New thread. Woke (blooming cat) to find it’s nearly full.

Ha ha @IlovePond - enjoying hearing about your travels (and bandana saga).

IlovePond · 22/10/2024 02:32

Thanks @Stoic123 and @ScottishMouse - I shall practise my scarf tying in the morning. I am trying, but failing, not to buy things 🙀

Snowyowl78 · 22/10/2024 18:19

Did anyone get the Mayflies silk shirt in the sale? It’s amazing. I feel like I should keep it in a glass box for display purposes only though. I was going to take a chance and handwash it, but looking at it in real life I think I may have to succumb to dry cleaning! It’s so lovely. More of a summer shirt though I think. I think it will look great with denim.

IlovePond · 22/10/2024 19:47

It’s beautiful @Snowyowl78 - I saw it and didn’t even dare to touch it🙀

IlovePond · 22/10/2024 19:48

Meanwhile, it looks like I’m keeping the woolly orange beastie as I sort of wore it by accident today as my neck was cold😹

faustina · 22/10/2024 19:56

@IlovePond - that looks amazing on you! I really REALLY don't need another scarf but I now have scarf envy. Will have to sit on my hands!

Snowyowl78 · 22/10/2024 19:57

That looks great @IlovePond - is it warm?

I’m sure I’ll chuck red wine/chocolate all over the mayflies as soon as I put it on

IlovePond · 22/10/2024 19:59

Thanks @faustina and @Snowyowl78 - it is actually really cosy and not bulky if tied properly. I think the secret is to only single tie it, (and hope not to lose it…)

I like the fact it’s made in the UK, btw.

@Snowyowl78 - don’t even say it - that shirt is a work of art!!

Stoic123 · 22/10/2024 20:22

@IlovePond - ah, that looks much nicer than I expected.

IlovePond · 22/10/2024 20:31

Thanks @Stoic123 - it was the girl in Harrogate who suggested not double knotting it, and it became a whole new wearable item!

ScottishMouse · 22/10/2024 21:17

Looks great @IlovePond. Yes, single tying it is the key. It took me a while to figure that out. It does seem to stay on like that though. I have quite a few wool bandanas - two from Jo Gordon and two from a local boutique (although those are cashmere and the moths absolutely destroyed them) - but the Toast one is a better size and the texture makes it drape better too.

IlovePond · 22/10/2024 21:19

Aah moths@ScottishMouse -I hate them!

ScottishMouse · 22/10/2024 21:23

Me too @IlovePond. We had a really bad infestation the last 6 months or so. They destroyed those two scarves and a couple of DH’s suits. I spent weeks freezing things, and then I resorted to the parasitic wasps, which - touching wood here - seem to have pretty much sorted the problem. I have gone from seeing about 5-10 a day in my bedroom to seeing maybe 1 every 3-4 weeks. My moth killing reflexes are excellent these days.

OftenOrange · 22/10/2024 21:30

@IlovePond Yes! It looks terrific on you.
@Snowyowl78 I can only imagine the beauty IRL, it’s a work of art from what we saw online.
I do think ,and try to remind myself, that by far my most treasured sale buys have been these more unusual expensive standout pieces ,in my case the Patchwork blue jacket and the embroidered olive brown skirt from last year .
I missed out on the embroidered Kaftan dress in black because it was too big and think how I should have loved owning it .

BTW I noticed a couple of their beautiful embroidered tops from last yr on EBay for £49.99 each , size L

We had moths once. We had to rip out a whole house of only 3 year old 100% wool carpets. I would never have wool carpets again. They were a nightmare to get rid of. Ever since then, all of my wool/cashmere clothing has lived in zip lock bags in my drawers.

ScottishMouse · 22/10/2024 22:37

@netcam ziplock bags saved all my knitwear apart from the two scarves I had foolishly left out. Thankfully we don’t have carpets anywhere, that sounds an absolute nightmare.

IlovePond · 22/10/2024 23:08

Thanks @OftenOrange - I am glad I bought it now.

Re: Moths - I try to remember to keep everything ziplocked but it’s hard. (We wanted to rip up the landing carpet and that on the stairs, but DH wants to put flooring down himself and can’t work out how to do the seam between stairs and landing🙀)

DH put engineered wood flooring everywhere apart from landing and stairs. We had that issue too after ripping out all of the nearly new wool carpets. We eventually had synthetic carpet put down on stairs and landing.

Snowyowl78 · 23/10/2024 07:06

@OftenOrange it is amazing, the material is sort of oyster- pearl type silk. I actually think it would look good with shorts in the summer. It was wasn’t discounted enough in my opinion.
sometimes that kaftan dress appears on resale sites, not sure what size you’re looking for but there was one on eBay the other day (I am a stalker of Toast on second hand sites!)

My wool jumper drawer and wool t-shirts shelf hanger in the wardrobe. There are more drawers for wool leggings, wool dresses and skirts, wool long sleeved tops, wool trousers, wool bras! I wear a lot of wool.

@Netcam Oh that is glorious! Both the wondrous selection (another wool lover here), and the steadfast care warding off the ravenous wee beasties 😍

That was just the wardrobe, here's a chest of drawers. Top: wool tights, wool bras, next down: wool and cotton leggings, next down: wool trousers, next down: wool dresses. Bottom drawer under those is DH's stuff.

Ohhh 😍 Well now I'm in danger of teetering from vicarious enjoyment into outright envy! So much gorgeousness. I admire the self-discipline to keep it all bagged up, because the sheer joy of rummaging through all that soft snuggly wool, naked ...

OftenOrange · 23/10/2024 12:04

@Netcam My envy is for the lavish amount of wardrobe and storage space , I am 💚

Rosescountrylifecottage · 23/10/2024 12:18

Parasitic wasps? Do you buy them and release them into the wardrobe how does that work?

I’ve only had about two maybe three moth holes in maybe 15 yrs . It’s a scary thought
