Hi, thinking of this - I’m 5 ft 4 and big boobs w small waist - usually a 10 or 12. It’s online only - do you think it would be very voluminous? And what’s the quality like w Nobody’s Child? https://www.marksandspencer.com/cord-v-neck-button-through-midaxi-tea-dress/p/clp22581426#intid=pid_pg1pip48g2r18c2|prodflag_New

I looked at that dress several times, I think it would look a bit Handmaids Tale in green so I haven't bought it.

I've got two of the Cos cord shirt dresses linked to above from previous years and I like them but am not massively fond of the lack of structure if I'm honest.

Hush and Crew also do nice cord dresses.

I would say that, at 5'4" with boobs, a dress made of corduroy with huge sleeves in a dark colour with the big frill thing at the bottom would make you look very wide, shorter than you are and very busty. I'm your height with middle sized boobs. I can't wear dresses with the frill thing in that ' little house on the prairie' style. I look like I'm running the church Christmas raffle for my vicar husband.

Ha…I love everyone’s imagining of what they’d look like in that dress

Me too - this thread is giving me nostalgic vibes for old jumble sales and playgroups! My mum used to wear this look and I have to say that she pulled it off well.

Reduxrabbit · 01/12/2023 19:50

DoDoDoD - I think you may be my body double! Also not into the wench look.

grumpycow1 · 01/12/2023 21:11

I ordered it in burgundy direct from Nobody’s Child, 20% off. Hasn’t arrived yet but I’ll let you know!

pertbootywish · 01/12/2023 21:19

I have this dress in the dark red colour after someone else linked it on another thread. I too am short 5ft4 with curves (36C) and was wary about ordering and keeping it for all the Mennonite woman references already mentioned. However just to say I did end up keeping it, it’s a beautiful colour and fabric, the cord is actually quite light and flows so it doesn’t stick out but drapes well, I found the fit on the bust line great and was able to wear it without my bra showing or wearing a vest under it and it was not indecent, the fit under bust and wait was good and flattering rather than bulky, the length came to low calf and I wore it with some tan suede ankle/cowboyish boots with a small heel. The one negative that made me umm and ahh about keeping it was actually the width of the shoulders which I found quite wide and highlighted the puffy shoulder/sleeves and I think although I really like it and ended up keeping it I would like it even more if the sleeves weren’t quite so puffy at the shoulders or the shoulders were a tad narrower. It did pass the other half test and he would usually be quick to screw his face up at some of the sister wive dresses about at the moment. I’m usually a size 12 up top and a 14 on the bottom and got the size 12 which was more than adequate. My 18 year old daughter saw me trying it on and declared her love for it next thing I know she’s got the same one in the same colour (in a size 6 and at 5ft6 does look amazing in it). You’ve got nothing to lose by trying it!

NigelHarmansNewWife · 01/12/2023 21:32

I tried the same style in a red patterned cord. It's actually very flattering - I'm 5'4", DD boobs and a size 14 - but the sleeves are massive. Medieval massive and I contemplated taking the fullness in, but then thought it would be too much work.

muddlingthrou · 01/12/2023 21:47

I have a dress this shape, and it is so flattering! I am 5ft 10ins though, so can't comment on the sleeves swamping you. I suspect you will look gorgeous though.

pinkstripeycat · 01/12/2023 23:04

I have a photo of my mum in a dress like that in 1974. Too old fashioned for me but as fashions go full circle it won’t have been seen by lots of younger people who’d probably love it

SmokedGlass · 01/12/2023 23:59

Sorry, frumpy in the least and at 5ft 4 that would swamp you imo

Ramalangadingdong · 02/12/2023 02:59

I don’t like it. It might look better on you as the model is too slight. But then again you are petite so I cannot imagine a dress that long flattering your figure.

User136921 · 02/12/2023 05:44

Often those type of dresses are for up to about 5'7", if you are any taller they are not cut for a tall person and the sleeves are short and the waist is in the wrong place, even though the style may suit a tall person. I would probably order it OP but only if it is easy to return if it doesn't suit you but I think it will look nice.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/12/2023 07:27

TBH I think you’d need to be tall and vv slim to look good in the M&S cord one. I don’t think it look all that great on the model, either.

EveWinter · 02/12/2023 08:02

I bought the M&S one in red and navy last year and returned them both, they looked frumpy and made me look really thick through the waist. Tons of fabric.

I am tall and slim and dresses like this make me look like I've bought the wrong size. Don't fill out the chest, swathes of fabric looking like I'm trying to hide my body.
I also know I'd trip up the bloody stairs!

Menstrualcycledisplayteam · 02/12/2023 09:53

I have this dress and my dimensions are not dissimilar to yours (albeit I'm larger overall). I wouldn't recommend tbh and I regret buying it - the shoulders are so poofy that I often catch them out of the corner of my eye and think "shit, what's that" (yes, really). For my height, build and boobs it's just too wide and, on reflection, I look terrible in it. Tags are off so I'm thinking of getting it altered to make the sleeves fitted. A bad buy for me.

BoobyDazzler · 02/12/2023 09:54

It’s a beautiful colour and I love the fabric but those sleeves are not good for people who are blessed with big tits. I have a similar body type to the OP and it would make me look like I was wearing a poncho.

Pizdietz · 02/12/2023 11:56

I know this should never influence our clothes choices, but I've got a horrible feeling it's one of those garments that blokes will look at and think WTAF 😂

pontipinemum · 02/12/2023 12:01

I'm 5'4 as well, I think that dress would swallow you whole, sorry. I think it's for a much taller woman

BlueGrey1 · 02/12/2023 12:32

If it was quite fitted around the bust and the waist it could be nice but maybe as you are quite short (like myself) it could swamp you with the big sleeves, wouldn’t know until you try it on

dullandgrey · 02/12/2023 13:03

I bought this dress from nobody's child and I'm 5ft 3 and it swamped me so had to return it which I was very sad about! I love the look and shape of it but I think also you'd need to size down perhaps.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 02/12/2023 15:04

Britpopbaby · 02/12/2023 14:49

Apart from both being made of cord it's a completely different dress (and to my eyes desperately dull and a peculiar colour)

Still I expect the OP has now been thoroughly talked out of her choice.
