Just that really, what do you think? Obviously looks much better on a model in the picture. Thank you!

@Howmanyroses in that case i think it is also too casual for that sort of venue. You need something fancier looking. This is very “posh bbq”

I disagree 100%. You'd (general you) would look daft in such a pale, delicate dress at a BBQ, (posh or otherwise).

Longandsuffering · 14/01/2024 18:52

It's inoffensive. Nobody is going to be looking at it and thinking "My my it looks like a dish rag". I don't like it particularly but for £15 from EBay and baring in mind that it's just for a wedding I don't think anybody will look twice at it.

MCOut · 14/01/2024 18:57

I don’t like the one that you’ve bought, but I think the black halter neck dress you posted, is quite pretty. They have something very similar in a cobalt blue and I love a strong colour, so personally would consider that one over the black. I would potentially just be worried about quality.

TheOriginalFrench · 14/01/2024 19:03

bullying? Bullying?

So now if someone posts a photo of a dress we can only say it’s wonderful?

Fuck me.

S&B is finished …

Howmanyroses · 14/01/2024 19:07

To be clear, I haven't interpreted any of the comments as bullying.. I am ok with direct feedback, I can be pretty direct myself 😀 I think maybe 'stately home' is misleading. I know the crowd who will be attending and they are usually fairly low-key, nothing over the top is required. Any suggestions are welcome by the way. What would be your absolute top choice of an outfit for a wedding in July?

dishrag, attacked by an xl bully? you'll find you can say you don't like something without using mocking hyperbole.....

I'm not going to make a suggestion for you because you have bagged, for £15, a delicate, pretty, slightly messy dress which on the sites I found it started life at several hundred pounds, which you like.

I'm thinking about either of these for a July wedding. I have the Klements dress in cotton in another pattern. I love it and it's had lots of compliments.

I'm so sorry it looks awful and cheap.

This.

don’t think it’s that appropriate for a wedding either especially if it’s in a decent venue

hellsBells246 · 14/01/2024 19:55

Sorry, but that dress is awful.

I like the shape of the dress from your op and I assume that it's a shape and length which suits you or you wouldn't have bought it. So my absolute top choice would be a dress in a similar shape but a stronger colour and with fewer embellishments. But that's my style and not yours. And I wouldn't buy that shape for me either bit imagine we don't look anything alike.

If you really want suggestions I'd start a new thread describing your shape etc and I'm sure you'll get lots of help. But tbh, I don't imagine you'll find much for £15 that you're happy with, so just wear your op one imo. It isn't to my taste but I'm not wearing it

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle I love the Klements dress you posted!

WhereAreWeNow · 14/01/2024 19:59

I kind of like the petal thing @Howmanyroses . It's pretty and unusual.
It's a bit pale and short for me but I can imagine it would look amazing on someone young and slim with nice legs. I reckon my DD would look good in it.
If it suits you and you like it, wear it!

Howmanyroses · 14/01/2024 16:22

Thanks everyone, I am on the fence about this one. I got it on eBay for £15, so it was a bargain. I don't go to many weddings, so reluctant to spend a lot on a dress that I will only ever wear once or twice. I am short and petite, so longer dresses don't really suit me, hence the length. On me it's about knee length. I really detest anything patterned and the actual shade of the dress is more like dusty pink, rather than orange. I still can't decide whether it looks pretty and delicate or just a bit messy, especially from a distance.

Well I'm going to go against the grain here - I think it's a gorgeous dress OP and perfectly suitable for a summer wedding. It does look pretty and delicate. If you like it, wear it.

I really would never ask MN for advice on clothing - some of the things other people like simply astound me!!

hellsBells246 · 14/01/2024 19:55

Sorry, but that dress is awful.

I think that dress is one which is actually objectively not very nice as KatrinaWaves said

that looks like it’s been run up on their mum’s sewing machine by a teenager using a tacking stitch! The quality is clearly awful.

I quoted that comment because it's a useful criticism without falling into hyperbole.

bloodyeffinnora · 14/01/2024 20:07

I think it's lovely

TheOGCCL · 14/01/2024 20:36

I think it probably looks better on, especially if it comes down longer. But the appliqué design, especially from a distance, looks like a load of pillow feathers stuck on, so it just seems a bit scruffy.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 14/01/2024 20:39

I like the dress OP, I'm petite and can visualise the length on me and it's perfectly decent. I like boho styles and would do hair in that style too with loose curls. Colour wise I suit strong colours more but could imagine wearing that colour as a nude. The detail is lovely on the subsequent pictures and you got a bargain.

Sister Jane

I like the Sister Jane dress but tbh both dresses would swamp me, as I am petite and short. I would look grotesque with balloon sleeves too

I like it and think it's fine for a wedding.

The main thing is that you like it and feel good in it.

Passingthethyme · 14/01/2024 21:28

AreolaGrande · 14/01/2024 13:52

Insipid colour and rather dishrag-esque.

Not for me.

Agree. It's bla.

Mumaway · 14/01/2024 21:29

It's perfectly suitable for a wedding.

HardcoreLadyType · 14/01/2024 21:32

I really like it. I’m guessing It’s for a summer wedding, though?

Frasers · 14/01/2024 21:34

Honestly I think it’s fine, I’m sure you suit it. Don’t worry about the comments, none of the alternates posted were any better, in fact to be honest, yours is the best posted so far.

habe fun and enjoy the wedding, you will look great.

VenusClapTrap · 14/01/2024 21:43

I love it. It reminds me of a dress I wore to a wedding when I was in my early 30s. Same colour and shape, which on me is flattering. I don’t suit strong colours, and I’m short, so I totally see the appeal of this one.

For what it’s worth, op, I once bought a Vivienne Westwood dress on eBay, which was also ripped to shreds on here. My question was about shoes! 😂 (At least I think it was. I’m peri and my memory is shot)

mumof1or2 · 14/01/2024 21:45

This dress is vile!

Spomsored · 14/01/2024 22:51

I don't much like it on the model but if the colour is more pink and you like it on I'm sure it will be lovely at a summer wedding. Great price and I love the black petal dress (though probably not in black for a wedding).
