Going strong for more than 8 years! Full of great reviews, reports of empties and despair over our ever growing stashes!

@MavisMcMinty gosh you've convinced my any buy is worthwhile.

MavisMcMinty · 16/07/2023 11:51

Seriously, come the apocalypse, we’ll be the survivors with our lovely barterable skincare.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 16/07/2023 12:59

@Fraaahnces good to know! Even better it’s an indie brand.

I have checked and it’s still for sale but new packaging and possibly reformulated - it’s been ten years so fair enough. Not sure if they ship to you though.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 16/07/2023 14:25

@Fraaahnces those eyeshadows sound ace. I'm a bit twitchy about them now I've hit 60, but I got a mini Caviar Stick, rose gold in the Hearst box. I'm actually rather liking it, as it doesn't seem to crease.

Good move to give stuff to the refuge. It's a shame you're not nearer, as at Crimbo I do a collection from here, my stash, and other locals to make up a make up bag with a basic first night survival kit for the local refuge (where I used to work). I wanted them to have at least a make up bag with some stuff, as they often leave home with nothing. It also allows me to put in hotel shampoo and body wash, and add a toothbrush & toothpaste, some sanpro, maybe a lipstick, hairbrush etc. I pass on a lot of make up bags that way, and also buy them all year from charity shops. They often have brand new ones.

I'll be doing it again starting about October for anyone who is interested in taking part again.

@MavisMcMinty i have loads of stuff still, so I shall be ok in the next Zombie Apocalypse! Grin

PomRuns · 16/07/2023 15:56

I’ve actually managed to get my stash down to 35 (not counting perfumes - probably 20ish of those).
I’m now feeling woefully unprepared for an apocalypse- I feel like advent calendar season might be my saving grace.

I forgot to say those eyeshadows look really lovely @Fraaahnces

I’m also a big fan of the caviar stick. Sephora do a more budget own brand option too which are pretty good.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 16/07/2023 16:43

checking in beautiful ladies 🤩

MavisMcMinty · 16/07/2023 17:53

Let me know next time you make up those bags, @SpongeBobJudgeyPants - I’ll donate a load of stuff. I particularly have loads of hand and body creams/lotions. And mascaras and black eyeliners! And loads of dry shampoos. And makeup. Everything!

Cyclingmummy1 · 16/07/2023 18:24

This thread makes me giggle, but also has a serious side. We have a local collection called 'tin on the wall' - the first Saturday of the month you put out a tin (or two) for the local food bank at the front of your house and volunteers collect them. I usually give custard and tuna, which are always on their list, but try to add beauty products as well.

Speaking of which, one empty today, the last of a pump bottle of body shop vitamin e moisturiser which just lasted to the end of our weekend away.

Experiment627 · 16/07/2023 19:51

Welcome @listsandbudgets!!! Love the name - can you help me with my budgets? 🤞🏼
No rules here - you do not have to count stash but it may help you get a handle on it to have all in one place. Also get some "quick wins" in to help motivate you and start with smaller items like sachets and samples.
I try and limit myself to one item from each category (like shampoo, conditioner, soap, cleanser, etc) and if you concentrate use on one item you will get through it faster.
But you do you. We are here to support and fan the flames of your addiction by talking about our HOLY GRAIL items

@MavisMcMinty I read a LOT about WW2!! And how prized was soap??? I often think when I look at all the categories of stuff I use (I mean I had 3 toiletries bag for the holiday I am just returning from) how would I have survived!!! And excuse me did they even have deodorant????

@Peridot1 we have that duality on this thread... but it is lovely to be in the company of other beauty addicts.

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants I will definitely be up for that again this year!

I have never tried the Laura Mercier caviar stick but I am just coming to the end of an ELF one that I have really enjoyed.

@Cyclingmummy1 love the tin on the wall concept 💜

Thanks @MavisMcMinty and @Experiment627 , I will probably start earlier this year, then I'm not faffing about with it at the last minute. I'm aiming for October.

Experiment627 · 16/07/2023 20:41

Sounds good to me @SpongeBobJudgeyPants

Two empty this week.

L'Oréal Age Perfect Cleanser. Always buy this good for getting makeup off. I've got a few more of these in my stash

Garnier Blends coconut conditioner. Does the job. Plenty of other conditioners in my stash

IndianSummer78 · 16/07/2023 22:06

Oops I lied, it's oats not coconut

Fraaahnces · 17/07/2023 00:41

@VanillaSpiceCandle Unfortunately here in Aus, the Urban Decay is with a store called Mecca Cosmetica. They have a VERY limited stock (suspect they’re winding it completely down tbh.) I could order through Cult Beauty but it ends up being $36 per eyeshadow plus $20 postage. Can’t justify it. Meanwhile, “Lithium” is also a fabulous shade if you like that formula. It’s more taupe.

Fraaahnces · 17/07/2023 00:46

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants I forgot to mention that the caviar sticks are amazing! So easy for a “one and done” look or to layer with. I have a voucher burning a hole in my purse atm, and I am thinking of using it later this year when all the Christmas packs come out. There is often one with caviar sticks, and that might be just the ticket. (Also keen on Glow Recipe or Tatcha, so no promises.)

Peridot1 · 17/07/2023 08:52

Love the sound of your boxes for the Refuge @SpongeBobJudgeyPants. Will definitely have some things to contribute.

Resisting the Cult Beauty Edit that is just out. But my Liberty Beauty Box will arrive tomorrow.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 17/07/2023 09:59

I was excited when I saw the email from Cult Beauty about the new edit but I'm not that keen on it. The blush won't suit me, I won't use the hair mousse and I'm sick to death of exfoliating products, I think I must have enough to dissolve a body in.

MavisMcMinty · 17/07/2023 10:02

Yes, I am getting better (believe it or not!) at resisting “amazing value” boxes. They’re only amazing value if I’ll use most or all or the contents.

I’m absolutely itching to open my birthday boxes, dunno why, I’ve easily resisted for the last few weeks. But the Liberty drop will arrive in the next day or two, I’ll make do with that.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 17/07/2023 10:25

@MavisMcMinty stay strong! You've resisted until now!

@Fraaahnces have to say the rose gold caviar stick is pretty good, and has converted me. It goes nicely over my old salamander eyelids and doesn't draw attention to wrinkles, which is why I've all but stopped with the powder ones! If only I had it to hand when I submitted my passport pic! The photo was actually rejected by the bot who claimed I had my eyes shut. I didn't. Grin

Fraaahnces · 17/07/2023 10:29

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants When I arrived in NYC aged 19, the very intimidating customs official looked at my photo in my passport then at me sideways… then he said, “You know Honey, when you begin to look like this photo, it’s time to go home.” They haven’t improved at all.

MavisMcMinty · 17/07/2023 10:29

I took the passport photo instructions too literally, so combed my hair back from my face and wore no makeup, honestly, it looks like a mugshot. To make things worse, I needed to replace my driving licence online in a hurry (to hire a car overseas to attend a family funeral), so they used my passport photo and now I’m stuck with that shitty photo on both documents for YEARS.

Peridot1 · 17/07/2023 12:02

They do say that if you look like your passport photo you should be dead I think! Mine are always awful!

MavisMcMinty · 17/07/2023 12:18

I had one really lovely photo of myself that I used for my work ID card, then they brought in super-tech ID badges with digital photos taken by the Trust photographer… another bloody police mugshot.

KickAssAngel · 17/07/2023 12:58

Thanks for the welcome and encouragement. We moved house a couple of years ago and I've just got round to sorting out my stash. I have a6 drawer craft box on wheels that I took all my sewing things out of, and it is now full. Someone up thread said they have 35 pieces of make up. I think I have a few hundred! The thing is, I have regular daily wear things, special nights out stuff and then a few things I've tried that are OK and I'd wear them in a pinch, but I don't want to throw them out. I also keep free samples and mini things for travel.

How do you decide if eye shadow is done? I have some that hardly any color comes off the blob in the packet, so do I get rid now? I have a problem with throwing things out (probably half my stash) so when do you all decide that something is fished?.
