Wedding guest panic dress too tight

So I have a lovely dress for a wedding on sat but tried it on last night and it's v tight. The zip does do up with a lot of pulling but once it's up it feels very uncomfortable. I could wear it but with the heat as well it's goong to be an ordeal. Feel so stupid. Feel like I'm v bloated in the heat as scales is the same or a couple of pounds down. Had wanted to lose weight but didn't happen 🙈

I've ordered a couple of dresses from
Next that are coming tmw. Not sure if they will even fit though.

Had a thought - you know those satin skirts that are everywhere - I have one in white and I have a nice silky top in navy. Would that be ok do you think. It's a wedding in France. Due to be touching 30 degrees. But starts at 530 . I also have a black satin skirt and could look for a top to go with it. Wwyd. Thank you

I think the navy top and champagne skirt sounds nice. Stop panicking! If you don't find anything else you like, you can definitely wear that.

If it helps you find something else suitable among what you already have - black is OK for a wedding in France (of course depends if the bride and groom are British!).

Bride French... should I go to m and s on way home from work . People wear black and white to a wedding so I thought navy and cream ok...???

What size and what budget @spanieleyes22 ?
I loooove looking at frocks, I'll have a go.
Cotton or linen, with sleeves but cool, dressy enough for a wedding is that the brief? Any particular colours you like? Do you actually mean long sleeves or just not sleeveless?

Hey @heldinadream and I'm leaving on Thursday! Have had months to find something 🙈size 18 or 20 if small fitting . Budget up to 70. Short sleeves ok! Just not strappy or sleeveless . Think I'll try m and a tonight. Am better at finding things online but needs must!

If you've seen loads of sleeveless dresses you love why not get a light floaty or chiffony wrap to go over your arms in a corresponding colour? You would still be cool but arms covered if it's your arms you don't want to show. I wear loads on holiday in the evenings and it's still hot

heldinadream · 13/08/2024 14:58

Online only from M&S but in the sale in your sizes and linen and viscose blend.

Do you think? I bought a lovely cover up to go with the too small dress . I just hate my arms they are huge

Ah thank you @heldinadream I like the look of those. Think I will head to marks after work. If still no luck will fall back on satiny skirt

I wouldn't wear a satin dark satin top, if you get hot, you'll have sweat stains. Not a good look.

SouthgatesWaistcoat · 13/08/2024 15:13

I'm just back from southern Europe and can reliably say that you will BOIL in satin and be a sweaty mess in minutes. It was so hot and humid there!

Definitely take a leaf out of the locals's book and go for lightweight cotton or linen fabrics.

Even at a wedding? I don't think the bride will wear cotton or linen

Ah great- there’s loads more choice of styles, colours and sizes on the pour moi website directly if you like that kind of look.

AgathaMystery · 13/08/2024 15:54

Gosh the navy one is stunning. I would wear with coral or orange wedge heels - like a raffia wedge and a raffia bag. I know orange is a total marmite colour but that combo always looks so fresh and summery to me. I hope you have a lovely time - and if you get chance do get the cooling slip. It’s like a weird synthetic smooth fabric. Seems counterintuitive to add a layer but it really works I promise.

Yes am tempted to get orange but I have silver sandals bought to go with the other dress... I really hope it fits ok

Yes go to the store too. I think they have some nice stuff in at moment, even if it’s a back up plan.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 13/08/2024 18:53

Love the navy dress! Silver goes with everything, you will look great.

ButterCrackers · 13/08/2024 18:56

Go with the satin outfit that you already have as it will keep you cooler in the heat.

I found a satin skirt in champagne colour so not white or cream would that be ok

Satin look skirts, dresses & tops are so unforgiving even if like a rake. The fact they crush like crazy is also off-putting,at least for me but it's all about individual taste &what people feel comfortable in OP

Bluescapes9 · 13/08/2024 20:54

Just noticed update about navy dress, just lovely 😍
