You’re not at risk of pretending to be the bride, but you are at risk of standing out in the photos if you’re the only other person in white. I’d choose something else.

I really don't understand this.

How on earth would anyone wearing this pretty but ordinary day dress "stand out" over the bride? Or be mistaken for the bride?

People will "stand out" in photos for all sorts of reasons. Janina Gavankar "stood out" at Megan and Harry's wedding because of that stunning orange dress. (Frankly if you're not supposed to "upstage" the bride Ms Gavankar and her 2 Suits colleagues came close to it. They were stunning as a group) Beatrice and Eugenie "stand out" at almost every wedding they're at because they will be wearing something ridiculous on their heads.

Who cares looking at the photos after the event if one guest is more noticeable than another?

Petty bitchy people, that’s who.

MNers can sneer all they want at petty, bitchy, pearl-clutching judgements, but for me it comes down to this:

When a million other dresses are available, why in gods name would you wear one that MIGHT offend someone on an important, emotional, expensive day for them?

If you care enough to give up a day of your life attending their wedding, then you should care enough to wear another colour. End of!

BonnieLisbon · 04/05/2023 00:03

Nice dress but I wouldn't wear it to a wedding because of the white background

highlands21 · 04/05/2023 06:24

I think this is too white for a wedding. I don’t really understand these questions - just don’t wear any dress where white is the base colour and you’re grand!

While we're here, what do people think of this dress for a wedding?

Partner and groom are friends; I've only ever met the bride a handful of times and we have no mutual friends so hard to ask.

Also too white. Just get any of the millions of dresses out there that don’t have white as the base colour

Catlord · 04/05/2023 09:40

It's not bridal at all but I personally think it's a bit white for a wedding. Obv opinions on this will vary. If you were going to put a green jacket or wrap over it that would maybe change my mind.

Lalalalala555 · 04/05/2023 12:37

If you think it's potentially contentious, then you said it yourself. Don't get it. Don't risk ruining someone else's special day. Also risk feeling uncomfortable yourself. Just not worth it for a dress. Especially if you don't already own it.

Theres so many lovely dresses that aren't white.
I like to get my wedding guest dresses second hand. :)
I got a really nice silk one for £6 at a charity shop.
You can get loads on vinted and depop and ebay. Really good quality for great prices.

I do side with you that it's nice, and it might be fine. But it's really not worth it. Imagine if you were getting married and for some reason it upset you that someone wore that dress. Just not worth it. Who evers wedding it is, they've probably spent a chonk on it and put tonnes of effort into planning it. Been looking forward to it for ages. Be a considerate guest :)

Not sure if I’m too late…

I wouldn’t personally mind as a bride but I’d give it a miss incase you end up just feeling self conscious that it’s not appropriate all day.

How about something like this instead? Reverse the colours.

Great minds think alike :) I agree that a green with white spots dress is better.

Pipsquiggle · 04/05/2023 14:03

I would love it if OP @Noooooogsh would come back and tell us what she's decided

BellaVita · 04/05/2023 21:46

It’s lovely OP and I would wear it to a wedding.

Mumsie2023 · 04/05/2023 22:27

If you have to ask, then yes, it's too white. It's a beautiful dress, but I personally wouldn't wear anything close to white/beige/ivory etc etc if I wasn't part of the wedding party.

I can’t imagine for a minute that anyone I care about would care a jot about something like this.

Mandalayblonde · 05/05/2023 00:20

It's a white floor-length gown.

With a head dress.

It's very different.
