I think there was one a few months/weeks back but can't find it, so apologies if doubling up.
What perfume are you wearing today?
I will wear Atelier Cologne Trefle Pur in hope it will actually be warm today.

Byredo
Blache is very faint, clean laundry scent.
Mojave Ghost Is shampoo fresh, if you like chanel chance eau tandre you may like it. Favorite of mine I have bottle
Gypsy Water is popular but not sure I like it myself. Descibed as vanilla for people who don't like vanilla
La Tulipe is realistic tulip scent if you smell it in the garden with the stem. Very spring time scent, barely detectable not safe blind buy but I enjoyed it. I don't have bottle
Sundazed is fun summer citrus, sweet with little green notes at the start. I like it but not enough to buy bottle.

I have Bal D'Afrique and Mojave Ghost only and no plans as of now to get anything else

I may not good advise for you as I like mostly soft scents. I had long covid for years and after that when my sence off smell returned it returned with a bang.

IDontHateRainbows · 23/10/2024 08:35

Thanks, I do prefer the woody/ ambery scents this time of year especially. I'm very much a seasonal scent person.

Eyes closed: really like the concept of this with carrots and spices and it's nice but I'm not in love. I keep sniffing it to see whether I like it if that makes sense! Interesting scent.

Mohave Ghost and Gypsy Water on my list to try. I'm going to try and stick to just 8 to keep though so have to be selective!

Deathraystare · 23/10/2024 08:59

Back with my very favourite of all time .....Mitsouko!

MiaN · 23/10/2024 09:17

There are few stronger/ winter scents I like Lira, Lost Cherry, Angel's Share, Athalia, Ginger Buiscit but once it hits first of January I am ready for spring

Check Byredo Biblioteqe, Vanille Antique and Casablanca Lily for more wintery scent

QueefofSheena · 23/10/2024 09:35

Today’s for me is The Hedonist. First impressions are that it’s fresher than I thought, and more citrus. It may well change on me during the day.

@MiaN I prefer 10ml too unless I really love something. I had chemo a few years back, my taste and smell changed and I used to describe stronger perfumes as smelling like cooking or engine oil on me. That’s gone now, thankfully!

MiaN · 23/10/2024 11:05

They makes me little nervous as I don't know how my smell will be in 12 months. 10 ml is the way to go for anyone with over 30 perfumes

Love the chat here :)

Let me know how you get on with the Hedonist. My son took this one as we are sharing the advents this year and he loves it.

IDontHateRainbows · 23/10/2024 11:10

I tend to want to move on to the next thing quite quickly so 10ml is the ideal size for me. Too small (eg 2ml) and i just want more if I like it. Too big and it ends up sitting on my shelf in favour of a newer model!

MiaN · 23/10/2024 11:21

Do you also think that the sense of smell developes more if you get into testing different perfumes frequently?

QueefofSheena · 23/10/2024 12:09

I usually have a very strong sense of smell but I’m really only just starting to understand perfume notes etc. I’m surprised by some of the new ones I tried. Thameen Peregrina is a standout favourite but it’s totally different from my usual choice.

I’m really enjoying trying things that are outside my normal comfort zone. If I don’t use it then DH or the DS will. I had a large bottle of Moncler pour femme from the Flannels big cracker, and a small bottle last year. They went to one of my DS as it smells too masculine on me.

I seem to have gone 'nose blind' and spray myself liberally in the fragrance du jour, to the point we get the Alexa saying 'the air quality in your home recently changed to poor!'

Think it's supposed to be an early warning smoke detection system that doesn't like perfume!

But I seem to, like a drug addict, need a stronger and stronger dose!

I think people can train their noses to detect more within a scent, but whether it makes one have 'better taste' in perfumes is probably arguable. I definitely believe, however, that ever since having a kid (10+ yrs ago!!!) fragrances have sat on my skin differently and I had to get rid of most old faithfuls... They actually developed on me in different (and not good) ways 😩

MiaN · 23/10/2024 14:41

I think my sence of smell has increased and I can smell all the things stronger not only perfumes. Like public transport for example it reminds me of being pregnant. And I am not :)

Re better taste I feel they're is no such thing. If I love Bal D'Afrique and you love Mumbai Noise neither of us is better we just have different taste. It's so personal

IDontHateRainbows · 23/10/2024 15:59

It's crazy how different tastes are when it comes to scent. Not just the nose of tye beholder but can smell differently on different skin too! The one reason I'd never gift a perfume, only a sample/ trial set.

My daughter and I have completely different tastes, she says yuk to a lot of my although although she loves trying mummy's new additionsn

MiaN · 23/10/2024 16:39

The advents have been phenomenally well received in our house as we had 3 fragrance advent calendars shared 3 way and only one perfume is wanted by everyone. I regret being nice and giving it to my son, it's sooo good! Only two are not wanted by anyone as well and luckily they are 5ml and 7ml only. We opened Penhaligons and Harvey Nichols in full and slowly going through Harrods.

It's also strange how two people can smell same pefume and actually smell different thing.

Ginger Biscuit is going strong 11 hours later on my clothes, enjoying it

MiaN · 23/10/2024 17:55

My Space Nk order arrived. Sana Jardin and Replica sample set to get the GWP. Such quick delivery! Dessert Down the new Byredo is soooo good, I wasn't expected it.

hughiedoesntfight · 23/10/2024 18:11

Today I was testing out commodity milk bold. My day to day perfume is Burberry goddess which gets loads of compliments. So I was interested to see if this got any and it did.

I think it’s going to be my next full size purchase. I have an empty slot on my perfume rack to fill 😆

MiaN · 23/10/2024 18:31

hm, not sure now if I have lingering ginger biscuit and I like the mix of both vs desert down by itself.

Did you sample the 3 milk? I have the Milk personal. I was listening to an interview with the guy that is the current owner and he explained that the personal vs expressive vs plus is not actually % strength. They are using different notes in each to create the different result and in milk they have same opening and middle but different base note. Great concept.

I have smelled all 3 before. And all 3 of the Gold. You can tell the difference between the 3 different versions, of each one imo. Not completely different, but different enough you can tell. The personal milk is quite nice. But the bold are my favourites in both milk and gold.

I am a prolific sampler. And put it through a few tests before I buy a full size 😂

👋 everyone I’ve followed some here from the advent calendar thread. I love this thread and how open it is.

I’m pretty tempted by by the byredo grande set- seems like a bargain if like me, you were considering a full bottle. I spent a while in the shop in London smelling everything and liked a lot of it- I’m generally pretty open with fragrance.

I was looking at a few other discoveries (vyrao, MM, possibly even the space nk fragrance gwp). I do have the HN fragrance calendar to share with DH. Thanks@MiaN for some of your recommendations on that.

any thoughts on good discovery sets? Shall I just get the byredo one? I do have some liberty beauty drop vouchers but not fussed on using those

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 23/10/2024 20:21

Modern muse Estée Lauder. It was the only one in my bag at the time.

MiaN · 24/10/2024 05:39

Wood sage and sea salt as I have face to face meeting in the office. I may bring one of my samples to try on the afternoons when meeting is over.

I will try to think of what sample sets I have tried and share comment later.

The byredo set is a thing of beauty and you won't regret buying it. Really quick delivery from France too. Think it's limited edition though so don't dither too long or it may sell out!
I am going to try Desert Dawn today.

The big bottle I used the voucher for arrived yesterday so I've spritzer myself liberally in that last night, but whilst I love it I also want to try some samples.

IDontHateRainbows · 24/10/2024 10:31

Byredo Desert Dawn is on, and it's a yes fron me. Daughter also likes it, usually we have different tastes. Not sure how to describe it, subtly sweet and a hint of warm spice. I'm not great at describing these things , but the nose likes it.

MiaN · 24/10/2024 10:43

It's strange one isn't it? It's how I imagine a hot desert sand smells like it but it is sooo smooth
