Mary Jane shoes ...anyone else think they look awful?

Just that. I think they look like children's shoes and everyone seems to be wearing them in magazines because they are wearing "what's in fashion" ...infantalising.

I’d take a pair of Mary- Janes any day over a pair of crappy ballet flats or those clodhopper- type trainers!

JustAMinutePleass · 20/10/2023 17:25

They are impractical and put girls off exercise as their feet hurt / get wet when they run. But if you’re a grown up and like them then wear them

AutumIsOrange · 20/10/2023 17:26

The high heeled LK Bennet / Monolo dupes are heavenly. Every other pair linked to on here leave me cold.

Huh? How do Mary Jane's get wet or hurt your feet any more than any other type of shoe?

McIntire · 20/10/2023 17:29

Mine were originally T-Bar (even more infantile) but I cut the T bit off

McIntire · 20/10/2023 17:36

….. and as if by magic, a Dune T-bar shoe pops up on FB ads

nancypowers1983 · 20/10/2023 17:45

I like these ones (went on a Google search for Mary Jane's as I've always called them dolly shoes)
Personally I like them and since I'm short with tiny feet anyway I just look like I'm wearing my big sister's shoes if I try to wear sensible office-y shoes Wink

I agree some of them look like children's shoes but it depends on the style. I waa thrilled to find that they're in fashion as I'm another one who can only wear heels with a strap and I really like the way these look. I'm disappointed to find that the flat styles look a bit rubbish on me though and are uncomfortable (at least the few pairs I've tried)

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 20/10/2023 17:54

I’ve got several pairs of the Chie Mihara MJs and they’re gorgeous and beautifully made.

2023shady · 20/10/2023 18:00

I have these for work, really comfortable

Those are lovely Nancy.

I like Mary Jane's and have loads.

WhatWillIWear · 20/10/2023 18:08

I remember sighing over these - Marni - last year.

Wide feet and the start of arthritis - I’ll go for comfort every time, and I think they look quite stylish with opaque tights or with trousers. They are comfortable and stay in place, I don’t really care what other people think. You wouldn’t want to know my views on ballet flats!

WhatWillIWear · 20/10/2023 18:11

And most of these, more recently.

The red pair are Toteme. The others can be found at Matches.

Hot chocolate, I have a few pairs of heeled ones from there and they are really comfortable

ChaToilLeam · 20/10/2023 18:28

I love them. I have small, wide feet and a high instep and it’s hard for me to keep some styles on. Mary Janes also go well with the stuff I like to wear. Not in the least bit infantile!

AllWeWantToDo · 20/10/2023 18:29

I have the Alice in wonderland and the pirate ones

No, I like them. Court shoes won't stay on my feet - I have wide, strangely shaped feet but very narrow heels for some reason - so a strap is a must if it's not a high-fronted shoe.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 20/10/2023 18:35

Me too, very narrow feet so need a strap.

DramaAlpaca · 20/10/2023 18:37

I love them. I ordered a navy suede pair online last week and they arrived today, they are lovely.

Finfinfin · 20/10/2023 18:41

They give me a creepy Clarks First School Shoes vibe.

Plus they're hugely unflattering and I've never seen an outfit that works well with them and wouldn't look better with different shoes.

There are some outliers pictured on this thread which (unusually) look ok. But we all know that the majority just look shit on anybody over 11.

rosesforpoppy · 20/10/2023 18:52

What does sighing over mean? @WhatWillIWear Sorry had a google but not familiar with that expression and cant work out if you like those silver shoes or not.
