Wedding guest panic dress too tight

So I have a lovely dress for a wedding on sat but tried it on last night and it's v tight. The zip does do up with a lot of pulling but once it's up it feels very uncomfortable. I could wear it but with the heat as well it's goong to be an ordeal. Feel so stupid. Feel like I'm v bloated in the heat as scales is the same or a couple of pounds down. Had wanted to lose weight but didn't happen 🙈

I've ordered a couple of dresses from
Next that are coming tmw. Not sure if they will even fit though.

Had a thought - you know those satin skirts that are everywhere - I have one in white and I have a nice silky top in navy. Would that be ok do you think. It's a wedding in France. Due to be touching 30 degrees. But starts at 530 . I also have a black satin skirt and could look for a top to go with it. Wwyd. Thank you

I love the third dress (darker blue one with white pattern), I think that would be perfect for a summer wedding in France.

But don’t worry too much about what you’re wearing, as long as you’re comfortable - the bride and groom should just be happy that you’ve made the effort to come to their wedding!

Sorry, I think those 3 you've just posted look too casual for a wedding.

What about Asos?

This dress is nice. The pink is a bit pepto bismol, but the green or navy are nice

Edited

I know . I think I'm too late for online . Leave on Thurs 🙈I like that one though! Everything crossed that the next one fits

It's hard to get a cotton or linen dress that is dressy I found. Have 2 others coming from next but they plyester so back to the same problem

I like the olive green one you tried, if that colour works well for you. I concur with others about avoiding polyester especially if you aren't used to the heat. I hope you find something you feel great in and you really enjoy yourself!

What size and what budget @spanieleyes22 ?
I loooove looking at frocks, I'll have a go.
Cotton or linen, with sleeves but cool, dressy enough for a wedding is that the brief? Any particular colours you like? Do you actually mean long sleeves or just not sleeveless?

I think navy and cream is fine. It’s all cream or all white satin that is too bridal. I am a stickler for wedding and funeral etiquette but I think it’s acceptable. ( My Mil wore cream /ecru to my wedding actually and looked lovely, not inappropriate, so even that can work sometimes).

I like the olive green or third blue one, add some nice shoes and you will look fabulous.

Having looked at these again I think the third one (dark blue and white pattern) looks good and will go with your silver shoes.

I agree - it’s lovely!!

If you're going to a wedding in France please don't wear a satin shirt and top. Honestly you'll feel frumpy and waitress like. There are tons on dresses in the shops at the moment, even off you have to resort to M&s I'm sure you can find something pretty that will make you feel special. Get yourself out to the shop and try on quite a few. Ditch the satin skirts they will stick to you and look dowdy.

Ok you're right. There wasn't loads in the ships last night in my size though. In river island they were putting away all the summery sale stock🙈marks had some sale rails but very few in my size. Next the same. A lot of autumn stuff being put out. But thanks for the advice.

@spanieleyes22 I think the third one you tried on in M&S, the navy one with the strong geometric pattern, looks really nice on you and is wedding suitable. Other people have also said above that they like that one on you. How much was it? Can you go back for it today in case the one coming (have you ordered one or more than one, I'm not sure?) is no good?

spanieleyes22 · 14/08/2024 09:30

Ah thanks. I'm holding out for one that supposed to be delivered to the next store by 1pm. Picked out by one of you guys! So if that doesn't fit I'll go to mRks and get the geometric one. Thanks so much you all

This is nice and is a cotton blend. Can do next day click and collect from John Lewis to any Waitrose.

Magnoliame · 14/08/2024 11:12

Sorry I meant it’s a linen blend.
Also, this is lovely in pale pink and very wedding guest style I think.

I like the green dress. Not the navy.

JaimeParis · 14/08/2024 11:33

Yes I prefer the green one out of the two. I also liked the blue geometric one.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 14/08/2024 11:34

Go back to M&S and buy the navy and white one.

Magnoliame · 14/08/2024 11:36

I think the green one is fine. Dress it up with jewellery and nice shoes and have a fabulous time!

LittleBearPad · 14/08/2024 11:50

I like the blue geometric one best, then the green if you don't want to go to Marks.

DBD1975 · 14/08/2024 11:52

Could you not just return the dress you bought and get the next size up? If this is not an option buy the next size up and sell the dress you have which doesn't fit on eBay to offset the expense.
