Going strong for more than 8 years! Full of great reviews, reports of empties and despair over our ever growing stashes!

Aargh. Just lost a really long post!

@FiveShelties - glad you are feeling better and that your DH didn’t catch it. I get cold sores too and after my recent flu and covid jabs ended up with two plus a mouth ulcer. They have definitely ramped back up since I had covid vaccines. I had semi grown out of them.

@Fraaahnces - sorry to hear you are facing surgery. Sounds a bit scary. But worth it compared to the alternative. And it will be an excuse to pamper yourself with lots of nice healing and soothing products.

I kind of agree about not counting deodorants but at one point I did have quite a few in my stash. I now have one in use and one in stash usually. But soaps are an issue here! I switched from shower gel to soap a few years ago and ended up on a mad soap buying spree. I still have loads! Must count them.

We also have lots of cleaning stuff and food etc. @FiveShelties. We used to live in Bulgaria out of town and could potentially get snowed in. DH seems to think we still live there! He panics if we don’t have back ups for everything. We don’t manage to build up a stash of wine though as we drink it too quickly!

Experiment627 · 18/11/2023 10:28

@FiveShelties hopefully you are feeling even better now 💟

LOL @Fraaahnces "...a civic responsibility"... love that!
You are so right about the safe haven of this thread. Let's always keep it that way.
Hope you get what you need to be in better health xxx

I have some empties to report:

  • Superdrug Me+ retinol serum: quite similar to The Inkey List one except this one has 2% Tranexamic Acid in it. I used exclusively on my décolleté area and I do believe the skin is a better texture as a result.
  • Primark glyclolic acid peel off mask: been ages since I used a peel off mask (well except for pore strips). Only used this morning so hard to tell full result but TBH I am longing for the Murad face wash thing with AHAs in it.
  • Tres Bien impression of Stella Rose: bought this perfume balm ages ago on ebay as a potential dupe for Stella (before it was even discontinued 😫😫😫). Not really a tres bien dupe but smells nice anyhoo. I can no longer find it anywhere so no possibility of RP. So handy for travel as came in a tin and is solid (unless exposed to heat).

Counted soap. 20 bars. Plus 6 body scrubs. And four shower gels. That is definitely excessive!

I buy handmade soap by the block. You get about 10 bars per block. I currently have 2 almost full blocks plus about another 10 bars. I think I have a soap problem...

I’m sorry your DH is taking Warfarin. I know the blood test schedule well as I worked as phlebotomist before I started my current job and studying. I always used to take extra care to use paediatric needles on people getting an INR test to try and avoid bleeding and bruising. I am facing a surgery (no idea when, though… still awaiting further tests) and will need Warfarin too. Sigh….. aging is just great said nobody at all.
One thing I love about this thread is the sense of community and acceptance. There has been one of the bitchery I have been seeing on other threads. I even joined a thread that I have been following (name changed) to let them know that not only had it degenerated into a joyless, competitive space full of know-it-alls, they needed to learn how to apologize and NOT sound sarcastic when they’re called out. So pleased we have managed to potter through for so long without attracting “Mean Girls”.

Best of luck with the surgery. It's hard not knowing when as it's always there in the back of your mind.

FiveShelties · 18/11/2023 01:19

I am feeling so much better today thank you @listsandbudgets but am really surprised at just how awful I felt. I am normally really healthy but it has definitely knocked me for six. I have three horrible cold sores which I keep glaring at but they don't care. Trying to do tiny things and slowly as do not want to go backwards - like many I take my good health for granted.

So I am now going to start on the grand use up, although I am just wondering if I should have sorted everything out in type rather than date. Will have a think about that one.

Glad you're feeling better. Covid is so variable. Some people barely know they have it and then others are floored.

PomRuns · 18/11/2023 17:54

@Fraaahnces siery to hear you have to have surgery. @FiveShelties glad you are feeling better. @Peridot1 I don’t think that’s too bad….

Sainsburys have half price sanctuary gift sets. I managed to resist - would be good presents for teens I think?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 18/11/2023 18:33

Finished a M&S Pure collection daisy shower cream, was nice enough not a strong scent though, have the shower gel to use up next. It was part of a large gift set with soap, bath salts etc.

I've opened a lovely bar of handmade soap a friend gifted me, it is making my poor scabby skin a bit dry but its also amazing how much cleaner you feel using soap!

Cyclingmummy1 · 19/11/2023 08:07

@Experiment627 my son quite likes Ted Baker. No idea which flavour it is though 😆

CorneliaStreet · 19/11/2023 08:21

@Experiment627 I love that Murad AHA cleanser. I’m using it at the moment and it makes my skin so soft!

OpheliaLibra · 19/11/2023 09:30

Okay to join? Trying to get things under control, but I live mere miles from an Ulta AND a Sephora, so it’s usually pointless to resist. Should I also mention my mild subscription addiction?

OchonAgusOchonOh · 19/11/2023 10:09

Lé Mara body butter. I love this but it seems to have been discontinued 😟. It's an Aldi one and they are still doing Lé Mara but this is never there.

Nadúr lip balm. This is a burt's bees dupe from Aldi and is fabulous. Discontinued too😟. I have one more I think and that's it then.

Restore and renew serum. I normally go for lift and luminate so not sure why I ended up with this. Presumably some offer. Anyway, it's much the same. I like it and will probably rp in the future.

Colour Wow. I got this in last year's CB advent calendar and love it. I've bought the Aldi dupe so will see how that goes.

Origins Ginzing eye cream. This turns up in every M&S box, calendar etc. I really like it though.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 19/11/2023 12:07

I've finished a full size Aveeda botanical repair leave in strengthening treatment. I honestly love this stuff, which is handy as it seemed to be in everything M&S put together for a few years. I've another full size one to use up.

I have so many hair products to use, I only blow dry my hair in the winter, in the summer I tend to just use the aveeda treatment or similar, so its slow going but hopefully going to get a few more ticked off in the coming months.

Might have to give away the Elastasizer though, who has time to damp their hair and leave it on 10 mins BEFORE getting in the shower?!

Peridot1 · 19/11/2023 12:12

@LivingDeadGirlUK - I like the Aveda one too but am never sure how much if it to use. And I get you abut the Elasitizer but I have to say when I can be bothered to use it it works really well.

Peridot1 · 19/11/2023 12:17

A few empties from me.

Zelens Power D. Supersize one from a Caroline Hirons kit. Like it and use it a lot and have another same size in my stash plus I decant it into another bottle with a dropper as the spray on the big bottle goes everywhere.

Votary cider vinegar toner. Didn’t finish it as not keen.

Drunk Elephant C Tango eye cream. Seemed ok but I need something a bit more hydrating.

Augustinus Bader The Cream and The Rich Cream. I quite like them but would never buy. Have a bigger size of the Rich Cream in my stash.

Farmacy Green Clean cleansing balm. Really like this and bought a full size when I was in the US a few weeks ago.

@Experiment627 it's tobacco and cedar wood.

listsandbudgets · 19/11/2023 12:46

A few more empties

a sample and a smallish tube l'occtaine almond milk body cream. always quite liked this one will probably RP one day

Clinique dramatically different mostorising lotion. I used to love this but it seems not be a littlE light on my skin these days.

L'occtaine pivione flora hand cream..This.was from an AC.and.i love it. Happily still got a littlenbit of the matching perfume and another mini tube of hand cream

I've got really thin hair, my ponytail is about the size of a 5 pence piece, so using too much product is really easy for me unfortunately, its also why it takes ages to use any hair products up. With the aveda I use a 5 pence piece sized blob and it works really well.

Fraaahnces · 20/11/2023 04:04

Welcome @OpheliaLibra - very jealous of your access to Ulta. (And subscriptions although rather grateful they haven’t really caught on here in Aus atm)

OpheliaLibra · 20/11/2023 04:53

Thank you, @Experiment627 and @Fraaahnces, I’d been lurking on past threads for awhile and you all have inspired me to begin culling/sorting/logging everything into a spreadsheet. A rather daunting task. 😳

Peridot1 · 20/11/2023 08:12

Welcome @OpheliaLibra! Very jealous of your Ulta access too! Probably just as well we don’t have one here! Good luck with the sorting!

OpheliaLibra · 20/11/2023 08:24

Ulta is a blessing and a curse, @Peridot1. They have great GWP specials that I always get sucked into. To be fair, though, I’m jealous of all your advent calendars, they only just startied to become a big thing here…

listsandbudgets · 20/11/2023 14:03

@LivingDeadGirlUK For some reason I can't get my head round the botanical repair. How exactly are you supposed to use it and for how long?

After washing and leave in. Before washing and rinse out... on wet hair and rinse out after a bit... or what.

I know it's crazy but I'm not getting it!!

Peridot1 · 20/11/2023 14:04

Having said I wasn’t buying an advent calendar I bought two this morning!

Not beauty though! A jam one and a Christmas jigsaw one. I always buy a Christmas jigsaw anyway and end up still doing it at the end of January but this way I can be doing it in the run up to Christmas. And we will definitely eat the jams.

Think I’m nearly more excited than I would be if it was a beauty one! 😄
