M&S green cord dress - any thoughts?

Hi, thinking of this - I’m 5 ft 4 and big boobs w small waist - usually a 10 or 12. It’s online only - do you think it would be very voluminous? And what’s the quality like w Nobody’s Child? https://www.marksandspencer.com/cord-v-neck-button-through-midaxi-tea-dress/p/clp22581426#intid=pid_pg1pip48g2r18c2|prodflag_New

I love cord dresses but that looks enormous even on the model. And is weirdly low cut so I (you may not) would feel I'd need something underneath at that point.

RavingStone · 01/12/2023 09:49

It's pretty and the one item I have from nobody's child is lovely quality. However, personally I don't think boobs work with that particular style of waistband that kind of comes right up under the bust. Maybe better on you because you're shorter, but on me there wouldn't be enough space in the bust section and it would produce a very "wench" look.

junebirthdaygirl · 01/12/2023 09:52

I have one from M&S and its more like the shape of the Sainsbury one: not Nobodys Child.
I love it and have got so many compliments about it anytime l have worn it. I love cord.
.
I would go for a different cord dress with less puffy sleeves.

Thebeautyofitis · 01/12/2023 09:55

I was looking at the mini version of this last night online and I'm hoping to find it when shopping today so that I can try on.

My3dahliasarebloominlovely · 01/12/2023 10:03

I have this dress in red. I'm 5'2, busty, big waist, small hips. Size 18 dress is perfect and very flattering from the front, but I will have to put seams in the back of the bodice, as from the side view and back it sticks out. When I've done that it will be lovely. I know a 16 would sit awkwardly on my bust, but would fit better in the middle. Luckily I have skills and a sewing machine.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 01/12/2023 10:04

That is not nicer. It's a drab Ghost knock off.(even if it actually is Ghost- it looks like a cheap knock off)

I don't know what Nobody's Child sizing is like but that dress is beautiful. It's the nicest dress I've seen on here for a while.

I love the sleeves.

starfishmummy · 01/12/2023 10:08

You say you are bug busted, so I suspect the combination of that and those sleeves will not be at all flattering.

Pancakefam · 01/12/2023 10:09

I honestly see a Christmas tree when I look at that dress. Think it's the shape as well as the colour.

This is similar, albeit plainer, but wouldn't stick out so much over the tummy - https://tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/product/tuc143347095

The colour on that one hasn't any of the vibrancy of the Nobody's Child dress. The material looks thin and cheap despite being more expensive. And it's boring. There's no comparison.

BarbaraofSeville · 01/12/2023 10:28

I thought it was going to be about this one, which I really like

Cord V-Neck Mini Shift Dress | Nobody's Child | M&S (marksandspencer.com)

However, M&S dresses seem to be cut for people with broad shoulders and narrow hips, whereas I'm the opposite, so sadly the size that fitted over my arse was far too big on the top half so it didn't hang right.

Verite1 · 01/12/2023 10:35

It does look pretty voluminous. My guess is that it will drown you. Definitely size down if you can.

Mynewnameis · 01/12/2023 10:40

Big no from me, but I'm short. You are not massively tall though either. I just can't see this working

AdultLounge · 01/12/2023 10:42

I think it looks like a wee girl dressing up in her grannie's clothes.

LlynTegid · 01/12/2023 10:44

I don't like it, colour OK not style. Thought dressing gown!!

EarringsandLipstick · 01/12/2023 10:47

I don't like it at all, but if you do, at your height (I'm a little to be smaller than

God this glitch app, atm.

What I wanted to say was:

I'm a little smaller than you; that style would swamp me & I suspect will be really long on you.

Crepesuzetteforone · 01/12/2023 10:51

I have this dress in a different colour - it’s gorgeous!

it will also look great on you as it will be really flattering on your boobs and show off a small waist

there is a short version of this dress too, if you think it’s too long. Will probably be about knee length ( or just above ) on you.

User9088 · 01/12/2023 10:54

I have this dress in linen from the summer with a shorter sleeve. The bodice and neckline works well on big boobs. I find it really flattering. It is long on me but there is a mini version so you could try both and send one back.

I don't know how i feel about it to be honest. the cross I hang around my neck started burning a bit when i considered getting it, which always happens when God thinks i should do something. but I'm not sure if I like it enough. What do you think mums? to buy or not to buy? that is the question.

DaisyDoor · 01/12/2023 11:10

I love it.

I find it so interesting that so many comments focus on whether it will make you look bigger. It’s a voluminous dress, it’s supposed to be big. There’s no reason anyone would assume you fill it out any more than you’d assume a policeman’s head goes all the way to the top of his helmet. I hope the popularity of dresses with shape like this signals a move away from the notion that a flattering dress is necessarily just one that makes you look like there’s less of you. There are so many other things about a dress.

I agree with everything you say.

CharlotteBog · 01/12/2023 12:27

I don't often say this, but I think it's awful. It's just about OK from the front, but from the back it looks like something from Anne of Green Gables (which I love, but don't follow the fashions!).

It's says they cut Nobody's Child to be form fitting. There's nothing form fitting about this on the model.
I think it you filled out the top with larger breasts you'd look like an 80s pottery teacher, and if you're more lean it's just going to hang and make you look scrawny.

If you love it OP maybe wait until it hits the sales...I have a feeling it will.
