something suitable in M&S, also a simple /less dressy dress can be improved with accessories so look at their costume jewellery and scarves / belts etc

spanieleyes22 · 13/08/2024 14:00

I found a satin skirt in champagne colour so not white or cream would that be ok

Have a look on the John lewis website, they will have loads of suitable stuff and they do next day delivery, you can also click and collect to waitrose. They do phase eight, french connection, lots of nice weddingy brands.

Ted baker could also be worth a look, they are in trouble so the sale is great. They had a gorgeous silky skirt in a kind of rust colour reduced to £40 when I was last in there.

I think champagne is too similar to cream. It actually doesn't bother me, and I thought the cream skirt and navy top looked fine, but if other people don't I probably wouldn't risk it as you'll spend the day wondering if people think you're wearing too much white.

Are you the poster who posted about keeping g cool at a wedding in Bordeaux?

If so you will suffocate in satin polyester!

Cool and loose

Tesco had some nice plain fitting double clothe dresses knit. Shirred top and spaghetti satrap and I know you do r want spaghetti straps but...

I'm in north Italy and the heat is extra hot.

I think the navy top and champagne skirt sounds nice. Stop panicking! If you don't find anything else you like, you can definitely wear that.

If it helps you find something else suitable among what you already have - black is OK for a wedding in France (of course depends if the bride and groom are British!).
