Hopefully going on a ‘hot’ holiday this summer and will need to pretty much start from scratch for a capsule wardrobe, as all I’ve got in my existing wardrobe are one very light cotton’wafting’ dress and a couple of well loved very soft cotton shirts.

I’m small and a bit round these days - size 14.

I like the look of Arket linen shorts and trousers, so will go and try those on.

I mainly like black and white in the summer. Any ideas for what I should be looking for? Arket prices are as high as I’m willing to go.

Just been to town and tried a million things on. Nearly everything is too thick or has long sleeves. I spent a small fortune on a tankini and bikini bottoms in Bravissimo. Bought the last remaining sarong in M&S. short sleeved linen shirt in Arket.

Pretty sure most of it must be designed by people who have never seen/been a middle aged woman.

Last remaining sarong in M & S @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie ???? This is why holiday shopping is such a pain, it's all in the shops far too early and then sells out - I've still got my heating on!

Yes, it's ridiculous. M&S (big store) had got hardly anything left.

Any thoughts on footwear, anyone? I've got Havianas for poolside and flat sandals for evening, but could do with something with more support for sightseeing.

I bought these last summer. They look fine with dresses or shorts.

I love my Dune Locations £90 below left, so comfortable, easy to slip on and off, they're a year old and still look like new but Sainsbury's do a very good dupe for £20, below right...

Know what you mean about not wanting anything heavy. This is why I used to like Boden dresses but though you could
often see through them in bright light, they’re now usually about £100 for something that gets worn for a month for a couple of years if I’m lucky.

Don’t like puff sleeves meself but this is 100% cotton and midi. Not black and white but for £25, it’s not bad at all.

I've seen that Sainsbury's one in real life. Too much fabric/too thick, sadly.

I've got trainers already. If I get sandals, they need to be proper bouncy comfortable things.

I've just these sandals by Blowfish Malibu from Schuh £49.99, are comfy and give plenty of arch support which I sadly need and fit me well.

These are the sandals I really wanted but couldn't afford, Birkenstocks big buckle in old rose £115 at Office!

ArianahX · 30/04/2023 20:48

I feel the ones I bought are smart enough to wear in the evenings, there are several colour variations available.

Rina66 · 30/04/2023 20:52

I've got these ones from M & S @ArianahX they're more taupe than rose though, £25.

It’s good that we are all different, what sort of style sandal are you after, and colour?

Have you looked on Brand Alley?

For sightseeing sandals I would look at Merrell Terran sandals. The straps are thin enough not to look like chunky walking sandals but really comfortable. I've walked miles in mine and, in a light colour, they look good with shorts and dresses.

JustToBeMe · 01/05/2023 07:04

Just came across this thread, hoeing to find some inspiration as I too am going on a hot holiday this year.
However polkaday has hit the nail on the head, I'm minimum wage, saved long and hard for this holiday, I can't afford many of the prices on here!!

JustToBeMe · 01/05/2023 07:08

FancyCurtains
Not everyone is facing financial hardship. The UK is full of people who are financially well off.

Good for them!!Hmm
However the op does say she's looking for a capsular wardrobe for about £300 !!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/05/2023 07:50

Sorry, Blip. They look like something a Stormtrooper might wear on the beach.

@JustToBeMe I think the supermarkets might be worth a look. I saw some nice sun hats in Sainsbury’s.

The tankini I bought In Bravissimo was £70 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) so I’m either going to have to stretch my budget or just wear the same dress every day!

Might just stick to trainers for trips. Or maybe some plain black Tevas?

OP posts:
MarbleParched · 01/05/2023 08:43

You didn’t answer my question of what style of sandal you are after but since you mention Tevas I’m not going to be much use as I think they look like fugly stormtrooper sandals!
in fact I think that’s a trait of all walking sandals so yes, perhaps trainers are the order of the day!

Rina66 · 01/05/2023 08:45

You are funny Remus 😂
Re the Tevas, ASOS sell them and they are doing 20% off almost everything today with code HOLIYAY - might even be worth a look at their dresses?
