Mary Jane shoes ...anyone else think they look awful?

Just that. I think they look like children's shoes and everyone seems to be wearing them in magazines because they are wearing "what's in fashion" ...infantalising.

I have the heeled DM ones, never been in so much pain in my life as I was the one time I wore them

Depends on the style. The chunky sort, or those that look too much like Alice in Wonderland (patent black)
I don't much like. Some can look ok.

In the 80s after Brideshead was popular I remember buying beautiful shoes from Ravel with low shaped heels and leather ties across the instep, 20s style

I love Mary Janes.

I have very small feet with short toes which are square like children's feet and I can't keep court shoes on but I can wear Mary Janes and lace-ups:

if I was a LOT thinner they'd be my style!

I still think of them as impractical school shoes (because the dds feet would get wet! Didn’t make that mistake the next time I bought shoes), not a shape or style that I like myself. Not seen a pair that I like but then I spend 95% of my life in trainers so not a fashionista 😂

I think they're OK with a heel, but the flats look a bit Grayson Perry on anyone over 8.

100% this love my dm Mary Jane shoes. Wear them a lot in winter with skirt/opaque tights

They don't do it for me. The heeled ones make even nice legs and feet look like trotters, and the flat ones are just fugly.

But I like kitten heels and ankle straps, and I know lots of people hate both of those things. I partly like them because they suit me so well (small and slender with nice ankles and calves). Whereas Mary Janes just make me look flat-footed, and make my feet look five times their actual size.

I agree OP. They look like toddler's shoes to me.

I've been looking at Wearsmymoney on Ista and I usually like her style but even on her the toddler shoes look silly.

No I like Mary Janes. What I dislike is kitten heels and square toe shoes or sandals.
