Should I I keep this dress? Help me decide!

I bought this dress online from Me and Em about two weeks ago so I need to decide soon if I should keep it. I can't decide!!! I like it on me-the colours suit me and my chest area is awful (skinny, flat chested and uneven skin tone) so it's good this dress hides that area. But is it frumpy?
I really don't know any more. It's not for anywhere special, maybe wearing on holiday or out for dinner. Tell me straight if I should send it back please!

I like it and don’t think it’s frumpy but as others have said, for that price I think you need to love it.

HolidayAtNight · 17/05/2024 11:06

I like it but would replace the belt and have the tier removed.

CharlotteBog · 17/05/2024 11:10

Oooof I didn't see the price!

It's hard to comment w/o seeing it on you OP.

Yes I think you're right @Onelifeonly. I like it but don't love it so I might like it even less as time goes on if I keep it.
@KomproMatilda thanks for the links. I think we have really different tastes! I don't like any of these at all but I get what you're trying to say.
@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads I don't think I mind viscose. The fabric feels lovely-like a thin linen that doesn't crease.

The material is lovely. The viscose gives it a silky feel and will prevent the linen creasing.

Rainydayinlondon · 17/05/2024 11:15

I think it’s lovely but there are similar dresses for around the £150 mark. Now you know what suits you, just Filter your search by elbow length sleeves/collar ( neck type)

Rainydayinlondon · 17/05/2024 11:18

Phase eight, whistles, ghost and lk Bennett all do this style.

pharmachameleon · 17/05/2024 11:51

@Rainydayinlondon I have been looking for a long time! It's so hard to find a dress in a colour that suits me (pale lilac, pale blue) that is high neck and isn't a big baggy sack.

It’s a nice dress and I like it. If I was swithering about it though, that says to me I don’t like it enough to justify the price and I would send it back.

OP You need to decide if you like this dress.

It doesn't matter whether a random selection of posters think it's "frumpy" or "not frumpy". Their opinions don't change the dress.

KnittedCardi · 17/05/2024 12:37

Dry Clean, 50% Viscose and Made in China for £345, it's a no from me. I do like the dress though!

In a previous thread, I would ask why the hell the frill on the bottom. Why not just straight. But, all those things aside, the print is lovely, and I do like the dress overall.

Who cares though? Not everyone is price sensitive and needs to scratch around finding cheaper options.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/05/2024 12:51

I think it's one of those styles that would look great on some people but might look 'frumpy' on others. It would have suited me when I was in my 20s (if petite length) but really wouldn't now.

It seems rather expensive for what it is though.

PosyPrettyToes · 17/05/2024 12:55

It's very pretty..... but it does look more like it was £80 from boden.

OneFrenchEgg · 17/05/2024 13:02

I think 'frumpy' means boring, safe and unflattering, usually with coverage of cleavage and thighs. Which has its place obviously.

I dislike the dress, it fits my personal definition. The klements link is great, I've saved it.

pharmachameleon · 17/05/2024 13:07

Thanks @Workawayxx for posting those links. They are nice but I think overall a bit too casual looking. Apart from the Nobody's Child one but that's a V neck and looks as if it's not available in my size (I'm an 8).
The Me and Em one is quite fitted on and I think quite flattering.
And I know I'm going to sound like an arse and I'd never say this in real life but I don't care about the price. I can afford it and usually pay about £300 for dresses as I buy most of them from Me and Em, Rixo and Sezane (Sezane generally a bit cheaper).

It looks like it’s been made out of someone’s grandmas curtains

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 17/05/2024 13:14

Gosh I wish I hadn't looked at the website, I love this dress and could never justify the cost. My wedding dress was from Monsoon and just over £120 so this sort of price tag feels very 'ooh that's not for me'.

It's cute but geez it's expensive for a button up dress. If you're not sure, send it back.

Riverlee · 17/05/2024 13:17

The dress is pretty, but if it makes you feel frumpy, it’s not the right dress for you.

Maybe you’re undecided because the colour suits your colour palette, but the style doesn’t (or the other way round).

TheGirlattheBack · 17/05/2024 09:54

My acid test for any new item of clothing is whether I love it, it makes me feel great and I want to wear it immediately. If 2 weeks later you’re still not sure then send it back.

I was going to say exactly this. If, after two weeks you're not sure, send it back. It's a lot of money and you need to feel great in it and want to be able to wear it a lot.

It’s just that OP said she couldn’t afford new shoes…

MrsVeryTired · 17/05/2024 13:42

For that price, you need to love it and feel fabulous in it, so I'd return it as I don't think you do.

Amx · 17/05/2024 14:05

Post a photo of you in it, not with your head obviously.

diddl · 17/05/2024 14:16

To me it's quite old fashioned-tie belt, puff sleeves & the big frill/tier.

It's what I was wearing years ago!

It's more than I paid for my wedding dress!
