Hi, thinking of this - I’m 5 ft 4 and big boobs w small waist - usually a 10 or 12. It’s online only - do you think it would be very voluminous? And what’s the quality like w Nobody’s Child? https://www.marksandspencer.com/cord-v-neck-button-through-midaxi-tea-dress/p/clp22581426#intid=pid_pg1pip48g2r18c2|prodflag_New

I have big boobs and unless I was wearing a vest this would be too low and even then I'm not sure it would be flattering.

@DoDoDoD , the models tend to be tall and willowy and almost flat chested. Clothes are often pinned or bulldog-clipped to look better in photos. Some sites have photos that have been photoshopped

If you are short(ish), you need to draw the eye upward. Midi hems draw the eye downwards, as do V-necks. Volume usually makes things look wider. Gathers, pleats and ruching adds bulk.

The NC green dress will add width to your shoulders, arms and bust, and to your bottom, it will make you look shorter. Even the model looks like a little girl trying on her mum's dress.

If you look at what people in the public eye wear, some have a definite look that they stick to.

I couldn't disagree more with everything you've posted.

As DaisyDoor said there are so many other things about a dress than does it make you like there's less of you.

BebbanburgIsMine · 01/12/2023 17:16

It's beautiful!

Too low necked for me, but I can't afford it anyway so don't listen to me!

DuchessOfSausage · 01/12/2023 17:31

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle , ok, I'll reword it. Models are petite, of large build and curvaceous. Clothes are never pinned or bulldog-clipped in photoshoots. Photos are never photoshopped.

If you are short(ish), you need to draw the eye downward. Midi hems do not draw the eye downwards, and neither do V-necks. Volume doesn't usually make things look wider. Gathers, pleats and ruching removes bulk.

The NC green dress will not add width to your shoulders, arms and bust, or to your bottom, and it will make you look taller. Not even the model looks like a little girl trying on her mum's dress.

If you look at what people in the public eye wear, none have a definite look that they stick to.

Reduxrabbit · 01/12/2023 17:32

I tried and returned it as there was too much volume except where needed at the bust, where it looked indecent

Still disagree. That's just gibberish now. It's a beautiful dress.

DuchessOfSausage · 01/12/2023 17:43

The dress might be beautiful but it doesn't even look good on the model.

It does look good because it's a beautiful dress.

Aliceinnorthernland · 01/12/2023 17:49

It's awful. A big cord tent..

IsThePopeCatholic · 01/12/2023 17:51

I love it, but it’s quite long.

DuchessOfSausage · 01/12/2023 18:01

@Aliceinnorthernland , I wouldn't go that far but you made me Smile

LoreleiG · 01/12/2023 18:09

I really like it, it reminds me of vintage Laura Ashley dresses. The dress and look would sadly look awful on me though I think.

Pizdietz · 01/12/2023 18:24

I think it looks a bit bulky and might be unflattering.

I've been ogling these, would they be alternatives?

It's a different colour (and velvet, not corduroy!), but I particularly like the Ayra plum dress - slightly different style, very sweet.

It's awful 😂

GasDrivenNun · 01/12/2023 18:40

Cord is a bulky, not floaty fabric. I think it is best suited to straighter styles such a pinafore or a dungaree top dress. A very fine needlecord might work.

User136921 · 01/12/2023 18:43

It's nice, I'm 5' 10" and the proportions wouldn't be right for me, I would probably look like a tree

sunglassesonthetable · 01/12/2023 18:49

It's sort of great in its own right - lovely fabric, dramatic shape, great colour, covered button detail, but it might just end up wearing you.

You really, really need to try it on if you like it at all.

The only way to tell.

User136921 · 01/12/2023 18:50

There is a nice green dress in Per Una if you are a size 10, regular length, again I would be too tall for it.

avocadotofu · 01/12/2023 18:50

I'm also surprised to say I like it.

sunglassesonthetable · 01/12/2023 18:51

It reminds me of vintage Laura Ashley too.

catotangent · 01/12/2023 18:56

I think the model could look good in anything, and it looks ok on her but she could do better. She's also tall and slim.

I think it would be better in a less bulky fabric than cord.

rockstarshoes · 01/12/2023 19:00

I was going to suggest this one as not quite as much material but it's sold out in green!

The cream one is nice!

I bet it wouldn't. It's a lovely dress. You're right about it being like Laura Ashley

If I saw some one wearing it, I'd just think "great dress" - not all that "if you are short(ish), you need to draw the eye upward", blah, blah ,blah.

Ok thank you, that's very helpful and has made my mind up as I don't want to be too wench like - I've short dumpy legs (so the short version is out) but a long torso but don't want to be bursting out one end and totally drowning in the other..........gah! Guess I'll have to stick to my high waisted trousers with tucked in shirt. I just really want a cosy dress too!
