Wedding guest panic dress too tight

So I have a lovely dress for a wedding on sat but tried it on last night and it's v tight. The zip does do up with a lot of pulling but once it's up it feels very uncomfortable. I could wear it but with the heat as well it's goong to be an ordeal. Feel so stupid. Feel like I'm v bloated in the heat as scales is the same or a couple of pounds down. Had wanted to lose weight but didn't happen 🙈

I've ordered a couple of dresses from
Next that are coming tmw. Not sure if they will even fit though.

Had a thought - you know those satin skirts that are everywhere - I have one in white and I have a nice silky top in navy. Would that be ok do you think. It's a wedding in France. Due to be touching 30 degrees. But starts at 530 . I also have a black satin skirt and could look for a top to go with it. Wwyd. Thank you

Looks lovely OP! I think the right level of formality but also looks like you feel comfortable. Fits very nicely.

SouthgatesWaistcoat · 14/08/2024 23:09

You look lovely in that dress OP, great choice! Enjoy the wedding!

Go to marks and Spencer, they have lots of comfortable dressy enough options, pick something floaty, decent fabric and comfortable, you can wear nice jewellery, a statement lipstick to add a dressy look but just go for simple and comfortable, you're going to be miserable and sweaty if you wear something more glamorous and won't feel like you look good anyway so it's pointless. I sweat a lot and if this was me I'd also be choosing something it won't show up in. France is all paired back glam. Also wear your hair up. I am just back from France and my sunglasses even made my face sweat 😅

Too late, OP flies tomorrow and has a great dress if you look at her updates

Ah thank you for the advice. Marks was a bit denuded the other night when I was there but I'm happy now! Might ask at the airport for a statement lip🤣you're right though I was over complicating things. Have been practicing curling my hair a little tho in the humidity who knows. Feeling a lot happier now though . I'll give you updates if you like lol

You look lovely. Honestly.

if you find an Accessorize in the airport, grab a wrap and clutch and necklace. If you don’t, you still look absolutely lovely. Enjoy the wedding x

Dress looks ok when I'm standing still . Maybe I need to video myself moving in it . I feel so hot and bothered in it.

If you feel hot and bothered just trying it on do not try to wear it to the wedding. You'll be miserable and probably split the zip when you try to, you know, move.

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 15/08/2024 06:18

I've been watching from the sidelines. Absolutely love this dress! Really suits you. Have a wonderful time

GreenPoppy · 15/08/2024 06:32

You look great, good choice!

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 15/08/2024 06:43

That's a lovely dress and you look lovely in it x Have a great time.

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 15/08/2024 07:02

I've rtft waiting hoping you'd find a dress and post a photo 😄
That dress is perfect, you look lovely.
There's usually an Accessorise in airports, nip in there and look for some jewellery, I actually like the colour of the wrap, some gold jewelry would set it off, not too much as there's plenty going on with the dress, maybe a thin necklace, earrings and a bracelet or just some earrings.
Is your hair long enough to clip up, I'd buy a nice hair clip, I think you'd be glad to have your hair off your neck when it's hot and humid.
Enjoy your wedding, you did a really good job getting a dress in that short timeframe

DailyEnergyCrisis · 15/08/2024 09:02

Looks gorgeous! Really glad it worked out. Think it’s a dress you’ll be able to wear again and again. Have fun!

NancyBellaDonna · 15/08/2024 11:28

The navy dress is lovely.

Swearwolf · 15/08/2024 11:47

Just leaping in to say how delighted I am with your update - I could feel your stress coming through the screen! The dress looks absolutely lovely, and you look comfortable in it too which I always think makes you look even better. Hope you have an excellent time!

ScrollingLeaves · 17/08/2024 11:24

Is today the wedding in France? Have a lovely time. You will look beautiful.

Angelil · 17/08/2024 18:05

Weddings in France must take place in the mairie (town hall) to be legal. So with a 5.40pm start, what you are attending is certainly not a wedding with any legal weight; rather, it’s a jumped-up party. Does that help to take some of the pressure off?

Ladymeade · 17/08/2024 18:18

Depending on the style - satin can be a nightmare for showing every lump and bump....

Jeannie88 · 17/08/2024 19:09

Go back to your faves, add some accessories...you will be comfortable and happy! We worry about these things, then when an hour in wish we had worn something that didn't suck is in, heels that leave us hobbling. Men don't generally have these concerns, we should follow suit, excuse the pun. X

The OP won’t be answering as the wedding is today.

Of course the wedding is real by the way.

You're only a guest. It doesn't matter. Nobody will care or remember what you wore.

Look on house of Fraser website and asos!! Next day delivery available and cater for everyone 😊

spanieleyes22 · 13/08/2024 14:00

I found a satin skirt in champagne colour so not white or cream would that be ok

You could wear the white one. Wearing a navy top with it- you wouldn’t look remotely bridal!

TheFormidableMrsC · 17/08/2024 23:59

Ffs. I wish people would RTFT.

ScrollingLeaves · 18/08/2024 02:05

I hope the OP comes back to let us know how the wedding went. She certainly looked lovely in that dress she chose.

Agreed! I’m invested in this.

Dontshootthemessengers · 18/08/2024 13:16

have you looked at One Hundred Stars? I wore one of their kimono dresses for a birthday party in France last week and it felt cool and airy (was 25oC at midnight!!)
