Can I see everyone's non traditional wedding dresses please.

Or any dress you'd love to get married in, or wear to a special event.

I am getting married and don't know what I want, but know I don't want white or traditional.

Thank you!

i don’t even know where our wedding photos are so I can’t offer you a photo but I can tell you what I did in the hope it helps. I got married in my late thirties and like you did not want the traditional white wedding dress. So I had a dress made pretty much like my favourite evening dress (effectively a fitted full length shift which fell straight from the hips) and I went to Joel & Son in Church Street and tried all sorts of silks against me to see what suited me best. I chose an eau de nil silk satin, it completely made my eyes stand out when I held it against my face and that was it, job done!

Good luck and have fun.

This was mine (stock photo tho, that's not me!!). From Phase 8, got it in the sale too.

Mine was similar to this - it was a vintage silk dress that I got for around £20. I wore fabulous red heels with it. I loved it and I've worn it several times since for Christmas and special occasions (and once just to the pub). I made my own red rose bouquet from a few bunches from a supermarket. We had a very small wedding away from our home town and a very large "after party" in the style of a mini festival where most of the budget went on booze and lovely food for everyone. Loved every moment of each event.

I wanted this so badly. Travelled halfway across the UK to the only stockist to try it on and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately was a little out of my budget and I was talked out of it. Loved my actual dress, which was practically identical but ivory. But this dress.... love it

Sounds divine. I'm also late thirties, so white would be a bit weird by traditional standards. Not that we are going for traditional

I got married in a red lace Phase 8 dress in NYC. No guests.

mm47 · 31/07/2023 17:39

If I were to do it now I’d choose a really flattering trouser suit, for me that would mean a fitted jacket and wide legged trousers. Maybe even spend a bit more on the understanding I would definitely be able to wear it again! And it could even be in cream as the outfit itself is so non-bridal (ok nowadays a trouser suit is not so unusual but it’s still not traditional!)

Scirocco · 31/07/2023 17:49

This, with a black and white scarf. I still love it and wear it, it's really comfortable.

This was mine from Seasalt. We had spent a lot of money on the house and I wanted a dress I could get a lot of use from. I love it. My DH managed to get a tie that almost matched

Lovely thread and some great dresses.

I would only ever elope or have a registry office wedding if I ever got married to DP, and I think I would want to wear a mini dress (would be a trouser suit but my legs are my best feature…for now).

Defiantlynot41 · 31/07/2023 18:37

Oh @QueenOfWeeds , that's gorgeous, my second choice was a very similar Droopy and Browns dress (giving away my great age)

BunnySneezes · 31/07/2023 18:38

I got married in a Needle & Thread (non-bridal) dress. Loved it.

Going back to 2002!
I really wanted to wear black but my mum talked me out of it. Instead I had this made by a family friend. The colours really suited the autumn day.
Still wish I’d worn a big flouncy goth number though.

This is mine - from ASOS!

A nice Scottish lady knitted the wedding shawl.

My first thought on seeing that picture was Droopy & Browns too! I lusted after their Grand Holbein wedding dress but couldn't afford it so had a dress made for me by a designer who had worked there. It was white but nowadays I'd plump for the Ophelia ballgown which had the huge balloon sleeves that ended in tight cuffs and a bit of a train at the back.
