Looks like we ran out of space - welcome to a shiny new thread! (the 36th edition!)

Hope you approve of the title. 😁

As always, everyone is very welcome - we're most definitely open to Newbies. Come and discuss your Scent Of The Day (SOTD), old favourites, new infatuations, the best dupes and scents of any price point. We are very friendly! 😊

Welcome to the thread @cuthbertthecat 👋😊 The only good Lily of the Valley fragrance I can recall on the spot is Diorissimo, from Dior. It's quite a simple fragrance, so may appeal?

LHB is a true classic @TracyBeakerSoYeah

SOTN is Ambre Narguile. Totally inappropriate for the current weather, but not for the supposed season.

FestivelyScent · 08/10/2023 22:24

SOTN is Samsara.

No SOTD today, as left home in a hurry in order to make a train. Everyone in London is dressed as though it is high summer - lots of shorts, Tshirts, flowy dresses and stylish sunglasses. It's just bizarre. It doesn't feel like October here at all, and I keep doing a double take whenever I see Halloween displays and the first signs of Christmas in the shops.

SOTN is Miss Dior Originale. This would normally have been packed away by now, but here it is - a cool green, putting in a surprise appearance in what should be the seasonal territory of warm, cosy, cuddly things.

SOTD/E Juliette Has A Gun - Lust For Sun
Very warm here in the Midlands hence a summery scent

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 10/10/2023 21:56

sotd is La Vie est Belle iris absolu

FestivelyScent · 11/10/2023 13:05

SOTD yesterday was Spellbound. Will choose something for today later.

Magpiecomplex · 11/10/2023 18:10

SOTD is Penhaligons Luna. I'd forgotten how much I love this one, the only reason I don't wear it a lot more is I habituate to it quite quickly and stop being able to smell it.

FestivelyScent · 11/10/2023 22:50

SOTN is Samsara, for comfort, as I've had a horrible migraine all day today and yesterday.

DramaAlpaca · 11/10/2023 23:09

Sorry to hear that @FestivelyScent hope you feel better tomorrow.

SOTD Escentric Molecule 1 for subtlety at work
SOTD Mon Guerlain for its magnificent lavender and vanilla

I think I need to have a fragrance sort out, probably into seasons plus a selection of all-year all-rounders and absolute favourites. I've so many bottles and samples I'll probably find some gems I've forgotten about.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 12/10/2023 03:07

SOTD/E is Jimmy Choo - Rose Passion

CrimsonElevenDelightPetrichor · 12/10/2023 16:13

Can anyone recommend powdery perfumes preferably without vanilla? I have Avon Timeless, MH Powdered Veil & MH Violet Idea, but I fancy something different.
I'll get a sample of Chanel No 5, but I don't think that's quite what I'm after.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 12/10/2023 20:55

SOTD Van Cleef and Arpels Precious Oud. I love this when the weather gets colder. It's like a huge blast of essential oils ( in a good way). There's hardly any Oud, just a big sexy warm jasmine and patchouli blast.

mdinbc · 12/10/2023 21:59

@Cannotthinkofanametoday , try Devotion by Dolce and Gabanna. It's a recent purchase for me when I was looking for an autumn scent for daytime. Citrus top notes with vanilla base. It's really nice.

it's a new release, but now I see they are advertising it with Katy Perry (not that I'm a huge fan), so it should be more available.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 12/10/2023 22:32

@CrimsonElevenDelightPetrichor maybe not Chanel n5 but Chanel n19 instead. There is also a poudre version

FestivelyScent · 12/10/2023 23:02

Thank you @DramaAlpaca 😊 It's a bit better today. I'm just left with the fog now, so hopefully fully better tomorrow.

That sounds gorgeous @LadyOfTheCanyon And I say that as someone who doesn't really like oudh.

Have you tried Mitsouko @CrimsonElevenDelightPetrichor it has a beautifully warm powdery base. Lots of old fashioned Chypres do. Maybe that might be an idea, as they don't tend to feature vanilla? Modern chypres are more patchouli based, and not quite as powdered, and modern perfumes in general seem to dial up the vanilla to eleven.

Miss Dior Originale is quite green, but mellows down to a cool chypre-y powdery base. My SOTD, Samsara, is quite warm woody-powdery with a jasmine infused heart.

SOTN is Samsara.

Hooray hooray hooray for autumn.

I'm expanding my repertoire with a splurge on PP and APO oils.

SOTD is Lost Cherry. I have Covid so can't accurately judge the scent but will keep sniffing. I'm hoping it will be the sort of scent to bridge from summer into full throttle amber-y autumn!

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 13/10/2023 10:42

I'm looking for recommendations for lipstick scents. Sadly I didn't get hold of Lipstick On before it was discontinued :(

I have Misia and Dior Homme Intense.

Any recommendations? Thanks 🌻

Alazne58 · 13/10/2023 14:51

Rose Passion - Jimmy Choo ...sample vial

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 13/10/2023 18:13

@ThreeImaginaryBoys I know it might not be very helpful but there is a niche fragrance that smells like vintage lipstick. Something about Moulin Rouge but can’t remember the brand.

Also Prada candy with the pink cap.

Thereislightattheendofthetunnel · 13/10/2023 18:14

I am wearing Soap and Glory orangeasm. Very citrusy and not for autumn but who cares

sunglassesonthetable · 13/10/2023 19:03

Has anyone smelt the Jones Road 'Shower'. ?

AprilLady · 13/10/2023 19:11

@ThreeImaginaryBoys assume you have tried FM’s Lipstick Rose?

I love Misia.

FestivelyScent · 13/10/2023 23:07

4160Ts Dancing with Strangers. @ThreeImaginaryBoys Not quite lipstick, but a similar vibe, powdery musk, vanilla and lots of violets, with a hint of iris.
Also, Violet Ida from Miller Harris. Powdery, waxy violet-iris.

SOTN is Samsara, again.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 14/10/2023 00:20

SOTE is Floral Street Neon Rose

@ThreeImaginaryBoys I've had a sample spray vial of Histoires de Parfum's 1889 Moulin Rouge & it smelt like a mixture of lipstick & the powdery rosy smell of Chanel & Bourjois make up.
So this might be up your street.

@sunglassesonthetable I haven't tried Jones Road Shower

@FestivelyScent Samsara is a favourite of one of my Sister's

1889 Moulin Rouge

The night blankets the city of Paris. A colorful beam of light bursts from the Moulin Rouge. Inside, the cabaret comes to life.

@TracyBeakerSoYeah yes! That’s the one I mentioned above 😝
