I think there was one a few months/weeks back but can't find it, so apologies if doubling up.
What perfume are you wearing today?
I will wear Atelier Cologne Trefle Pur in hope it will actually be warm today.

I’ve also just discovered Tom Ford metallique and it is beautiful!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/10/2024 15:06

I'm wearing VC&A First, from a bottle that must be 30 years old. It still packs quite a wallop (in a good way).

Portrait of a Lady. It really reminds me of another fragrance but I don’t know what! It’s very strong

Agree it's so strong and to my nose nostalgic/retro vibe. It's so highly rated I am not sure I get why

QueefofSheena · 21/10/2024 16:46

@Mian I know exactly what you mean. I just wish I could remember what it reminds me of. I want to say it’s an aftershave

I have a sample of BDK Vanilla leather - my vanilla loving teenage DD likes it. It's a perfectly nice smokey vanilla with a warm cosy dry down. It's like a heavy vanilla custard rather than a light and fluffy vanilla cookie.

SOTD for me is Aziyade from Parfum D'Empire. It has a sparkling fizzy opening with a spicy floral dry down. Fragrantica reviewers talk about Coca cola and cumin/BO. The cumin note isn't strong on my skin. It's a sparkling perfume - sunlight through waving leaves feel to it. It seems floral without any flowers just spices.

Ok, I'm revising my opinion, I resprayed and this time I'm getting the cumin note. It's an intriguing scent and definitely unisex. It would smell fantastic on the right man, it would turn a frog into a prince on the right day!

I stand by my initial opinion that it is a sparkling perfume, despite the cumin and spice it is not heavy at all. So far the €20 I paid for the five samples has been very rewarding.

I think fragrance advent calendars are just best shared. Particularly the braver like Harrods or Harvey Nicks. It is hard to imagine someone loving every scent or even half of the scents in advent, so it's either share or sell/gift some of it.

Trying Rendez-Vous Chez Harrods Montale tonight. I this this is the first ever fragrance with detectable oud I like, but my son loves this type of perfumes and I will give it to him.

Where did you get the samples from @TheLongRider. Sounds like good deal

TheLongRider · 21/10/2024 18:15

@MiaN I bought them directly from the perfumer Samples It helps that I'm in the EU so no extra taxes. I first discovered the brand in a shop called Parfumarija in Dublin. She stocks some really great niche perfumes as well as some well known brands.

I know the store, I am in Ireland too!

TheLongRider · 21/10/2024 19:52

We should hold a meeting of the Irish Chapter of MN's perfumistas! Bring along any samples for a perfume swap.

tomorrow at 7am Space NK launch a fragrance GWP, spend £65, value is £96. There’s a lot in there. I’m still going through the Scent With Love kit and am quite new to them all so will leave it. Interested in your thoughts here on it. It looks quite good value to me.

Ooh thanks for the tip off

IDontHateRainbows · 22/10/2024 07:10

Back on the MM Autumn Vibes today but - excitement of excitements! My Byredo sampler set is due to arrive later. I've given hubby strict instructions to listen out for the delivery man, it's DPD so usually it's a 3 day wait for re delivery. I'm out for the day with the kids as it's half term so will (so long as hubby does his job) be there waiting for me when I get home.

I've also ordered the bottle of mumbai noise with the gift voucher which came with the set so that should be a couple of days behind.

MiaN · 22/10/2024 07:34

Penhaligon's Babylon. I am not interested in getting full bottle but will enjoy my travel.

MiaN · 22/10/2024 10:21

@BakeOffRewatch thanks for that, I ordered few sample sets! It is one of my biggest joys on days I am tired to come home after work, have bit of a home spa routine & bath & mask etc and try new perfume after.

The big byredo set was so much fun last year!

QueefofSheena · 22/10/2024 11:17

Thanks @BakeOffRewatch I ordered the Byredo set of 3 that I’ve had my eye on.

Today it’s Byredo, Bal d’Afrique. So far I love it, but I’ve only just applied it. I opened my fragrance AC and took out the 3 I was desperate to try. Some drawers had 2 items so I’ve spread them around.

MiaN · 22/10/2024 11:19

oh Bal D'Afrique is my most favourite perfume. I adore it!

I'll be sure to try my sample Bal D ,'Afrique when I get home. I can see myself just using up all the samples and not listing any at this rate!

evtheria · 22/10/2024 14:24

Agree, Bal d'Afrique is a lovely one to wear.

I'm in Another 13 today, even though I can't quite smell it properly with a blocked nose. Just did one small squirt, though, to be safe.

TheLongRider · 22/10/2024 15:40

Mal-Amié from Parfum d'Empire. A green scent based on unloved weeds. It's absolutely gorgeous and one of my favourite scents from these samples. It's like fresh cut grass that dries down to new mown hay. There's nothing I don't like about it.

IDontHateRainbows · 22/10/2024 16:42

The Byredo scent library has arrived, really quick delivery from abroad and you even get an email to tell you when it has passed customs! It u
Is a thing of beauty. I'd love to keep it all but need to sell x 20 or so to cover half the costs. With the 2 extra samples on both the sampler and the separate bottle ordered with the voucher that means 8 to keep, plus of course the big bottle.

Straight on with the bal D’Afrique. It's more citrussy than I thought it would be, maybe more of a spring or summer scent.

Eyes closed is next on the list..

Any Byredo fans I would recommend this if you have the dosh or were thinking of buying a full bottle.

MiaN · 23/10/2024 05:58

I had it last year, one of the best sample offers out there. I think if you love Mumbai Noise you probably like stronger perfumes then me - while I do like little umph during this time of the year I naturally gravitate towards soft & clean & fresh scents. Perfume is so personal, I am sorry you did not love the sample as much as do.

I had little spray of Penhaligon's The Favourite - it's pretty but didn't feel it's the right time of the year for it.

Going with Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit. This time of the year I like spraying a scarf so I can sniff it on my way or back from work and also escape from public transport aromas. I only have 5ml of this, maybe about 2.5 ml left and don't intent to rebuy this year, but could do with small bottle in the future.

MiaN · 23/10/2024 06:09

I would love if there is some sort of forum & meet ups or some sort of way to facilitate perfume swap. I have never sold anything online and not sure if it's for me - but I should look into some sort of way to let go of perfumes I don't need and ethier get something else or generating some cash for future purchases.

MiaN · 23/10/2024 07:13

It's actually 9ml bottle, enough to last me few years considering the limited time of the year I want to wear it and the amount of perfumes I have

Edited

I think i have become nose blind as mumbai noise doesn't smell really strong to me...more like entering a warm Cosy Indian Cafe and smelling the Chai!

Do you have any recommendations for other Byredos I may like as I'm keeping 8 of the samples for myself

Trying Eyes Closed once I get up... will update

Meet ups is a great idea if anyone is in the NW! I sell on ebay and its pretty easy once youve done it a few times. I just see what the product I want to sell is going for and copy the listing ( totally allowed!) and ensure I'm the lowest price. Very rarely have a problem with returns etc as buyers generally know what they are getting ( unlike clothing for example). But understand it's not for everyone.

It does enable me to buy the gift sets/ advent cals/ gwps and sell enough to partially or fully cover my costs so I have a personal stash for very little. I'm usually a 10ml size person, I rarely buy bigger bottles unless I fall in love so sample sets ideal for me.
