Looks like we ran out of space - welcome to a shiny new thread! (the 36th edition!)

Hope you approve of the title. 😁

As always, everyone is very welcome - we're most definitely open to Newbies. Come and discuss your Scent Of The Day (SOTD), old favourites, new infatuations, the best dupes and scents of any price point. We are very friendly! 😊

FLOOFY! Hello! How the bloody hell are you? This thread has kind of died off but people post on and off so it pops back up. Can we bring it back to its former glory? No SOTD yet here because I am rotting in bed with the cat (a different cat, we had to say goodbye to our gorgeous girl in April and have a little ginger boy now) and hoping DP will get bacon on the grill shortly.

CasadeCoca · 16/11/2024 11:41

Hey Floofy and Judy - sorry, I have had a gazillion name changes, and only drop by very occasionally these days, but still try and keep an eye on the thread. (Formerly did the LFP's Xmas calendars and was part of the thread outing to 4160's back in the day).

The calendars were lovely 🤍

StillFloofyButWithLessScentSense · 16/11/2024 16:48

I loved, and remember the calendars, I looked back on my phone where I typed/saved my review and would you believe it was 2018?! I had Prada Iris (cedar version?) and Penhaligons Malibar.

Hello everyone, I'm so sorry about your cat Judy, I am glad you have a little ginger boy now though, cats are just the best. I remember you had very cool hair too! It's funny the things you remember, my memory is patchy now, and my Spag is also worse so please forgive any errors! My sense of smell (and taste) disappeared and is coming back but differently. Ironically it wasn't covid as a lot of people experienced exactly the same at the time, mine was more a brain injury. A lot of my perfumes must smell completely different as a lot of my previous known favourites don't smell pleasant to me at all! But I'm trying to get back into it (our household budget has also changed radically as a result of my illness so it's testers or Vinted, no new full bottles!)

Talking of By the Fireplace, I have a (genuine) sample of it but it smells of nothing at all which is so odd! There are also a couple of Tom Fords I also cannot smell at all including Tobacco Vanille, and I do remember that smelt very strong to me previously. It's very weird.

SOTD is Mary Greenwell Plum which I'm eking out as it smells lovely to me. Fruit and flowers but I can't quite work it out/identify notes yet. I'm a perfume newbie again!

Nice to see old posters, we should definitely keep it going. I remember lots of love for 4160s and have sniffed some that were in my A/W box. Centrepiece was good, smelt like marzipan.

I remember the 2019 calendar and being really ill with what I now wonder might have been Covid - lost taste and smell until mid February - and just posting a photo of my cat one day! So sorry to hear you have had such a rough time health-wise. It must be so disorientating, not to mention the implications for work etc. I’m really glad to see you back here 🤍

SOTD ended up being Glossier You. We went to see Paddington in the cinema so I didn’t want anything big.

Here’s our wee orange menace. He dances 🧡

itsnothingoriginal · 16/11/2024 21:03

Oh... I think I need to test Centrepiece as to smell like marzipan would be heaven!

I read in Sali Hughes Guardian column today that there is a new Glossier You - Reve which I'm interested to try being a massive fan of the original. If anyone here has tried it yet please do let me know what you think!

SOTD Estée Lauder Infinite Sky

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/11/2024 22:50

@itsnothingoriginal there are two new Glossier fragrances. That one is a gourmand and doesn’t appeal to me, but the other one (I think called Deux?) sounds more up my street. It’s annoying not to be able to test them - our Space NK closed after lockdown. Similarly Merit has a fragrance which sounds along the same lines, and I have put it on my wish list for MIL as a potential Christmas gift, blind.

StillFloofyButWithLessScentSense · 17/11/2024 11:25

Clearly dancing cat, is part meerkat! (Meercat?) He looks ADORABLE!

I didn’t know about the Glossier perfumes, DD loves the OG (as she would say) so I’ll look into that. In thr past, if I’ve bought anything from them like the brow stuff for DD, they have included samples so maybe they’ll be doing that with the new ones if anyone wants to try them?

FestivelyScent · 17/11/2024 21:42

Hello wonderful fragrant friends! I got a surprise notification that someone had posted on my thread and am so, so happy to see (read?) familiar faces!

Sorry to hear about your DCat @Judystilldreamsofhorses I also remember you posting a pic of him and I can still picture his snowy fur in my minds eye. DGingerCat looks a real personality.

I'm so sorry to hear about your ill health @StillFloofyButWithLessScentSense That sounds unimaginably tough and stressful. I remember you from the original threads when I was still a lurker. If you don't mind me saying, I think you still write with the same friendly voice I recall finding so warm and lovely. 😊

It's funny this thread should pop up now. I haven't worn any scent for a year, maybe more ( something I could never have imagined writing) due to awful daily migraines, which I now think are linked to possible lupus (but getting the Dr to recognise my symptoms is something else).

I was thinking about trying out a drop of something fragrant only the other day. I'm taking this thread resurfacing as a sign I definitely should get out that old bottle of Obsession I've been ruminating over for a little test. It is one of my favourite Christmas scents and will make me feel all festive! 🎄🎁

Gosh, it’s a perfumista reunion! I’m sorry to hear you are still not keeping so well, and also that you are struggling to get the doctor on side. Even getting an appointment here is like Squid Game.

Yes, our lovely cat - it was heartbreaking. We’d had her to the vet a few times for puking but they were never fussed as she was otherwise absolutely well - eating like a horse, no weight loss, catching mice, just her normal self. I pushed for more tests when we took her for her boosters in March, and it turned out she had a massive cancer in her stomach. Even the fancy pants specialist vet who did all the fancy pants scans was astonished as she had said that morning she expected it to be a kind of cat IBS. We could have tried chemo with her but it would have only bought a little time and she found the vet/caretc so very distressing, we opted to let her go “well”. I miss her so, so much. Our wee boy has landed on his paws though. This time last year he was a 10 month old kitten living in a woman’s shed/garden 😢

Hello all you lovely fragrant people Smile
This is just a very quick hello as I'm supposed to be working, but it's so nice to see this thread revived again.

Gorgeous cat photos @Judystilldreamsofhorses I miss having a cat. @FestivelyScent sorry your health issues are still ongoing, I hope you can get your doctor to listen to you.

FestivelyScent · 18/11/2024 20:58

What lovely photos @Judystilldreamsofhorses Finding out about your cat's cancer so suddenly and unexpectedly must have been horrible. I'm so sorry.

Hello @DramaAlpaca 👋😊 It's nice to see people returning to the thread. Hopefully we can keep it going.

SOTD was BTF and I really haven’t enjoyed it - it’s a few years old and I wonder if it’s turned or something. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood. It’s been snowing here 🥶

CorneliaStreet · 19/11/2024 07:07

Hi @FestivelyScent, good to see you back but sorry to hear you are still struggling with the migraines.

Beautiful cats @Judystilldreamsofhorses. I adore our two but they are nowhere near as photogenic as yours!

I’ve gone off By the Fireplace a bit too. Still love the dry down but I find the smoky opening bit a bit synthetic and overpowering these days.

SOTD is Kayali Vanilla 28.

FestivelyScent · 20/11/2024 23:11

Thank you @CorneliaStreet 😊

So, SpaceNK arrived in our town a few months ago (actually, it might have been last year - hasn't time flown!) and they have the most gorgeous display of Diptyque fragrances and candles in their front window. Not being able to spray perfume, I hadn't been in properly until now (except for an Ultraviolette spf I had to turn because it made my eyelids swell), but I came away with a mouillette generously spritzed with Tam Dao.
Well:
A) Sniffing this all day didn't give me a headache (Yay!!)

B) It smells divine. Not exactly like real Mysore Sandalwood, but I didn't really expect that. The best thing is it's not synthetic at all, as some wood inspired fragrances can be, and it has the most wonderful powdery drydown, which attracts me like a moth to a flame. It also had a great balance between cool and warm tones, but probably leans more towards a cosy warm embrace.

All in all, not bad for dipping my toe back in the water. I now just need to work up to trying a safe fragrance on myself. 🤞

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/11/2024 11:51

That sounds like a bit of a breakthrough @FestivelyScent - long may it continue! Our SNK shut after lockdown, and so did our John Lewis, so my options to test in person are very limited now.

SOTD is Glossier You today. Yesterday was Chanel 19 as I had a GP appointmnet and always wear it for anything medical, and Tuesday was Diptyque Eau Duelle which feels perfect on wintry days. I am totally fed up of the snow now and really want it to go.

Magpiecomplex · 21/11/2024 18:21

SOTD is Penhaligons Luna. I was feeling in need of something assertive today!

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 22/11/2024 07:33

I know nothing about perfume, other than I like to smell nice!
Several years ago I bravely came onto this forum to ask for advice and was warmly welcomed. I was introduced to brands and fragrances I had never heard of, 4160 and Shazam! being just one.
Today I will be wearing Aesop Marrakech that was suggested and has become a firm favourite.
A BIG thank you to the friendly perfumistas.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/11/2024 12:27

SOTD YSL Libre. I haven't worn this in ages and had kind of forgotten how much I like it. I'm a real lavender lover!

@FormerlySpeckledyHen I've never met any Aesop products in the flesh but have a feeling they would be relevent to my interests.

Magpiecomplex · 24/11/2024 17:53

SOTD is 4160 Tuesdays Aqua Tofana. Quite short lived on me, but pleasant enough. Blind buy based on the description, and the fact it's inspired by a poison!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/11/2024 00:10

SOTD Marks and S Warmth.

Magpiecomplex · 26/11/2024 17:38

SOTD is DR Harris Twenty Nine. It's a cologne technically but a lovely warm and spicy rose.

Deathraystare · 03/12/2024 19:43

EvelynBeatrice · 19/09/2024 14:20

SOTD ( embarrassed to admit!) Victorias Secret Bombshell Oud. It bears a faint resemblance to my beloved discontinued Estée Lauder Sensuous Noir.

Interesting but I shall not ever buy there!!

SOTD Glossier You Doux
Got this as a sample size to try in my last SpaceNK order.
Don't like it as it smells like peppery cheap hairspray on me.
Even teenage DD didn't like it.

@Judystilldreamsofhorses YSL Libre is my all time favourite perfume - love the lavender & orange blossom in it.
And one of the base notes is Cedar - another favourite
