Hopefully going on a ‘hot’ holiday this summer and will need to pretty much start from scratch for a capsule wardrobe, as all I’ve got in my existing wardrobe are one very light cotton’wafting’ dress and a couple of well loved very soft cotton shirts.

I’m small and a bit round these days - size 14.

I like the look of Arket linen shorts and trousers, so will go and try those on.

I mainly like black and white in the summer. Any ideas for what I should be looking for? Arket prices are as high as I’m willing to go.

Reckon some shorts and another couple of dresses and I'll be okay!

The beach dress from M&S looks very nice

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/05/2023 18:44

Thank you. I've had them in the past and they're useful for slinging on to go to the pool, or wearing with a shirt in the evenings/days out.

Next do a great pair of linen shorts for £18. I bought them in black, and just re ordered white ones.

I have these JL linen shorts ( they were with reduction but unfortunately not now). Really good quality and fit/length

Thank you both. I like the structure of those.

Ended up with Arket shorts and this Zara dress

Is it sized appropriately @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie?
I'm very tempted by this or the yellow muslin.

I'm a busty 14 and bought a large. I don't think a medium would have fit on the chest. It's very loose on the waist, but I think that will mean it's nice and cool. I might chop a bit of sleeve off.

Thank you @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie. That's really helpful, as the exact measurements for that size is on the website. I now have an idea what size to order in the yellow, as my nearest Zara is over an hour away.

I found this on my La Redoute app! lr.app.link/LbpGQrLiAzb

This any good?

I've seen that Sainsbury's one in real life. Too much fabric/too thick, sadly.

I've got trainers already. If I get sandals, they need to be proper bouncy comfortable things.

Teva XLTs

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/05/2023 17:59

I was wondering about Teva but I've just ordered some Hotter Tourist ones, so will see what I think of those.

I don't like that La R dress, sorry. It has a whiff of a shroud about it.

I suspect it may be a bit long and drapey. I'm a bit stuck for dresses that are cool enough for a hot place. Went on a hot as hell holiday last summer and every dress I had was far too hot. I ended up in swim shorts and a linen t shirt most of the time as anything clinging was just horrible. We camped though so there was no escape from the blistering heat.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/05/2023 19:27

I've looked again and seen the black one. The link came up as a very shroud-like colour! Grin

Hahha. Ahhhh. Yes the black one is not bad. Just wonder if too much fabric

LadyOfTheCanyon · 06/05/2023 20:08

I have this. It's not 100% cotton but it's swinging enough that it feels like it would be really cool when it gets hot. And it has pockets!!!

*swingy!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 14/05/2023 22:51

Not sure if you're still looking OP, but my inbox suggests lots of retailers are dropping more proper summer pieces now, so it might be worth another look around stores you've already visited to see if there's anything new. I bought a few dresses etc. last spring for a hot holiday and realised nearer the time they weren't going to be cool enough, so I had to go shopping again and the options were much better.

For more comfy sandals for sightseeing etc. I got some from fit flop - worth a look to see if they're your cup of tea? They seemed a good half way point between lovely but unsupportive and comfy but not very attractive options that are out there.

Rina66 · 15/05/2023 13:34

I'm actually on holiday at the moment, things I wish I'd brought with me, which perhaps should be a whole new thread!
•Linen over shirts
•Sandals with a strap to keep them on
•Strappy dresses (bra and swimming costume friendly)
•Loose denim shorts
•Skimming vest tops

thenightsky · 15/05/2023 15:02

@Rina66 Thank you... really helpful. I'm off in 4 weeks and I normally desperately overpack or under-pack. I don't know which is worse actually.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/05/2023 18:15

Thank you.

I bought the Hotter sandals (see other thread) and whilst I haven't yet tried them out outdoors, I'm hopeful they will prove comfortable. I've also got Havianas with a back and some Seasalt sandals, so footwear is sorted.

I've got two Zara very light cotton printed midis with sleeves for the days when we're out in towns. 2 M&S strapless sundresses. Shorts (black linen and blue denim), vest tops, 2 linen shirts and two very light cotton shirts.

So, I think I'm pretty much sorted. I've got a couple of other dresses for evenings too.

I ordered that New Look one and it looked like a nightie. Hideous.
