Wedding guest panic dress too tight

So I have a lovely dress for a wedding on sat but tried it on last night and it's v tight. The zip does do up with a lot of pulling but once it's up it feels very uncomfortable. I could wear it but with the heat as well it's goong to be an ordeal. Feel so stupid. Feel like I'm v bloated in the heat as scales is the same or a couple of pounds down. Had wanted to lose weight but didn't happen 🙈

I've ordered a couple of dresses from
Next that are coming tmw. Not sure if they will even fit though.

Had a thought - you know those satin skirts that are everywhere - I have one in white and I have a nice silky top in navy. Would that be ok do you think. It's a wedding in France. Due to be touching 30 degrees. But starts at 530 . I also have a black satin skirt and could look for a top to go with it. Wwyd. Thank you

The navy geometric one is perfect. Cool, smart, perfect for a wedding.

ScrollingLeaves · 14/08/2024 11:55

I still like the blue and white geometric one the best. The pattern is simple and strong.
It would look nice with your silver sandals.
It will look cool, airy and gracious.

Can you bring the dress to alterations to be let out a bit ? I had a wedding last week wore a jumpsuit. Tried it on on weekend before and was tight across belly - zipped up but if moved was uncomfortable. Brough it to alterations she was able to let out the belly part put a small panel each side in same colour ( you didn't even notice it) and the jumpsuit was so more better after that

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 14/08/2024 12:18

Yes that one.

Dress looks ok when I'm standing still . Maybe I need to video myself moving in it . I feel so hot and bothered in it.

If it's polyester you will swelter in it! I don't agree with other posters re the navy top with white skirt. It looks classy and not bridal in any way at all.

I found a satin skirt in champagne colour so not white or cream would that be ok

IMO test that would look fine (better than white) and looks great with navy.

SaintHonoria · 14/08/2024 12:35

Get something loose that drapes if you're a plus size and suffer with the heat.

This is cheap as chips and won't crease

Anything ' satin ' is a synthetic material, you will be hot in those materials. You want to stick to cotton and linen etc.

TheFormidableMrsC · 14/08/2024 12:54

You need something in viscose, not polyester. Much more comfortable and cool and not sweaty.

I’ve got my fingers crossed for the navy dress from Next… hope it fits OP.
Have a lovely time 😊

NonsuchCastle · 14/08/2024 13:36

Don't wear the tight dress - you will feel terrible.

The skirt is lovely - wear that but not with a white top!

NonsuchCastle · 14/08/2024 13:37

spanieleyes22 · 13/08/2024 13:39

Yeh I know. Maybe I can find a silky top to go with the black skirt. If it's just a white skirt though not a whole outfit is it ok

Yes, it's ok just the white skirt, no white top. No probs.

GlassBellJar · 14/08/2024 14:51

I wore this one from M&S to a very hot sunny wedding recently, it was lovely and cool and swishy and draped beautifully (I am a 14). I wore with navy heels and I felt really elegant in it and had a lot of compliments.

I did have to safety pin the front as I have big boobs and find I have to do that with all wrap dresses. It's like a fine woven/crepe style viscose so not sweaty to wear at all. I did actually size down to a 12 as there was still ample fabric and the 14 was too big.

I have to say that the breeze under it was lovely and I did feel sorry for those who were sweating in polyester. I get hot really easily but wasn't at all in this.

You can't go wrong with the cotton navy dress in broderie anglais from Next.

Please don't wear satin or polyester. You will be so hot and uncomfortable and sweaty satin is just not chic.

spanieleyes22 · 13/08/2024 13:29

Skirt is like this off white colour

Why are you wearing white/off white to a wedding?

LivelyBlake · 14/08/2024 18:02

Why are you wearing white/off white to a wedding?

1.the idea was navy top and cream skirt. Not white
2.read the thread. The OP is looking at cotton dresses now

manywanderings · 14/08/2024 19:41

Agree cotton is cooler for summer in France. How about this one from Seasalt (Bamboo and cotton). It's in the sale for £37.95! Although only available in size 8 and size 12.

Actually that's jersey sorry. But I can recommend this! Bought it this summer - technically it's a jumpsuit/culottes but it looks like a dress when it's on. Lovely cool cotton and looks much smarter than on the picture. Halter neck but you could wear a cardigan or jacket maybe.

The Op really doesn't have time for any more online shopping - she departs tomorrow.
Hopefully she returns to us and says the navy and white dress in M&S was still there and she bought it after work today.
