Should I I keep this dress? Help me decide!

I bought this dress online from Me and Em about two weeks ago so I need to decide soon if I should keep it. I can't decide!!! I like it on me-the colours suit me and my chest area is awful (skinny, flat chested and uneven skin tone) so it's good this dress hides that area. But is it frumpy?
I really don't know any more. It's not for anywhere special, maybe wearing on holiday or out for dinner. Tell me straight if I should send it back please!

The blue dress looks fine, @pharmachameleon - but surely fulfills a slightly different purpose?

Anyway … Look! [ Please note that whatever you as a reader feel about prices the OP has said she is perfectly easy about this price point.]

Isn’t this your original dress, perfected? More sophisticated, more crafted, more - wow?

This dress is SO LOVELY!

I actually have this dress, it so so much nicer and cooler in real life! I’m much bigger than the op ( size 16) and short with a fairly large chest and it still looks great on me! I think that is what you get for your money with this dress, a good flattering fit! I’m actually wearing it to a formal event and actually feel fabulous for the first time in ages , I tried on loads of dresses but this one was by far and away the most flattering! I think the problem is that the website photo makes it look dull and un appealing but when you try it on you totally get it!! Worth every penny imo!!

pharmachameleon · 23/05/2024 06:18

@Whydoiwearsomuchleopardprint I agree the photos really don't do the dress justice. It feels like amazing quality. Glad you have it and love it. I may order it again and think on it some more!

It's not frumpy. If I had to choose a pejorative for it it would be "prissy" or "fussy". I don't hate it though. I bet it would look good on some people.

Those saying "you can get this for 50p in a supermarket" should at least look at the information about ethical trade and sustainability on the Me and Em site. When you buy your super!cheap! supermarket clothes someone gets shafted somewhere along the line, even if it's not you. Fair enough some people are broke, but that doesn't mean that one's own pocket is the only consideration.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/05/2024 09:27

Agreed.
And it's 2/3 shrine viscose

And they say 'intelligently imbued with viscose'. Fabrics can't be imbued. Or intelligent.
The piping down the side is horrid, try hard, silly.

I've tried it on again and tried a tan belt. Hmmm.

I love it (am also quite flat of chest). If you keep it and then decide to ebay it let me know!

pharmachameleon · 23/05/2024 14:01

@TorroFerney I've sent it back! I think I might keep an eye out for it going into the sale and if it does I'll maybe buy it.

If you are not sure or undecided then NO!

Send it back. For that money it has be something you can wear a lot.
Not just that 'funny little dress' that you MIGHT find an occasion for.

Trust me. If you are not sure then there's probably nicer things out there.

There are limited options for that dress. There are more situations you can't wear it to than situations you can wear it to.

You wouldn't wear it out to dinner in autumn at night for example.

Oodiks · 23/05/2024 18:53

I couldn't keep a dress that cost that much unless I abso-fucking-lutely loved it.

TakeThePain · 23/05/2024 20:02

The blue Vinted is gorgeous!

pharmachameleon · 23/05/2024 20:06

Do you think so @TakeThePain? I can't wait for it to arrive and try it on. I love Rixo dresses.

If you're not 100% sure then send it back but don't wait too long though

TinyBag · 24/05/2024 08:13

I think it’s lovely, really pretty and you should keep it !

JustCleaningtheBBQ · 24/05/2024 19:36

@pharmachameleon currently being worn by Sophie Raworth on The RHS Flower Show BBC 1

Bimblesalong · 24/05/2024 19:36

Sophie Rayworth is wearing it on bbc coverage of Chelsea and it looks lovely.

Bimblesalong · 24/05/2024 19:37

Haha! @JustCleaningtheBBQ 😁

foxgl4ve · 24/05/2024 19:39

The presenter on the chelsea flower show, Sophie Raworth, is wearing that dress! On now.

foxgl4ve · 24/05/2024 19:39

Late to the party! Looks very nice.

Bimblesalong · 24/05/2024 19:47

I want it now 🤣🤣🤣. Bought a beautiful one from Hobbs instead though.

Riverlee · 24/05/2024 19:58

The presenter on The Chelsea flower show is The Dress , live in BBC1 now!

Riverlee · 24/05/2024 19:59

Sorry, just seen it’s been mentioned. Looks nice.

anunlikelyseahorse · 24/05/2024 20:09

I like the strappy shoes, they suit you. I'm not so keen on the other shoes, but I can't put my finger on why. The dress doesn't suit you, you have a stunning figure but although it's not a bad cut, the belt doesn't quite work and the dress is 'fussy', I think sending it back was a good move! Ideally the cut of the black dress but in a different block colour would work well. Having said that OP, you could pretty much wear anything and you'd still look good. 😊

The closed toe shoes don’t suit op as they are the wrong colour for her. And I’m not persuaded the dress is the right colour for her either. This is why I suggested she get her colours done.

pharmachameleon · 25/05/2024 07:50

@Mummyoflittledragon I would love to get my colours done-would you recommend any particular company?
Aww I missed the dress on TV last night! Would loved to have seen it.

Thanks so much @anunlikelyseahorse. The second dress I ordered is navy with little white polka dots. Having tried it on I agree the colour doesn't suit me that well but I'm going to keep it as is a lovely dress. I find it hard to get clothes in colours that suit me (I only really suit soft pastel colours), don't show up my pancake boobs, don't show my bony chest area and hide my veiny legs 😭
