I can't do this alone folks. I've got TOO MUCH STUFF... I also have 2 beauty advent calendars

So I've set myself a challenge. Between now and June the 1st 2024 I will not buy any beauty products UNLESS I've run out of all of that particular type. If I've got a tiny sample bottle of shampoo or conditioner I'll use it all up. All those half used bottles of moisturiser, night cream, shower gel and toner and body lotion MUST GO... the mountain of soap must be surmounted.

My only concession is that I will not cancel the Liberty Beauty drop will get a couple of boxes to cheer me up

So if you want to join me make up your own rules and lets cull that stash

@Thereislightattheendofthetunnel , it was most fortunate. I went from 'Why am I doing this?' to feeling very happy.

One thing with the buying stuff is that it's the buying it that makes me happy. Not much of the actual stuff is a joy to use. It feels like quite a chore at times.
Some of it exceeds my expectations though.

The best things for exceeding my expectations tend to be from Holland & Barrett. Things that end up to be a chore are usually hand creams, hair conditioner/masks, face masks, exfoliators, body sprays. I never buy scent because they tend to make me feel sick after a couple of hours.

Edited

I’d be interested to know which items from H and B have exceeded expectations.

FayCarew · 09/02/2024 22:13

Quite a few of them from the advent calendars and gift sets.
Weleda Skin Food, Salt of the Earth, a lip balm that I thought I wouldn't like, Dr Organics, Faith in Nature, Q+A, Ethique and probably some others.

Anything from the discontinued food I've tried has been so tasty that I'vewondered why they were discontinuing it. Hmm

FiveShelties · 10/02/2024 06:16

@Peridot1 travel safely and have a fantastic time😁

SwordBilledHummingbird · 10/02/2024 09:57

I almost caved the other day when an email from Space NK arrived with a beauty GWP. I was so tempted but when I actually stopped to look at the contents it's the usual nonsense - two black mascaras (why two in one kit?) and lots of colours that wouldn't suit me. There were a couple of things I would really like but nothing I need plus I really don't need any more make-up right now!

TheChosenTwo · 10/02/2024 10:01

@SwordBilledHummingbird i looked a bit more closely at that GWP too and it all looked really boring! I’ve had/got/tried nearly everything in so an easy pass for me.
I’ve got a list of things I’d like, mostly repurchases, but they’re not urgent and I’ll wait for a better offer.
Just a side rant but the Vieve thing in there I received as a sample before and it was one of the worst things I’ve ever put on my face! Is it meant to be claggy/gloopy?!

SwordBilledHummingbird · 10/02/2024 10:42

@TheChosenTwo The Vieve thing was one of the things I was interested in, I assumed it would be quite light in texture not gloopy! Definitely don't fancy it now...

Fraaahnces · 10/02/2024 13:27

I have had a lot going on lately. When I can’t sleep I make shopping lists of crap I’m not actually buying. I have realised that I am far too spontaneous with purchases. What seems like a grand plan often seems ridiculous a couple of days later. I am researching a hair tool atm, and honestly think that’s all I need.

greengreengrass25 · 10/02/2024 13:32

I had a beauty treatment today (not a particularly exciting one) which was better than buying something itms

listsandbudgets · 14/02/2024 11:25

Will catch up on all your posts soon..

i'm at my mums usjng sec8nd stash and I've managed to run out of shampoo and conditioner on the same day so I've just made my first beauty related purchases since November 2nd!
A Herbal Essence bottle of each.

It felt almost exciting! 😂

I've been pretty good so far this year. I hadn't bought anything until this week!

This week I cancelled my Liberty Beauty Drop subscription and spent £60 of the accumulated credit on a lipstick and a concealer while I still have the free postage. The concealer I needed, but the lipstick was a want. However, I'm not sure whether this counts as I didn't actually spend any money. Overall, it's a win, because I won't be spending anymore money on the beauty drop.

The other purchase I made was from the body shop. When I saw that they'd collapsed into administration I bought two tubes of my favourite foot cream in case I can't get it again! It's the best thing for my dry cracked heal (so practically a medicine 😂).

No other beauty purchases yet this year. Not even a shampoo.

Cyclingmummy1 · 14/02/2024 21:30

BD credit doesn't count as spending @MidnightMeltdown 😉

narniabusiness · 14/02/2024 23:06

I cracked and spent some beauty drop money too. I got a tubing mascara. I have three waterproof mascaras in my stash and I opened two of them this week but I end up with horrendous panda eyes. It seems to be an age thing. The other mascaras are going to be binned. They were all advent calendar/ beauty box ones so easy come, easy go I suppose.

MidnightMeltdown · 14/02/2024 23:31

Phew! Thanks @Cyclingmummy1! 😄

QueefofSheena · 15/02/2024 05:38

I did the same with my credit @MidnightMeltdown I bought a Lisa Eldridge palette. When I started with BD I justified it by saying the Liberty AC was a one off. It probably is now.

Fraaahnces · 15/02/2024 09:04

I decided one way to enjoy my existing stash more was to make it a more lush experience. I bought some very stylish empty bottles and cosmetic jars and am going to depot what I’m using into them. I also bought some pretty gold cosmetic spatulas to make it an “experience” a-la Tatcha.

Those are pretty, @Fraaahnces!

My birthday was lovely and I only got one new beauty related gift (a lovely Lumene skincare kit), plus the promised new running shoes and a new top from DH. Plus new slippers from my parents.

I got to my 50-day streak of no beauty buying goal and now am going to use my £15 voucher for a new liquid lipstick. I've had a similar one before (same brand) and it worked great for me. And I don't have any long-wearing options, so it's effectively a replacement item. I was tempted by a 'normal' MAC lipstick but I opened a Clinique one from my stash and it's similar enough to the one I wanted that I have put the MAC one on hold - for now. Feeling proud of my overall restraint!

Fraaahnces · 17/02/2024 13:37

Hapoy Bday @moimichme! Glad you had a lovely one!

QueefofSheena · 17/02/2024 14:37

I’ve succumbed to temptation and bought the NAP kit, which was reduced. I got it mainly for the EGF eye serum but I’m actually delighted with it, and it was a bargain at £55 delivered. I’ve justified it as it’s money I’ve saved instead of using BD then not being able to spend the credit as everything is OOS

SwordBilledHummingbird · 17/02/2024 16:34

I broke my buying ban by getting the latest Liberty kit. I'm really pleased with it, will use everything. I took a bit of a punt on the cleanser being ok to remove eye make-up, despite being a foaming cleanser, but it works great with no stinging. The candle is much more vetiver than lavender, which surprised me but I like vetiver so that's ok. I'm also eyeing up the NAP kit but need to use up a couple more things first so will wait a bit.

Watchingpaintdrying · 17/02/2024 16:38

Could someone link to the NAP kit? I’m weighing up whether it is worth joining the Libery beauty drop.

QueefofSheena · 17/02/2024 22:03

@Watchingpaintdrying not sure how to do links but this is it

Stoic123 · 17/02/2024 22:42

I totally recommend the NAP set- was great value before the sale (bought twice) and is now exceptional value. The Joanna Czech Vit C is great.

listsandbudgets · 19/02/2024 21:45

What are you lot like? Turn my back and your buying kits and eying up more Grin I have to admit I'm also very tempted and it's taken a lot of will power not to buy the latest Liberty kit - it's probably only the fact that I've spent a small fortune on a new bag that stopped me! I need some savings.

The big news (well my big news!!) is that I've finally finished all the little bottles of shampoos and shower gels I had from Center Parks. I've no idea how many thee were but I seem to have been tackling them for months using them every other day to get rid of them. Now I can get on with tackling my enormous shower gel supply which is full of the ones I really do like.

I've nearly finished my REN dark circles eye cream - its the only thing I've found that works on my awful under eyes and it's the only one I've got - It's £50 for 15ml but it lasts ages as you only need a teeny tiny bit each day... BUT I've foiund it for £19.70 on a site called Beautykick.. has anyone used them? Too good to be true?

Well I might've bought a litre of each Aveda Shampure and Conditioner (QVC) with a pump for each bottle .
My DS uses it ( I can smell it on his hair ) Have you been using my expensive shampoo ?
Noo.......... (he's a rubbish liar)
And 2 of the ELF Bitesize eyeshadow palletes at the other end of the price spectrum

Watchingpaintdrying · 19/02/2024 22:36

I have used Aveda shampoo for years but read reviews recently which say the formula has changed very much for the worst. Gutting.
