Hi, thinking of this - I’m 5 ft 4 and big boobs w small waist - usually a 10 or 12. It’s online only - do you think it would be very voluminous? And what’s the quality like w Nobody’s Child? https://www.marksandspencer.com/cord-v-neck-button-through-midaxi-tea-dress/p/clp22581426#intid=pid_pg1pip48g2r18c2|prodflag_New

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle i bloody love that dress! Now desperately trying to think if I’ve got anything coming up that I might need to buy that dress for. Maybe New Year’s Eve…

OP I’ve seen this dress a few times and looked and considered it but haven’t bitten the bullet yet, I ordered a navy wrap dress from there last week but am sending it back as the material isn’t what I expected and i also can’t get it to securely wrap and tie closed!

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 03/12/2023 09:52

I just think it would be an absolute pain to try to iron.

BreatheAndFocus · 03/12/2023 09:56

Gorgeous colour but it looks like it has far too much material in the sleeves and all bunched up around the waist. This makes it look weird and frumpy even on the tall, slim model.

I’d look for a similar dress elsewhere.

Squirre · 03/12/2023 10:16

I think it's lovely! I think the top of the sleeves look quite poofy which never works on me. Worth trying on and returning? So hard to tell from a photo on a model with a completely different frame.

Spink86 · 03/12/2023 12:06

I have that dress in 3 or 4 different prints - the style is called starlight. I find it pretty flattering! I'm a similar height, 34H and a 14. If you don't like busty it's not for you! It hits me at a similar length to the model. I've been happy with most things I've bought from them, the only exception was some white patterned dresses that were see through!
If you get it on the nobodys child website there is usually a 20% discount each month

Nothing worse than a wrap dress that won’t stay closed!

SmallestInTheClass · 03/12/2023 16:55

That is the ugliest dress I've seen jn ages. It does nothing for the model and I imagine on your average person it would be even worse. The gorgeous colour is its only redeeming feature.

Usuallyquiet · 03/12/2023 18:31

Isn't one of the positives of internet shopping that you can order different sizes and styles and try on in the comfort of your own home/over a few days etc depending on how you're feeling.

Not sure if I've missed something in the OP.

I’ve just bought this dress and absolutely love it!
I’m 5ft 2 and a 34F so was very worried about the boob area. I’m usually a 10 or 12 so got the 12 and it fits beautifully, the boobs are fully covered, it does not swamp me at all, however I am considering taking the hem up an inch or two but dh thinks I don’t need to.
I’m wearing it to a Xmas do with heels and lots of gold necklaces and will also wear it with a roll neck underneath and my DMs for daytime.

By the way it’s a very fine cord, so not bulky at all.

LizzieSiddal · 03/12/2023 22:55

@DoDoDoD this is the link to the Nobody’s Child site and the dress. It comes in lots of patterns and colours and you can see how it can be styled in lots of different ways. You also get 15% off if you’ve never shopped with them before.

Thank you! It's very oversized. I'm a 14 even a 16 and I bought the S which is a good size.

SmokedGlass · 04/12/2023 00:37

Awful and frumpy

It's a very easy dress to dress up or dress down. I'm very tempted by it but I've bought a lot this year.

RADIOOFF · 04/12/2023 04:55

I like the volume of the Nobody’s Child dress, and the fabric and colour. Not so keen on the fussiness of the bodice, but I’d probably admire it on someone else.

It’s not my style at all, but I am constantly drawn to this dress, which is a more streamlined (and more costly) version of the one above.

Don’t know if there’s anything on that site that might appeal, @DoDoDoD?

I have a couple of Nobody's Child dresses. The quality is fair, though as a PP says, size down if you don't have enormous boobs. I'm DD and size 12 gapes on me. Also, they do love their front fastening buttons. Which come undone when you move! I wish they'd just sew up the front of the dresses and use buttons as detailing. As a result I only wear them if I am at a short event when all I have to do is stand around.

So probably a no.

Agree with the gaping thing, but it’s so easy to recify. Just put a few stitches at the front so it can’t gape open!

Ok brilliant, I think I'll order it as it sounds like if it's good on you it might work on me height and boobs wise. Thank you! In terms of why not order and return - I'm away a fair bit over the next few weeks and consumed with some tricky family stuff when I'm home so I often find it difficult to get to the post office - meaning I'm trying to be a bit more sensible when ordering online in terms of only buying what I really think will suit/fit.
[Embarrassingly, I have about 7 or 8 online purchases that I didn't send back by the deadline that are now just sitting here in their packaging that I must do something about].

My god it's enormous and completely swamps the model.

lollo8 · 01/12/2023 09:25

Oooof no. Not at 5ft 4, sorry. It doesn't even look good on the model, who is probably 5ft 8+. And the style is extremely frumpy.

I agree... it looks like a sack of potatoes, but green... I understand thats fashionable these days, but... no!
The whole thing is just unflattering.

YouAreMyCentreWhenISpinAway · 05/12/2023 09:10

I've seen similar dresses on women and I wouldn't call them frumpy at all. The colour is beautiful, and these dresses have always looked really elegant on whoever I have seen it on.

I really don't know where all these non frumpy/ stylish fashionistas are because when I am out and about most people are dressed like they've just rolled out of bed. In fact, the best dressed, most well groomed person I know, was wearing a version of this from Baukjen a few weeks ago, in this colour, and looked stunning.

What the heck is wrong with green?

Plus the model looks anything but “frumpy” but then that’s an awful description of anyone.

TheGreyRockess · 05/12/2023 12:17

I think it’s hideous on the model and can’t imagine any shape that it would flatter.

Agree. Corduroy does not make good puffy sleeves or a gathered skirt. It's a wrong un. Sorry.

Theres nothing wrong with green... And I never said there was. I just said the dress looks like a green sack of potatoes, which arent usually green.

And that is your opinion. I think the whole thing looks absolutely dreadful and really frumpy.

And thats fine! You like it, I dont, its all good!

JaneFarrier · 05/12/2023 19:06

I think it's lovely (not that I am an arbiter of taste), but I'd be worried it's too low-cut to wear any bra under it. I think I'd end up with a camisole. Which could be quite warm with cord.

Maternityleavelady · 05/12/2023 22:30

I ordered this but sent it back - shape wise it swamped me (I am 5 foot 5)
