I can't do this alone folks. I've got TOO MUCH STUFF... I also have 2 beauty advent calendars

So I've set myself a challenge. Between now and June the 1st 2024 I will not buy any beauty products UNLESS I've run out of all of that particular type. If I've got a tiny sample bottle of shampoo or conditioner I'll use it all up. All those half used bottles of moisturiser, night cream, shower gel and toner and body lotion MUST GO... the mountain of soap must be surmounted.

My only concession is that I will not cancel the Liberty Beauty drop will get a couple of boxes to cheer me up

So if you want to join me make up your own rules and lets cull that stash

I've had a kind of similar experience to you, Queef - but I did have one lovely advent calendar which was a gift from DH. 😊

Having made a lot of progress earlier in the year and given away a few nice things that wouldn't work for me, I'm at approximately 140 items of makeup, skincare, body care, hair care, candles and wax melts, sleep/room sprays, etc.

So it's quite a lot but I'm aiming to enjoy using my goodies and only buy replacements this year. Hoping to save some £££ along the way.

First I need to stop browsing various websites so that I can more easily stick to my goals...! Best of luck everyone.

Minnie123456 · 03/01/2025 23:32

@mcmooberry I will definately give a review, I'm hoping it's good.

I have a really bad habit of not using anything-it's like I'm afraid to use it or want to keep it for "good" which is such a waste if the stuff goes off.

I'm going to try a no buy this year and use up some of my stock, unfortunately I'm easily influenced by these threads and tik tok. "Project Peter Pan" is all over my tik tok and people are showing all their products and I'm like ohh those look nice and have to google them 🤦‍♀️ so far I haven't bought anything lol.

I am keeping my BD from liberty for now although I might cancel at some stage

CornishTiger · 04/01/2025 09:56

Hi everyone.

I flit in and out but I thought I’d check in. I moved house last month. Nothing quite like that and no bathroom/beauty storage to make you assess your purchasing habits!

Not bought anything for a while and now using up is discarding opened things. Did start a new firming serum by Temple spa. It’s nice enough but nothing amazing.

Overall there has been a massive declutter of things in the whole house. I’m really starting to just let things go that don’t have an immediate purpose or make me happy.

Peridot1 · 04/01/2025 09:57

I’m back after a bit of a gap.

I need to do a bit of a stock take. Stash nicely topped up after Christmas and the Liberty AC. Too topped up really.

I’m trying to get into the habit of using handcream and a lip mask every night before I go to sleep and a foot cream a few times a week. And wear perfume every day. Also need to start using my stash of face masks.

I also don’t tend to wear make up unless I’m going out but made a bit of an effort to wear a bit over Christmas and NY and I do feel more put together when I do. I’m also trying not to live in leggings and sweatshirts all the time but wear some of my clothes. I’ve been in a bit of a rut over the last while I think.

So no purchases needed here really. Other than SPF. I’m going to Australia next month so will get some more then. I like the Mecca one. And I’ll get some Korean ones probably @Fraaahnces.

Only other thing I need is to replace my Laura Mercier eye primer so I’m going to order that.

I had a sort out in my bathrooom as had to empty out drawers and I don’t need any body scrubs, shower gels or soap until next century I think!

Fraaahnces · 04/01/2025 12:41

I finished a bottle of the not very Japanese-sounding Ma Cherie Airy Moist Shampoo. Very nice, very simple shampoo that cleanses beautifully and doesn’t dry my hair out. Smells delicious and rinses thoroughly. I loved it but wanted something more clarifying, so spoke to the sales assistant at my local Asian beauty shop. She told me that people in Japan are very conscious about their body odor, and lot Boy, oh boy did she come through with the goods. Last night I washed my hair with the unfortunately-named Moist Diane (ew) Extra Fresh & Hydrate Shampoo. Wow. She’s minty! (She warned me!)
Welcome back @Peridot1 Hope all is well with you! I need to use hand cream also. Am terrible with those. I have new sunscreen on its way to me now. Hope it doesn’t take too long as very nearly out!

isthismylifenow · 04/01/2025 12:59

Happy new year you lovely lot.

I have been seeing these TT videos about Project Pan which makes me think of this thread, and that we are a year in now.

I most definitely will be carrying on the same awareness this year as I did the last, as there is not a lot I could possibly need this year after my event haul.

I had a massive sort out late last year and was a bit shocked and the sheer amount of stuff I had that would just not get used. So I passed it all on and just realised now that I have not even noticed that it's not here anymore.

I have had to start again with soap though 😂 but that will always get used (eventually).

I also finally finished the bar of hand soap in my bathroom. 🎉

wheresmyshoe · 04/01/2025 14:30

I'm back here with you, I've started my use up 100 products on the other thread. It's crazy how things have stacked up, an example being the three (!) face mists I have to use up despite getting through two last year and not buying any. I used up 100 products last year and the dent in the stash is satisfying to see.

Fraaahnces · 04/01/2025 14:39

I have used up another J-Beauty shampoo. Ma Cherie Airy Moist Shampoo smells lovely, rinses clear, does the job. I haven’t repurchased as I wanted a clarifying one and instead bought Diane Moist Refresh & Hydrate Shampoo. Mega Minty!!! I have never had such volume! Since swapping to Japanese hair products I have come to the conclusion that they have some absolute bangers but they do have terrible names.

Minnie123456 · 05/01/2025 12:58

@Fraaahnces stop recommending shampoos, I'm going to have to sit on my hands to stop myself googling them😂😂, they do sound amazing though.

Not counting deodorant, toothpaste I don't need anything for a very long time, I will probably need a heat protector spray in the near future but that's about it.

If I don't think my stash is reducing I might cancel my BD for a while ☹️ although I like the thought of a "treat" every 4 months

I have used up 5 things already, will post them on the other thread at the end of the month. I might count my empties the way @listsandbudgets did and include my net number, means I see how much my stash is actually reducing by.

Minnie123456 · 11/01/2025 23:43

Help!!! I'm struggling to stick to my no buy rule- I'm on holiday and there are so many shops selling lovely perfumes and skincare, I'm practically running past them so that I don't accidentally fall into them. Duty free and on the plane are going are going to be a big struggle for me. I always treat myself to a bottle of perfume when on holiday 🤦‍♀️

Fraaahnces · 11/01/2025 23:54

I’m afraid that I’m not one to limit you. Am world’s worst enabler. Maybe remind yourself that virtually everything can be purchased online and you wouldn’t have to carry it? I am sure that nothing is entirely unique and impossible to buy anywhere else anymore, right?

QueefofSheena · 13/01/2025 19:02

I’ve used up a few things including two jars of Moisture Surge, not sure why they were both open. I’ve just signed up for the Liberty beauty drop again though as I will want the AC this year. I’m not counting that, I need some treats 😬😁

Fraaahnces · 03/02/2025 03:53

I have finished a Laneige Pink Lemonade (swirly) lip mask. Lovely. Sad it’s gone as it was limited edition. I have a drawer full of lip masks. My lips will cope.
I have finished an enormous bottle of Korean Rhubarb-scented body wash. Was lovely, and did the trick, but skin is so dry I am still looking for a miracle.
Also done is a Balancium Comfort Mist by Cosrx. Lovely. I have others to use first, but would consider rp in the future.
Milk Shake Incredible Milk Leave In Conditioner. I’m not crazy about the caramel/vanilla scent or the spray bottle, but the product itself is fabulous when sprayed into my hands and squished into damp hair. I have a JBeauty one now. Sooooo good.
That’s it for now!

Fraaahnces · 11/02/2025 00:24

So I just moved house and after a big edit of makeup, hair and skincare, I have to admit to having a huge problem. What I have kept needs to be used or tossed within the next 6 months, or I am going to have to put myself in rehab!
I just finished a bottle each of Fino Shampoo & Conditioner. Whilst I really love the product, the scent is overwhelming. I have refill packets of Shiseido Tsubaki shampoo & conditioner to reuse in these bottles. (They’re all Shiseido so I hope it’s the same juice with a better scent.) I had swapped from the Fino Mask to the Tsubaki one, which I just remember I finished before moving. I have one of each in my stash. Whilst I think the Fino has the edge, I will use the Tsubaki first as it’s summer here and my hair needs more TLC in the winter. I am undoubtedly over-generous when using this too. I use almost every wash and it lasts about two months.

I have a Natasha Denona palette that I like, but I don’t love it. I am contemplating pulling the shades out that I use and seeing if other loose eyeshadows fit in the palette. (It is the I Need a Warm Palette. I loved it until I bought the I Need a Nude one, which suits me better.)

Minnie123456 · 11/02/2025 22:55

@Fraaahnces I know how you feel. I'm starting to feel overwhelmed with the amount of products I have. I am making more of an effort to use my stuff though and feel happy when I finish something.

I really need to declutter my make up box, there's plenty in there that has expired as I rarely wear make up. I am going to try and wear it at least once at the weekend.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 13/02/2025 21:43

For eyeshadows some people reuse them to make watercolours! And they look very pretty. Just need a binding agent and mix very well and voilà, a new watercolour palette.🎨

mcmooberry · 13/02/2025 23:27

Well my Stylevana parcel arrived today which all started with @Fraaahnces recommending that Fino hair mask so I ordered that and 2 other hair masks including an 8 second one when in a rush, plus some laneige lip balms plus some biodance collagen masks and some cleansing oil. So I am basically back where I started or worse and my Elemis cleansing oil appears immortal so goodness knows when I can even move on to another cleanser.

Fraaahnces · 14/02/2025 03:42

@mcmooberry - sorry for enabling you! I hope you love it all. Just remember with the masks, squish all the excess water out of your hair before applying (below ears was the advice given to me). Squish it in from the bottom up and then rinse when you want to. THEN go back in with conditioner and rinse that too. I swear the technique has helped my hair so much! It’s looking very tatty because I haven’t had a trim or anything done since May, and it’s longer than it’s been since before I had kids (20 years ago) and apart from the tatty ends, it’s stronger but still soft and shiny.

Fraaahnces · 17/02/2025 21:07

I am loving the Shiseido Tsubaki Shampoo & Conditioner even more than the Fino. (I have Volume & Repair variety.) Between that and the matching mask, I feel like my hair is stronger and it’s also super soft and shiny. I also prefer the scent. I feel like the shampoo goes further too.
I follow this with ORBIS Essence In Hair Milk - can use this one quite liberally as leave-in conditioner. I have others in my stash that weigh my hair down but this is fabulous and effective. Love that it’s a pump bottle.
I have also started using Lador hair oil. (Stylevana again.) They have three scents and they’re all delicious. I alternate between Pitta and Hinoki most days and use the slightly more viscous Osmanthus before showering. I would love body products scented like all of these! Only need a couple of drops in my palms and squish it through like conditioner then brush.

Minnie123456 · 01/03/2025 09:36

So far I have managed to talk myself out of ordering some dupe perfumes as I can't afford the originals. I'm really trying to stay strong and telling myself no😂

I'm really considering cancelling my beauty drop subscription as I really don't need to add to my stash but I'm afraid of not being able to resubscribe again at a later date and I know I would have fomo.

I haven't tried my fino hair care yet as my current shampoo is taking forever to run out 🤦‍♀️

moimichme · 01/03/2025 21:05

Don't do it, @Minnie123456 - you can always buy the dupes or the real ones later. FOMO often results from a marketing ploy, really. Stay strong!

I received a few more items (lilac perfume, my fav) for my birthday so I'm up slightly in terms of my stash, but I've managed - despite a few strong temptations - not to buy anything else for myself. I got a Father's Day gift (put aside) for DH along with my free birthday gift from Sephora (a full size moisturising face mask, quite pleased with that even if it's not a fancy brand).

Good luck everyone with only buying needed hair, SPF and other purchases. 😊

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 01/03/2025 21:31

@moimichme what lilac perfume? I recently purchased Lilas by Fragonard and it’s ultra realistic and I love it

Minnie123456 · 02/03/2025 18:28

Thanks for the encouragement @moimichme . I might treat myself to a bottle at the end of the year if I manage not to buy any between now and then.

moimichme · 02/03/2025 19:28

I shouldn't encourage you, @Thereislightattheendofthetunnel 😊 but it's a French Lilac by Pacifica, an American company. Lovely for the springtime/summer. I will not look up Lilas by Fragonard until my birthday one is finished. (Yeah, right!)
