Holiday clothes

Hopefully going on a ‘hot’ holiday this summer and will need to pretty much start from scratch for a capsule wardrobe, as all I’ve got in my existing wardrobe are one very light cotton’wafting’ dress and a couple of well loved very soft cotton shirts.

I’m small and a bit round these days - size 14.

I like the look of Arket linen shorts and trousers, so will go and try those on.

I mainly like black and white in the summer. Any ideas for what I should be looking for? Arket prices are as high as I’m willing to go.

I know this is not the right colour, and is out of stock from joules (may find one on eBay?) but I've got this to take in holiday this year, it is the lightest if materials and feels gorgeous to wear.

There is some great stuff on Very and Monsoon at the moment.

For swimwear top tip - buy an expensive brand off EBay - especially if you are large chested and need a Freya bikini or something. You can normally get last season's style brand new at half the price.

@SeatonCarew are you from Seaton?

No I'm not. 😊

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/04/2023 07:44

Thanks again everyone.

I don’t ‘do’ EBay, Vinted etc. Really can’t be bothered with the faff. I’m going to have a day soon in town where I try lots of things on. Need to be able to see them in the flesh to know if they’re even worth trying.

I’ve got M&S, Next, Cos, Arket, H&M, Zara, Mango as starting points.

I found M&S does some great comfy linen stuff and weird fish.

Ok 😊

I got great linen and linen blend from H&M last year, trousers with a nice stretchy waist, big comfy white oversized pop over type shirt (like the one Toast do but a tiny fraction of the price) and good, boxy cut t-shirts. They did lovely silk blend T shirts too which were very thin and light but look smart and wash well.

I prefer the linen blend as it looks slightly less rumpled than linen. Always find that's the problem with linen, you wear it once after buying it and it looks great then one you've washed it that's it, no matter how much you iron you will always look like you've not bothered. Or maybe I'm just domestically challenged.

Have a look at Hush too. If you use ebay, they have an official outlet on there now which has brilliant buys.

Bejazzled · 29/04/2023 13:15

Oops just seen you don’t😊

I ordered this dress after perusing the Jigsaw website 😂 and it's beautiful, the colour is very vibrant. I plan to wear it with turquoise jewellery.....

There's lots of Hush at the moment on the Tk Maxx website as well.

... who are you all with £99 to spend on ONE item of clothing? (esp when OP says she needs to buy a whole wardrobe). Genuinely curious given the amount of threads here about the cost of living crisis.

Bar some new gym gear, I have bought three new items of clothing this year in the sales, totalling £52 (have also sold stuff on vinted and bought bargain clothes on there with the proceeds).

I'd rather buy one thing I love costing £100 than 4 average things that aren't particularly well made. Tbh that would probably be all I'd buy for the next 6 months.

@Kangarude let us know what you think!

I was looking for a thin cotton shirt the other week. I've got this one, hoping it might be 'the one". But they have them in black.

This is nice.

I had a revelation about 5 years ago and decided that for a weeks holiday I’d take 3 bikinis and 3 Sun dresses and a pair flip flops for the day and 3 dresses for the evening and one (!] pair of flat sandals. Plus what I travelled in which could also be worn if needed. It was a flop around the pool/ beach holiday with no intention of doing anything else!

Prior to that I’d pack every summer item of clothing that I could fit into a suitcase and at least 4 pairs of sandals 😂

This year for a 2 week holiday I’m planning on the same amount of day wear but with a couple of shorts and t shirts and then 1 additional evening dress and 1 more pairs of flat sandals.

I can’t help with links or actual recommendations but packing light is (for me) a game changer and of course far less expensive!

MarbleParched · 30/04/2023 00:39

Edited to add that I’m recycling my entire suitcase of clothes from last year and the additional shorts and t shirts I already own, the additional dress is a beautiful maxi dress that I found last year when sorting out my mum’s things after she passed away suddenly, I’ve never seen her wear it which is a shame. The sandals are flat Dune Lakes gladiators that I bought in their sale last week.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/04/2023 08:45

I’m a big fan of packing light and re-wearing things.
I used to always take too much. Now, I plan really carefully and usually get it about right. That’s why black is good too!
