Mary Jane shoes ...anyone else think they look awful?

Just that. I think they look like children's shoes and everyone seems to be wearing them in magazines because they are wearing "what's in fashion" ...infantalising.

Hmm they’re not really to my taste. But each to their own.

Whataretheodds · 20/10/2023 14:39

I don't love the way they look - they're annoying because they're not actually that practical/comfortable- thin soles, can't really wear socks with them.

But they're also not very pleasing on the eye (imho)

Hedgehog23 · 20/10/2023 14:42

I love them because I have wide feet and the rounded toe is really helpful for me and increases the chances I will get some to fit. I also walk out of shoes without laces or a strap so love the strap too.

Findyourneutralspace · 20/10/2023 14:43

I like them. They’re comfy. I’m no fashionista though 🤷‍♀️

HelpWithMathsStudy · 20/10/2023 14:45

I’m on the fence. Sometimes they look okay, sometimes I don’t like them. I won’t be buying any, they definitely don’t suit me. I would look ridiculous in them.

Saverage · 20/10/2023 14:45

I like them as they have a strap, I can't keep heeled shoes on my feet otherwise. Not a fan of flat Mary-Janes.

Inkypot · 20/10/2023 14:46

Love them! They're comfy and I have lots of patterns and colours of them. My favourite style of shoe and I don't see it as infantilising at all. I'm in my mid-40s, if I want to wear dolly shoes or whatever else that's my business and nobody else's. I can't think what would bring me to judge what someone else likes wearing, wear what you like not what you feel you should wear to fit in.

TeenLifeMum · 20/10/2023 14:47

So much better than stilettos. I quite like them and dd1 looks nice in them (age 15).

McIntire · 20/10/2023 14:50

Are they back in?
Great! I have a fab pair in the top of my wardrobe I’d completely forgotten about until I read this thread

McIntire · 20/10/2023 14:51

Mine aren’t infantile, they’re quite sexy actually.
DH loves them

BastetsWhiskers · 20/10/2023 14:51

They wouldn't suit me

SingingSands · 20/10/2023 14:53

Oh, why do you think they are infantilising?

I like them, they're a classic style.

BigHeartyTruffle · 20/10/2023 14:54

I love my cream leather DMs Mary Janes!

greengreengrass25 · 20/10/2023 14:55

I like them as they support my feet and stay on.

Most shoes are too wide and offer no support

rickandmorts · 20/10/2023 14:56

My Doc Marten Polley's are my comfiest pair of shoes. Love. Them. Go well with jeans or a dress. Very pleased to hear they're fashionable as I've had them about 10 years 😂

Elmo230885 · 20/10/2023 14:57

Loving my DM Mary Jane's. Don't really care if anyone else doesn't like them.

Verite1 · 20/10/2023 15:00

There is such a wide range of styles but ultimately they are just a shoe with a strap across. I quite like them as I have a high instep and shoes sometimes slip off. I don’t know why you think infantilising.

The low heeled ones look like children's shoes to me...but each to one's own.

@Livelifelaughter so are you meaning women should only wear them if there's a heel? Didn't realise we were still meant to be uncomfortable and only wear stereotypical grown up shoes now. Sod that Hmm

disappearingfish · 20/10/2023 15:10

My feet are different sizes so I can't reliably wear courts. Mary Janes or some other strapped shoe is my only option!

Embelline · 20/10/2023 15:12

Don’t really get why they’re infantilising. There are loads of styles of shoes that children wear as well as adults.

alrighthen · 20/10/2023 15:13

Love them!

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 20/10/2023 15:15

I have DM Mary Jane's too that are about 10 years old. They are my go to shoes when I need a formal pair.

LifesShortTalkFast · 20/10/2023 15:18

They look silly on me. I have tiny feet and that rounded toe makes me look like I have Minnie Mouse feet😂

Like every fashion choice they look amazing on some people and not so much on others.

MidnightOnceMore · 20/10/2023 15:22

They are not infantilising Confused

Personally I like them, although I haven't worn them for years.
