Does this ring look good on me? Tiffany Etoile "engagement" ring

I loved the Tiffany Etoile engagement ring when we got engaged 15 years ago, but couldn't afford it. Went with a generic sticky-uppy prong setting, looked lovely but I could never get used to wearing it (sensory issues, also I am clumsy with a hands-on job). Eventually sold it and just wore my plain platinum wedding ring.

DH suggested getting an anniversary ring. I'm not keen on eternity rings, and in my browsing, found a few Etoiles (now long discontinued) for sale.

I've tried one on and it's so smooth and comfortable - it's 0.35ct in platinum. I love it. It's got all its paperwork, had it checked out in Tiffany with the owner, it's a great price. But I have zero sense of style so am not sure if it looks awful or nice, if the diamond looks too small and the band too big, etc. I'd be very grateful for opinions from you stylish people. Honesty is welcome! Thank you.

Edit: argh sorry for my giant hand. I can't resize. My ring size is actually small (H1/2 UK).

I’m not sure I’m suited to being a hand model. I really need some industrial strength hand cream! But here you go….

I am a jewellery (+ particularly ring) fiend! I have way more rings than fingers but I still love all of them.
I spent 3 yrs hankering after my eventual 50th birthday oval solitaire and 5 yrs for my 60th marquise. I get so much pleasure from both of them, partly because I loved them for so long before I actually had them.
I think you should go with the Étoile for this reason.
Take no notice of people preferring the other one - you already know it won’t work for you.
I can be very indecisive but once I have found a thing I’m sure I love, I love it forever! I think 15 years is long enough to know that your Étoile will bring you joy!

@Grumplechops ohh that is so gorgeous!! Thank you so much. Can I ask what size the diamond is? That's exactly the band thickness I like.

This is my Tiffany wedding band which I wear by itself as I said earlier in the thread.
It is flat and easy to wear.
I don't love the feeling of rings and as a play therapist have lots of clay, sand and paint I need to wash off my hands.

Ooohhh….love that!

Grumplechops · 06/01/2024 15:11

I think it’s 0.35 or 0.4 so very similar to yours!

onceinabluemoon2 · 06/01/2024 15:11

@DogFish614 here you go. probably need to have it polished at Tiffany's, been a while. And I'd certainly will never be a hand model either! 😂

@Bpiece what a beautiful and elegant oval and marquise! They look wonderful on you. Thank you for posting them.

Would you consider wearing the engagement ring on your right hand, thus moving it away from the wedding band where it looks too chunky?

I have my gran’s engagement ring next to my wedding ring as they work well together. I wear an eternity ring and my engagement ring on my right hand.

Really enjoying looking at everyone's lovely rings.

DogFish614 · 06/01/2024 15:14

@onceinabluemoon2 ah your set is so beautiful!! Thank you for posting it. Hmm I see what people mean about the matching width of rings looking good.

I love your first choice, OP.

I think a lot of the negative comments are from people who believe wedding and associated rings have to follow very specific traditional proportions and aesthetics. If you reject that then their opinions aren't really relevant to you.

No, people just have a different opinion to you.

OP it's fine if you love it. In the first pic the band does the talking. In the second, it's the stone. Very much up to you, which you prefer! Enjoy your ring!

Amara123 · 06/01/2024 15:19

I think it looks great and when it's resized it will look less bulky.

Honestly give your heart what it wants, it's been on your mind for years.

Rings are jewellery for the wearer (unlike earrings and necklaces), you're the one who'll look at it the most.

Bpiece · 06/01/2024 15:21

Thank you. Not quite sure why my left hand looks like King Charles’ sausage fingers while right hand looks slightly better!
Having now seen several pictures of Étoiles with matching size wedding band, I actually prefer it with your thinner wedding band or even on its own.
I also think that having stones in the wedding band might detract from the simplicity of the Étoile.

GingerGill · 06/01/2024 15:21

This is my stack! Really need a clean and polish so
have taken them off or pop in the cleaner (random Xmas present but very handy!)

@GingerGill that is beautiful! Thank you for posting. I love the three rings together.

Don't worry to pp I'm not reading any comments as negative. It's all just personal taste on a supremely frivolous topic, I'm not offended. I wanted honesty as it's a big purchase for us and I'd rather make a fully informed decision. I've got loads of good ideas from here which as a non-jewellery-wearer I wouldn't have considered.

I like it!

Somepeoplearesnippy · 06/01/2024 15:30

I much prefer the second setting on you. It looks more elegant.

rockstarshoes · 06/01/2024 15:40

I much prefer the first one but I like chunky jewellery!

I would have it if I was you & then just update your wedding band later on!

Katbum · 06/01/2024 15:41

Get what you love and ignore the ‘style gurus’ of mumsnet!

BasiliskStare · 06/01/2024 15:42

@Grumplechops I love yours - but then I would wouldn't I ha ha . I think your look very elegant

HouseofCardsComesATumblingDown · 06/01/2024 15:44

I LOVE all the pictures of the etoile stacks!

That's exactly what I love, a feeling of neat simplicity but beautifully done.

I had my original prongy ring adjusted to look similar with bands of the same width neatly stacked and I love it. I get great satisfaction just looking at the simple neatness and wear them every day.

I think the solution is: a new matching wedding band too.

NewYear24 · 06/01/2024 15:45

The second one is nicer.

SoFar2024IsABitCrap · 06/01/2024 16:00

This engagement ring is one of three I have - from the same marriage!! It is the one I wear the most though!

Genius.
I like the way you roll.
