I am getting married and don't know what I want, but know I don't want white or traditional.

@LauraDLoves such a lovely and timeless wedding ensemble. Your mother made the top ❤️ together, the skirt and top are perfection. It speaks to what I connect with style wise and just everything.

I am loving this thread. All the dresses 😍 I wore a traditional white dress but it was the only one I liked, all the others were so heavy and oppressive feeling. Mine was light as air, lace and tulle. I still have it and I still love it.

I love the idea of a light clear pink or a very pale blue dress. Enjoying seeing all the different styles and colors. So fun!

Phase 8 do lots of lovely dresses that pass well for weddings, quite a few have popped up on this thread. My one was called Oralie, from the petite range. I spotted it originally in a Debenhams concession (IIRC) but ordered directly from Phase 8 in their sale.

Adrianna Papell does very similar styles too.

I'm so impressed with all the handmade dresses. They are stunning and super creative!! Love the tartan one.

1990 here too! And with the most mahoosive bow across my butt!! There was some silver embroidery on it too and the bridesmaids were in silver.

There was a Turkish (I think) designer who made beautiful dresses in a similar style, I came across her by chance but couldn't' find the page again.

Sorry - I might have overdone it by saying 'as traditional as they come' but having been wedding dress shopping for the better part of a year I've seen quite a few like that. They're called 'asymmetrical' and are all the rage apparently.

I thought non-traditional was something that wasn't clearly a wedding dress, if not colour, the cut. That dress is white with a big , sweeping skirt, unmistakeable as the bride.

No beef with PP btw. It's a beautiful dress (and of course was just the inspiration). But definitely looks like a wedding dress to me.

I wore a silk/linen midnight blue shift dress from Joseph in the late 90's with a cream stole and blood red roses

Mine was this sort of shape but the top had gold beading and embroidery all over it, the skirt was ivory and calf length. Register office wedding.

One from here https://www.facebook.com/JoanneFlemingDesign but she seems to have disappeared after many poor reviews. A shame.

My dress was by needle and thread, quite non-trad but if I did it again I'd wear this by Safiyaa. Very much loving the cape!

I'd love something like either of these two but I wouldn't do the dresses any justice 🙁

Mine was a traditional style, but I went for white & claret.

It’s very similar to this photo except the front of the dress had a section of claret going down the front too, It sounds awful but it was beautiful, I wanted a full claret dress but couldn’t find one.

Nowadays you can get any dress you want in any colour you want so if I redid my wedding now I think I’d do a long black evening gown but I really still do love this “wedding “ style gown
