Looks like we ran out of space - welcome to a shiny new thread! (the 36th edition!)

Hope you approve of the title. 😁

As always, everyone is very welcome - we're most definitely open to Newbies. Come and discuss your Scent Of The Day (SOTD), old favourites, new infatuations, the best dupes and scents of any price point. We are very friendly! 😊

SOTD Miller Harris Fumee d'Alexandrie (or something, whatever, it's delish)

SOTE Zara Bohemian Oud (also delish)

I really want to try that Miller Harris one. What’s the cumin like in it? Is it very noticeable?

SOTD is Hacivat by Nishane.

Sotd 4160tuesdays clouds Illusion for a double b day and fathers day celebration
I've been baking for 2 days! 😬🎂🤞
Missing my dad today 💔

LadyOfTheCanyon · 18/06/2023 12:47

@mirages08

Ah I'd give anything to be able to smell Crabtree and Evelyn's West Indian lime cologne on my dad again.

FlowersFlowers for you.

TakeYourHatOffBoy · 18/06/2023 17:32

SOTD Clarins Par Amour. Found a bottle of this in the loft today, had forgotten about it but it's a lovely soft rose with loads of sandalwood. I get a lot of pencil shavings in this and then the drydown is a beautiful labdanum/amber, really gentle and pretty.

@mirages08 @LadyOfTheCanyon 💐 Sending warm vibes to you both.

Par Amour sounds gorgeous @TakeYourHatOffBoy What a happy find.

SOTD was Another Kiss by the Fireside. I've decided I don't really enjoy this - there's a weird dirty undertone to my nose (and not in a nice furry way) that I'm sure is oud, but frustratingly I can't see oud listed in the notes. Plus the lavender and rose combo smells like ribena imo, so I think this one is just not for me. I keep wanting to like it though, as the description and notes sound like something I'd love.

SOTN is my favourite Ambre Orient. Every time I wear this, I can't believe it's a dupe and so incredibly inexpensive. It's powdery, woody, amber-vanilla warmth always smells just right to me.

@whumpthereitis I can't say I notice cumin, in fact I don't detect it at all. If I did I probably wouldn't like the fragrance as I'm not big on spices! I mainly get a woody rose with a bit of leather and a nice musky drydown. My bottle was a TKMaxx bargain, it's worth looking out for. It was my SOTD today.

Par Amour really does sound lovely.

TakeYourHatOffBoy · 19/06/2023 08:25

Re: Par Amour; Luca Turin gave it 4 stars and said 'a perfectly judged soft, quiet accord of cedarwood, rose and blackcurrant buds...reasurring without being dull, simple without feeling basic, and transparent but not wan'. I would agree.

Obviously it's discontinued whilst twelfty million new Good Girl flankers stalk the shelves 🙄

I'm off sea swimming today so SOTD will be suncream, salt and seaweed!

That’s hopeful! Cumin is very hit and miss for me because it easily becomes dominant on my skin. I’ve loved the sound of the MH incense frags, but it’s been the one thing has made me wary. I’ll have to order a sample. Must check out TKMaxx too!

SOTD is Constantinople by Penhaligon’s.

I understand re: 4160tuesdays AKBTF...
It's the lavender note for me I think

On paper I should love it but...nope.

Sotd 4160tuesdays clouds Illusion ⛅️

LadyOfTheCanyon · 19/06/2023 13:52

Ahh thank you @FestivelyScent.

SOTD is Zara Bluebird Orchid. It doesn't have much longevity but the dry down has a lovely sour quality that reminds me of alchemilla mollis.

FestivelyScent · 19/06/2023 23:09

SOTD was Original Aramis, which is really a leathery chypre, seasoned with herbs. Great for summer. The literal side of me always thinks of leather suitcases, that new bag smell, and travelling whenever I smell this.

SOTN is Samsara.

Officially on a ban. Tidied up tonight and here is my collection Blush
Not including dupes or minis. It was interesting to see the type of scents I go for and to sort it into summer/winter

Ooh what is this Ambre Orient of which you speak? Sounds right up my street. Apologies if I am missing something obvious, I'm not often on fragrance threads so don't know all the shorthand and backgrounds.

Ooh! I spotted Falling into the Sea by Imaginary Authors. I’ve been curious about that house, haven’t tried anything of theirs yet though. Beautiful names and bottle designs.

SOTD is L’occitane Verbena and carrot flower.

TakeYourHatOffBoy · 20/06/2023 10:36

SOTD Diptyque Eau Duelle.

I'm a fan of Imaginary Authors. Memoirs of a Trespasser, The Soft Lawn and Slow Explosions are favourites, although I've not tried some of the newer ones. They have a rather nice-looking discovery set iirc, if you need any enabling @whumpthereitis!

It's a dupe from Perfume Parlour of Armani Prive Ambre Orient, which Armani themselves have discontinued, but which was hideously expensive anyway. You can see reviews and notes for Ambre Orient on Fragrantica. I love it's powdery, woody, ambery warmth and find it very comforting. I have the oil version, but there are sprays too, and I tend to find the Perfume Parlour dupes smell richer somehow after about two weeks. It does have quite a dusty opening, but the rest is gorgeous (to me). 😊

SOTD jil sander sun

SOTD was Apres L'Ondee. I have been waiting for appropriate rain to wear this new sample, and we had a thunderstorm early this morning. Hmm, I smell the similarity to my new favourite L'heure Bleue, but I think I prefer LHB - it has more structure, and its woody vanilla heart lends body and an endlessly sniffable powdery base. I like the violet-iris heart of ALO, but I also get a distinct pear note, which was unexpected. It does live up to its name though; it evoked a garden after rain fairly accurately, although without any petrichor. I'm just not completely sure I want to smell like that. More wears needed.

SOTN is Miss Dior Originale - crisp and green.
