Going strong for more than 8 years! Full of great reviews, reports of empties and despair over our ever growing stashes!

@OchonAgusOchonOh 61 is great.
I still have about 30 unopened things plus I’ll buy things in the sales and maybe an advent (or 2….)

I have two advents but they don't count yet😁

FiveShelties · 16/11/2023 00:38

@Fraaahnces yes I think you are right, it has not been the best year but everything done and dusted, just concentrating on getting well, my husband has been amazing. @PomRuns many thanks.

Right confession time - I have added all the things I brought home to all the stuff I already had, and the total is 321. That includes everything from shampoo, deodorant, mascara, lipstick, moisturiser etc etc and that is absolutely shocking. I think it is probably a very good thing that the M&S AC sold out before I got my paws on one!😂

PomRuns · 16/11/2023 06:26

@FiveShelties I think you’re being a bit strict counting deodorants, shampoo and make up??I’d be way over hundred (must get rid of lipsticks that are probably 20 years old).

Enjoy your 2 advents @OchonAgusOchonOh
I must order mine soon- fomo

FiveShelties · 16/11/2023 07:01

I know @PomRuns, but originally I was just interested as to how much the total would be - now I am amazed just how high it is! I am on a huge use up starting now.

Peridot1 · 16/11/2023 08:12

I would be afraid to count the amount of items I have! It’s a lot!

Well done for doing it @FiveShelties. Hope the shock doesn’t cause a relapse!

Experiment627 · 16/11/2023 09:44

@KimberleyClark are you named for the YouTuber? Sorry if I have asked this before!

@FiveShelties what an impressive stash - take JOY in working through it xxx banish the guilt!

I ordered some items from the new Timotei range - they smell divine (like Bulgari Green Tea) but nothing like I recall.

I am yet to land on an advent... although have got 3 ready for my DS.

No, it’s a name I see in public toilets on loo paper dispensers etc!

Empties from this week:

Caudalie Vinopure purifying gel cleanser - 30ml. I thought from the name that this might be a bit stripping on my skin, but it wasn’t, it was actually a really nice cleanser. Would consider RP in the unlikely event I ever need to buy more face wash.

Inkey List polyglutamic acid serum - 30ml. This felt nice going on and I think it did have a hydrating effect. It smelled horrible though, like paint stripper or something. That might be an Inkey List thing, as their tranexamic acid serum smells horrible too.

Perricone MD face finishing and firming moisturiser - 15ml. From a Red beauty box. This wasn’t moisturising enough for my skin on its own, but ok with a hydrating serum and sunscreen. Very strongly rose scented.

Cowshed Refresh hand cream - 50ml. Nice, but I prefer the Hydrate one from Cowshed, this one wasn’t as moisturising and I prefer the scent of the Hydrate.

Cowshed Kahai Wonder Balm - 15g. This was rubbish. The balm turned to an oil which just sat on the skin and never sank in. It also stung on any broken skin, which pretty much defeats the purpose of a balm.

Then a mini Laniege lip sleeping mask in vanilla and a Burts Bees lip balm in peppermint (a bit tingly, though not as bad as the original beeswax/menthol one from Burts Bees).

Also perfume samples - Autumn Vibes from Margiela Replica (because I’m literal), Lemon Sherbet from 4160 Tuesdays (lovely, my favourite of the ones I’ve tried from them) and Hera from Karen Timson (very full on orange blossom, way too strong for me).

@KimberleyClark 🤣🤣🤣🤣 you should take at KC on YouTube - she is anti-consumerist and you used to do beauty product videos titled "what I am not going ti buy". LOVE HER! She does not post much now - she is on stage too much I think (she is a drag Queen).

*take a look at her on...
sorry am a bit worse for wear

Any recommendations for body wash for my beloved nephew who is 18?

listsandbudgets · 17/11/2023 23:03

@Experiment627 Every 18 year old boy I know.smothers themselves Lynx. DD is in 6th form.and complains the common room stinks of it 😂 however i think you're looking for something a bit more upmarket so not sure. Joules and Fat Face and also Super dry do some nice ranges for men but honestly i know nothing about actual higher end stuff for young men.

@FiveShelties How are you feeling now? I hope its not been too horrible

Experiment627 · 17/11/2023 23:04

@listsandbudgets thanks. He is not really a Lnyx fan. His beloved TBS argan oil body wash has been discontinued. I might try something from H&B...

FiveShelties · 18/11/2023 01:19

I am feeling so much better today thank you @listsandbudgets but am really surprised at just how awful I felt. I am normally really healthy but it has definitely knocked me for six. I have three horrible cold sores which I keep glaring at but they don't care. Trying to do tiny things and slowly as do not want to go backwards - like many I take my good health for granted.

So I am now going to start on the grand use up, although I am just wondering if I should have sorted everything out in type rather than date. Will have a think about that one.

Fraaahnces · 18/11/2023 03:03

@FiveShelties - so pleased you’re feeling better and that your DH is a superstar. I’ve had COVID twice and got off very lightly so far… First time was a slightly sore throat, tiredness and a nose that poured like a tap. The second time was about 12th of D&V and then more tiredness. I have had 5 vaccinations so far. (Work requirement plus I have a heart condition.)
Agree that counting deodorant as a cosmetic is far too strict. I think deodorant and toothpaste are a civic responsibility. Was chatting with the poor checkout chick at the supermarket who had been trying not to gag at the stench from the guy in front of me and she saw me leaning as far away as possible while still remaining obviously in line. After he left, she inhaled very loudly and said that deodorant should be a legally mandated thing. Couldn’t agree more in this hot and humid hellhole.

FiveShelties · 18/11/2023 04:11

@Fraaahnces you made me laugh - thank you! I am so pleased my husband has not caught Covid as he also has a heart condition, not that it causes him any trouble but takes blood thinners, was Warfarin which was a real drag with all the blood tests. He has had all his injections and I see that I have to wait for six months after having Covid for the next one. He has been an absolute star and I am so very very lucky.

I think once I started counting and sorting I could not stop - I did draw the line at soap/toothpaste though. I don't know why I have/think I need all this stuff but have too much cleaning stuff, too many clothes, lots of food and if it is possible we do have a lot of wine. It must be a personality thing I think - not sure what I think is going to happen if I get down to the last bottle of moisturiser. But really that is going to be a long way away.😁

Not trying to make this thread all about me............... but can I just say thank you to everyone who has been so very kind to me whilst I was looking for a care home for my Mum in April, organising her funeral in May and finally selling and clearing her home in October - I am so very grateful, you are all amazing🤗

Fraaahnces · 18/11/2023 04:30

I’m sorry your DH is taking Warfarin. I know the blood test schedule well as I worked as phlebotomist before I started my current job and studying. I always used to take extra care to use paediatric needles on people getting an INR test to try and avoid bleeding and bruising. I am facing a surgery (no idea when, though… still awaiting further tests) and will need Warfarin too. Sigh….. aging is just great said nobody at all.
One thing I love about this thread is the sense of community and acceptance. There has been one of the bitchery I have been seeing on other threads. I even joined a thread that I have been following (name changed) to let them know that not only had it degenerated into a joyless, competitive space full of know-it-alls, they needed to learn how to apologize and NOT sound sarcastic when they’re called out. So pleased we have managed to potter through for so long without attracting “Mean Girls”.

Fraaahnces · 18/11/2023 04:31

*None of the bitchery, obvs!

FiveShelties · 18/11/2023 04:38

@Fraaahnces you are right, I was reading a thread about a poster disappointed with her curtains and asking for help and some of the responses were unbelievable, really horrible.

I was not clear my husband now takes Pradaxa which has alleviated the constant blood tests. I hope your surgery goes well, you will need lots of self care for that with luxurious products😀

Fraaahnces · 18/11/2023 05:07

I have to admit that the surgery news is a bit of a shock. I thought I was decades away from needing it, but I have just discovered that my ejection fraction is now only 26% and the rate at which my heart has been failing since menopause is very fast.

FiveShelties · 18/11/2023 05:29

Oh wow @Fraaahnces I can imagine that would be a shock. We think we are invincible until all of a sudden we realise we are not. If I can do anything, at any time, please PM me, even if you just want to know how many bars of soap I have! Take care💐

JMAngel1 · 18/11/2023 06:42

Oh god, despite saying I wasn't buying any beauty ACs\beauty boxes etc., I've just caved and ordered the L'Occitane TSV - I am an absolute sucker for Almond Shower Oil.

JMAngel1 · 18/11/2023 06:45

Sorry I've just read upthread and realised I've changed the tone - hope they can stave you off surgery with meds for a while.

listsandbudgets · 18/11/2023 08:07

@JMAngel1 me too. luckily have got a nearly finished 250ml bottle, an untouched 500ml bottle and a couple of tiny ones from GWPs.

that's quite a lot isn't it? Blush

FiveShelties · 18/11/2023 08:22

I am so pleased that we hardly have any AC in NZ. And a little bit sad too😂
